Walt Disney World is a big place, but if you look around carefully, you may see a lack of uniformed personnel. So where are the guards?
Or are the rumors true that's there's a secret Disney task force monitoring WDW undercover from within the parks, cleverly named the DIA.
There may be security in the park, but the entrance is a joke. I have seen so many people walk right through without their bags getting searched. My husband doesn't usually carry anything, but he was carrying a bag for me the last time and simply walked through without thinking. No one stopped him. It's especially true when it is very crowded at MK when the ferry, monorail and buses happen to get there at the same time, and at Epcot when the tram and monorail get there at the same time. Also, they never check those big camp pants type pockets.
I was able to carry a camera and wallet in those pockets. No one asked to check my pockets. How easy would it be to carry something dangerous in those pockets. I've thought about this before, but it hasn't stopped me from going and having a great time.
But on the other hand, I've seen them make women take off their bags to be searched when they were fully accessible. This happened many times when hurricane Debby was their. Women had their bags under their ponchos to keep them dry. They would pull up the poncho and put the bag, still over their head, onto the table, but a couple of the guys made them take off the poncho and put the bag on the table. Seriously, the bags were fully open and could be moved and probed with no problem. Other checkers had no problem with the ladies leaving their bags over their heads as long as they could see in them. It was the luck of the draw.
I've also seen the guard flirting with a lady and telling her to go on through. He didn't even look in her bag. She just smiled and said thanks, and she and her friends thought it was funny she didn't get checked.
So, just how safe are we. I assume, like most of us, that people are here for good reasons, and we ignore these kinds of things. And, how safe are we anywhere? We can't let these kinds of things stop us from having fun, but we do need to be deligent. If you see anything suspicious, you need to report it.
