And 324x more expensive...
In all seriousness, Shark Reef was never meant to be a huge headliner, it was just a unique experience not found in any other water park. Sure other parks who specialize in this can do it better, but I never went to Typhoon expecting Discovery Cove, and I assume most did not.
Shark Reef closing won't devastate the park or cause attendance to decline, it's just a shame to once again lose a unique attraction for something new when we could have had both.
The current strategy is clearly to not add capacity or extra labor and maintenance costs, but to control attendance by raising prices. It may be working now but will eventually catch up to them with permanent damage done to the Disney name. I don't think a change at the top will even save it at this point.
The Dolphin swim is a solid value considering how much that experience costs elsewhere like when on a cruise and it's an excursion.I used to think this. But we are doing Discovey Cove for the first time this year. It was £99 for a SeaWorld three park ticket. Or £138 for Discovery Cove including admission to the other three SeaWorld parks and parking. Discovery Cove is all-inclusive so breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks are all included, so for £39 (approx $51) it seems worth the money!.
Although it would have been an extra ~£40 for the dolphin swim and that doesn't seem worth the cost.
I'm worried about this as well. The water parks were seemingly forgotten about in the eyes of Burbank, which sounds like a bad thing, but because of that seemed like they were able to escape most of the cuts the rest of the the resort has faced in recent years.
Between this and the cutback in operating hours this summer, I hope its not the beginning of a trend.
Note: I would also add that there were major cutbacks in transportation to/from the water parks which have had significant negative impact on guests. I don't know, however, if that is part of budgets at the parks themselves, or more likely coming out of each resort's budget.
Um, they are building a new family raft ride at Typhoon Lagoon, Miss Fortune Falls, so I wouldn't say they are totally neglected. Quite frankly, while Shark Reef was an interesting experience (did it twice), it had its drawbacks: crowded early, not the largest capacity/turnover, the water was freezing, and you kind of had to move quickly so it wasn't like you had time to linger and enjoy the sights.
Besides being hurried through, I'd add that Shark Reef is even less enjoyable when they issue you a leaky snorkel.
If I had to guess. Blizzard Beach will be getting a Frozen treatment at some point in the future. With the new waterpark opening up the street, it may push Disney to making some meaningful improvements to the existing parks...Miss Fortune Falls is a great start!! But Blizzard Beach really needs some new stuff...Without the large wave pool and the Crush N Gusher...now Miss Fortune Falls it feels sorely lacking...
I believe they are part of a special dining package at the Coral Reef Restaurant in Epcot.Anyone know where the fish and sharks are being sent? The Seas?

They should rename it The Leaky Snorkel and turn it into a swim-up bar.Besides being hurried through, I'd add that Shark Reef is even less enjoyable when they issue you a leaky snorkel.
Swim Up Bar! Okay...now we're onto to something. Would almost make up for the loss. They should rename it The Leaky Snorkel and turn it into a swim-up bar.
I like where you're going with this...They should rename it The Leaky Snorkel and turn it into a swim-up bar.
That right there is a brilliant idea. They should rename it The Leaky Snorkel and turn it into a swim-up bar.
Strategic Planning was a specific group that included specific people. You making things up doesn't help criticism of Disney.
If this sounded interesting to you... Do discovery cove... It's about 323x better
And worth it. You get what u pay for... I only wish that applied at Disney
Please tell me you're being sarcastic.Agreed. I say they clean house. I feel as though my biggest fear could indeed come true if they don't: Bob Chapek becomes CEO.
Wow sorry to hear that! That sure is some bad luck!
I have been thinking this for a while. I fear that they will re-theme the whole park as a Frozen park, as crazy as that sounds.
