September question

I've almost convinced DH to go back to WDW next September, if the free dining plan is still offered in 2008. My only concern is that I've been told that the weather in Florida during that time of year is really bad. My father even advised me not to go in September, because of the risk for hurricanes... I can't believe it's that bad... I looked at different weather website and it didn't seem that bad...

What do you guys think? Have you even been in September? How was the weather?

whats this free dining thing you're speaking of?? fill me in??? and yeah i've been in September and October and the wheather is always nice and i mean Disney has only had to close once due to bad wheather, they always seem to get skipped over when it comes to that :) so i honestly don't think you have anything to worry about.

We've gone in September twice. Both times it rained some afternoon and it was really hot, but it was still a great time to go.

the weather isn't too bad, it usually rains in the mid-late afternoon but a poncho will do the trick. I would be more worried about dealing with all the foreign tour groups...they tend to be really loud and obnoxious

Usually, in April, Disney announces a free dining plan promotion if you book a vacation package between August 31 and September 30. For every night of your stay, you get a free counter service meal, a table service meal and a snack (basic dining plan). They offered it in 2007, and I really hope they offer it again in 2008...

It was hot, but it only rained (thunderstorms) 1 day.

We are going back next Sept. w/ free dining!

Most of the replies thus far seem to be from people from the southern US saying that the weather is not that bad.

I want to give you a little bit different perspective. I'm from Connecticut and while it does not get as cold as Montreal we have somewhat similar climates.

I have to say from my perspective and the heat and humidity that I am used to (I went this past September) I would not go back in September free dining or not.

I can deal with the rain showers in the afternoons, I can deal with the heat, I can even deal with the threat of a hurricane. The humidity however was just too much. I suppose if you come from an area where you are used to that it may not be so bad, but for me and my DW it got to be a little much.

Now I did hear that it was worse this year than it has been in the past and we still had a great time but I don't think I would choose that time of the year again. Although I might chance late September if the deals were really good.

If you want to get an idea of what it is like, turn the heat up in your house to about 85 F and then turn on the shower and get it really steamy in there, then walk around a lot. That might give you an idea.

I am sure some people on here will say that I am being overly dramatic and I would not ever want to discourage anyone from making good use of a good deal to go to WDW. I just want to give you another perspective. Good luck in your decision.

One thing I have learned with our Disney trips is that you can't plan for the weather. We just got back in September during hurricane season, and have been going then for the last 5 years. Not only did we not get a hurricane, but have never had more than a one hour thunderstorm. My Italian grandma used to say, "Don't bandage your head before you get a headache". Relax and enjoy!!

The weather in September is not so bad. It's much better than the summer. It's not as hot, and it rains a bit less. The storms tend to be a bit less frequent but longer in duration. It's not as dry as October, but not as humid as the summer.

It is hurricane season, though, but that's the risk you take. There will be a hurricane that passes through or nearby every 5-10 years, but not every year. And even if there is a hurricane, unless it is a direct hit and/or a very bad one, you stick it out and it passes very quickly and then the sun comes out.

I've been in September several times. I would characterize the typical weather as hot and humid with thunderstorms in the late afternoon about half the time. If you can't stand heat and humidity, wait until October -- there's a big difference. But if heat and humidity do not stop you from functioning, go and enjoy. Other than at DAK, there are plenty of things to do in climate-controlled areas, and Disney does a good job of making sure there are places to cool off all over the place. As for the thunderstorms, just duck into the nearest store, ride, exhibit, or covered porch, and wait it out for 20-30 minutes, and it'll usually pass.

On a positive note, September evenings/nights do get a bit cooler, and the heat makes Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon great places to go with few crowds on weekdays, because school is back in session.

Plus, with free dining, you eat free, if you can indeed can the ADR's you want (difficult, but not impossible).

While we are the topic of September...

How are the crowds?

My husband and I usually go in July or October. July was way too hot, but October was so crowded. We thought we'd give September a shot this year.

