September Myth or Fact

Ok I have heard that September is a great time to go to WDW b/c it is the slowest time of the year there. I have booked a trip for 22-25 with my wife as an anniversary trip. We are hoping to have a good time not having to swim through crowds to enjoy ourselves. I have noticed that everyone else on this forum seems to have booked trips in Sept also. So was I misled or are we all being smart by booking then?

I loved September

I agree with everyone - september is great when it comes to crowds. We went in 2009 & had a blast. The longest wait we saw was for Toy Story Mania (but when isn't it the longest wait!) When we took advantage of their EMH everything was a walk on. We also did MNSSHP - & boy was it worth it! We did so much in those few hours, collected a sick amount of candy, got our faces painted, saw fireworks & parades & managed to get on most rides during the last 2 hours of the party! The weather like most said is hot - during 2009 it was ridiculously humid & sticky - but the fact that the wait for so many rides was so short we were never in the heat for too long & having had Free Dining we did escape the heat for breakfast/dinner for a few hours. We are going this year for september again & cannot wait! Super excited. Enjoy your trip!!!!

The first rule about everyone who goes in September is not to talk about how great going in September really is. :lookaroun

The second rule about going in September is not to talk about how great going in September really is. :lookaroun

We enjoy going in September - it is still pretty hot, but the crowds in the parks are usually not that bad. Although during free dining, the restaurants can be pretty busy.

September is a great month. Most of the trips I went on were in August and September. The crowds are not to bad on Labor day based on the fact the crowds do down as the day goes on due to People travel back to where they are from because their kids have to attend school the next day.

Toy Story Mania is an exception to the rule of rides really doing down due to less crowds like another person mention.

We usually go in March however in 2009 we went in September to celebrate our 25th anniversary and it was fantastic. The crowds were low, yet the temps were very warm, just picture perfect! I highly recommend it. Have fun!

The weather usually cools down during the latter half of September. We went during the last week of September for my wife's birthday and I was comfortable the entire time in knit shirts and long jeans.

September is usually very nice and slow. If you time it right, you can be there for the first couple of days of the Food and Wine Festival, which is a great experience as adults.

the good ole days

Hate to beat a dead horse but.. My wife and I call our trips in September the "The good ole days". We used to go every September up until our first child was school age. Now that our child is in her third year of formal school and we cannot go in September- (Our school system will not accept a trip to Disney as excused under any circumstances)- We long for those days. Go and enjoy.

You were smart. We go every Sept, and it is never, ever busy. It's hot, but never busy. With free dining, it got a little busier, but not to a point where we had to wait long for anything. The most you wait for is stuff you always wait for like Soarin and Peter Pan. And those are only usually 40 minutes or so.

I used to go in Sept before free dining. Back in those days, we would walk on TOT and be the only people on the elevator. You know how cool that was???

We've been to WDW in October in 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009. We've also stayed there in mid-September in 2002 and 2010. Our experiences with Columbus day in 2001 (very manageable due to 9/11 being a few weeks before) and 2006 (what a nightmare!) could not heve been more different. Other October trips we have been able to stay in the last couple of weeks and it has been much better, although you still will have to contend with the Food & Wine Festival.

A lot of this is subjective, but we avoid the Food & Wine Fest and the crowds that go with it when we can. I love Epcot, but hate having to deal with the restricted room and crowds with a large stroller. We would consider ourselves a bit better than average for fitness and do a lot of treadmill time in prep for the trip so we were pretty ready for pushing it, but the humidity did a number on us. We're from Chicago, so we're familliar with hot weather.

The crowds were much lighter in September of last year (9/11-9/19), but it was noticeably hotter and more humid, to the point of being a problem. If you have a member of your party that is sensitive to high heat and humidity in combination, you may want to delay your trip a few weeks.

We retire to the room for the afternoon every day to shower & recharge...I would highly recommend that. Even so, we showered 3 times daily and looked like drowned rats all of the time anyway. The pictures of us at CRT even though we'd just left the room an hour prior were pretty bad.

Even though the difference in temperature may have only been between 2-3 degrees, the difference in humidity was noticeable.

October: more crowds, Columbus Day may/will be CROWDED, weather will be a bit cooler and less humid.

September: less crowds, no Food & Wine Fest, hotter and more humid.

I hope this helps!

Septemebr is still very hot in Florida. It doesnt start to calm down until well into October. Then it can still be bad all the weigh through November. With Florida there is no set tempetaure except Hot and not as hot.

I'll tell you one thing I found out yesterday, I should have started dining reservations way earlier. Only able to get a 9:30 table at Ohana's, which is a must do for my wife and I. I booked Trail's End b/c I heard it was good and I've never been there and we also booked Tony's @ MK b/c my wife loves pasta.

Anyone know when they release AP discounts for Sept?

sept

I went for my honeymoon in Sept 2007. It was wonderful. Went during free dining. Walked on every ride but peter pan 20min wait. Make reservations at the restuarants and you'll enjoy yourself very much. I suggest wolf gang puck in downtown disney- awesome.

Best time to go, IMHO. We always go then, mostly for the MNSSHP, it is our favorite event. The crowds are ok, a lot of locals last year, and a lot of local kids in the hotel (last year locals got a discount that they found to be a good deal, apparently) pools and arcades etc...but the parks did not seem to have long waits. We found that we could do whatever we wanted, no long lines and wait times. I love September in WDW!

Pretty sure we are going to go September 3 or 4-September10. Labor day is the 5th, and I am wondering how crowded labor day is, or are most people traveling back home for the start of school? I don't mind spending arrival day at the pool but would like to start park visits on labor day.

We have always gone at Christmas or in the summer, and once we went before Easter, and the parks are always crowded like crazy. I can deal with the heat, but i am looking forward to a park that isn't insanely crowded.

Reservations are usually made last minute and we have always been lucky in that regard. As my daughter is now older (24), we no longer go 3 or 4 times a year or have AP's and have not been since a spur of the moment trip March 2009 so I am getting very excited that this looks like we really will be going in September.

My thouhgts on september are low crowds, except for the sit down resturaunts. Hot, but like an earlier poster said, fla is just hot and hotter, so no way to avoid it. Last week of September, actually driving all night to get in on Saturday instead of Sunday to check in on the last day of free dining. Then saving most of the snack credits to use on Friday (sept 30th) for food and wine... who could pass up on eating around the world during food and wine for free. (gonna get the value out of my snack credits and dining plan even if it kills me)

I actually am staying a value resort because I don't want to deal with the sit downs for meals. Could this be a marketing mistake for disney? I would have stayed at a moderate. They should give you the option to downgrade your dining plan during free dining (even if there was no savings advantage, the regular plan just is not anything I want)

My question is LOVE BUGS? I have heard that they are out and in force in May and September. We last went the first week of May and it was pretty heavy with them... having little kids who might freak out at the bugs (yes, they are harmless) are they out in September, is it as heavy as May and is is usually early or late in the month?

We went the week of Labor Day in 2009 and the crowds were great. Schools are generally back in by then and most people aren't going to keep their kids out of school since they just started back. With that being said, we are going again this year at that time and we ARE going to keep our boys out of school! Simply because it is a great time and this is probably the last time we will be able to go for a while:mad:.
