I have seen mention of Cartoon Corners several times but I really don't know much about what it was to have been aside from generalities. Out of curiosity, what was the premise and where was it to have gone in Fantasyland?
It's unclear, since it never made it past the concept phase. I was told it would have been better than Mermaid, high-tech, and involve Mickey.
The location was to have been Toontown, I believe.

Do you have any idea when this is happening?

The info I have puts the opening of the Princess M&G in the 4th quarter of fiscal 2012. (July-Sept.) How long before then they will need to close SWSA...

They are just gutting it and renovating for the princesses, if I'm told correctly. A new ride would eventually take its place.

Did I hear correctly that the ride system would remain and a floor would be built over it?
That idea might be pretty dead. The whole reasoning behind the preservation of the ride system was the idea/hope that, in the future, the Princesses would be getting a custom built structure on the site of the long abandoned Skyway station. With the recent discovery of plans, within permits, showing new restrooms and walkways in this area, it would be highly unlikely of anything else moving into that space any time soon.

Isn't there a space somewhere, perhaps the in the castle, where the princesses could find a new home that would be a bit more appropriate and would leave the space open to a ride, like maybe Pinnoccio or Alice?

And what is going to happen with that little boy with autism that loves SWSA so much? I hear he has ridden it over a thousand times in the past couple years.

He should be the last person to ride it and 1st to ride the new ride.

This may sound mean, but he really should not matter. So sort of gesture would be nice and probably get the company a little good publicity, but it really should not be a part of the decision making process.

I think he's ridden well over two thousand times now!?!

I would be nice if he could be one of the last people on the ride before it closes... however there is no new ride for him to ride first (unless he wants to be first in line to see the Princesses).

I would be cool if they could give him a piece of the ride (especially if it's all going to be scrapped).

Maybe give him a little video of the ride-through and some little prop? I think it'd be nice because it means so much to him and his family. Apparently it has really helped him.

And I agree that he shouldn't come into play when it comes down the the decision to close or not to close. I just thought it'd be nice to do a little something for him before it closes since he loved it so much.

Now, I take anything I read on Screamscape.com with a giant boulder of salt, but sometimes he gets stuff right or has an interesting rumor or two. That said, Screamscape has an update on the Mine Coaster this week, and make sure you are sitting down...

"(3/23/11) Despite the concept artwork released to date, Screamscape has heard it said before, and once again now, that the Seven Dwarves coaster will mostly be an outdoor ride. I’ve also heard that it may not be ready to open until 2014 right now, though these kind of things are subject to change." http://screamscape.com/html/wdw_-_magic_kingdom.htm

Mostly and outdoor ride??? That's the first I've heard of this concept. If anything, I thought it was mostly an indoor ride with animatronic show scenes and just a few bursts of track outside. :veryconfu

Lee has already mentioned the 2014 opening date, which is a long three year wait. But does anyone know if this is really a regular outdoor roller coaster, with maybe just an indoor loading area in the cottage? If so, that's a bit depressing, as it makes it sound like a rethemed version of Goofy's Barnstormer. I hope we get more solid info on this soon.

Hardly makes sense since it's a "mine train" coaster. From all of the concepts and drawings I've seen it's still mostly indoors. The more outdoor sections there are the more unlikely it will remain open in the Florida rain.

The layout I have ppears to indicate the ride being about 50/50.
Hard to tell, really.
But leave Barnstormer out if it. This is a totally different animal.

Hopefully they are cosidering a reimagining that brings a portion of the track literally below ground level. This would allow the "mountain" (show building) to house more stuff.

The artist concept of the mountain seemed less than magical to me and a poor use of space. Ultimately I'd like to see the Chateau as a forced perspective add without the m&g and the millhouse built as a standard m&g on the east side of the mountain as close to Pooh as possible. By adding the Aurora m&g it will help alleviate the wait times for the Mermaid m&g and also the Belle m&g.

Everyone goes home happy. :)

I think the Princesses will be relocated to the FLE from MSUSA eventually to be replaced by some or all of the fab 5. I am talking beyond the next temp location in the SWSA building.

Just my opinion of how it could go. This is one complicated process it appears.

BTMR is mostly outdoors. Not that that proves anything.

No kidding, it's very complicated. I can't think of another time that Disney has announced a big new project in a very public way like they did with FLE in September, 2009 at the D23 Expo, only to then redo and rethink a big chunk of that project a year later and replace it with other stuff and cancel other parts of the original plan outright.

I bet Tom Staggs had some really intense meetings making the big decisions to trashcan Pixie Hollow and replace the Princesses with the Dwarves. I'd love to be a fly on that conference room wall to see how that sort of thing plays out!

Actually, according to what I'm hearing, Staggs came in at the very end of that process.
The writing on the wall for those changes was there before Rasulo moved out.