We were on our honeymoon 9/9 - 9/16. It was extremely hot - I HATE hot weather. And it rained every evening sometime between 4 & 7 or so. We were unfortunate enough to be at the rained out first MNSSHP. It rained allll night. It was awful. I wont be going in September again.

The crowds weren't too bad. I noticed that there were people *everywhere* but the ride lines were usually no more than 20 mins at most.

We just went this past September arriving the day after Labor day for 10 days. Everyone else has already deacribed the weather, which we thought was just fine.

The big plus besides the free dining is the light crowds. The longest line we waited in the whole time was one time at Soarin' for about 40 minutes and the only reason we did so was because we already had a fastpass for the ride and the kids, 6&7 at the time, wanted to ride it twice in a row. Otherwise, we walked onto almost every ride in all the parks the whole trip. If we ever did wait, the line was never more than 5 minutes.

We have also gone in early October in 2005, also during free Dining, and the lines were a little longer then. I strongly suggest September.

We have gone in September nearly every year since 2000 and it's not bad at all. It is hot, but it is not all that bad. We have managed to avoid the hurricanes as well. Maybe we have just been lucky but we intend to go every September since it is our wedding anniversary and so far, so good.

We just got back from our honeymoon in September and had a wonderful time!! We've gone in the winter (January), summer (July) in the past and this was our first fall trip. Yes, it was hot and humid some days but if you stay hydrated and take frequent breaks, you will be fine. We has a few rain showers, which lasted no more than a half hour (which again, as some posters have already mentioned, just bring a poncho!) The fact that we didn't have to wait more than 30 minutes for most attractions for the majority of our trip was worth going in September alone (if you can get free dining, if it's offered next year, that's even better!!) I would highly recommend it!

Have fun!!

We went this Sept and have been to disney for the past few or more Septembers. Let me start off by saying I hate HOT HUMID weather. I was also 7.5 months preggo during this trip. Now having said that this year orlando had a heat wave of 95 degrees and over for 45+ days when we arrived. And lucky us it got cooler on the day we went home:brick: Even though they offer the free dp I dont think its worth it. No one I know can eat all that food and still be able to function when the "real" feel is like 105 degrees. We went to pool to cool off and it felt like bath water!!!! We will NEVER go in September again. But we also dont mind paying for the DP cause its just easier for us. But after ranting you have to go and experience it for yourself.

Have fun in the sauna AKA Disney in the summer months:lol:

I live in FL, and went this last Sept as well, and I have to say that there is no over-dramatization to that post! September is one of the hottest months down here. I highly recommend waiting until October at the very earliest. November and March are my very favorite months to go because the weather is so temperate.

Sorry, but I usually go late Aug, and have no problem. Sep has started to cool. Yes, it's hot and humid, but not as bad as mid-summer. I lived in Fort Walton Beach for many years, so I'm biased, of course.

Of couse, Oct is much better, mainly because it's drier, but in Oct, when you have a rain, it could last for days. In Sep, it rains half the days hard for a while in the PM and that's it.

If you can go in Oct, it's the best. Things are cheaper and it's less crowded. But if you can only go in Sep, I say go for it!

I live in Orlando, about 20 miles from WDW. Yes, September is a crazy weather month. Will there be a hurricane or three? Maybe. Will there be a hurricane or three between June and November (hurricane season)? Maybe. It's unpredictable with the weather and hurricanes. We might get them, but we pray we don't. 2004 was a crazy year with three in a month, that was tiring as a news reporter back in the day!

The weather here in September is usually hot. It's normally in the mid 90's at the start of the month with humidity and the typical afternoon storms. By the end of the month, it starts to cool down to the low 90's and the humidity isn't that high, but storms are always possible.

If you come in towards the end of September, the crowds will be lighter and Food and Wine festival starts the last weekend of the month! The Halloween events at Disney and the other parks also kick in the last weekend of September as well.

So, bottom line, don't get scared of the hurricanes. If they come, you can cancel and get your money back now. If one does come while you're here, the Disney resorts are built to stand up to a cat 5 hurricane, so it's one of the safest places to be during a hardcore storm.
