OK - this goes back to about 8 or 9 years ago, but the saga continues.
Hallmark decided to declare Grandparents Day for some Sunday in September - strictly a Hallmark holiday. So a couple of years after my SIL passed away, her mother decided to have my brother's kids send a card to my mom for Grandparents day. OF course, I didn't, nor did any of my other siblings. Soooo the next time I talked to my mom I got a lecture about that (at the time I had never even heard of it!). So, the next year, my kids sent a card to my mom, to which she replied "Whoever heard of Grandparents Day?"

Fast forward to 2007. My grown kids haven't sent a card now for 5 or 6 years at least. I call my mom this afternoon and the first words out of her mouth are - "You know I have 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and not one of them evensent a card for Grandparents day?!!!" :brick::brick::brick:

The thing is too, I'm the only one of the 7 of us who calls her on a regular basis (except for my brother who only lives a mile or 2 away), but I'm the one she complains to the most. :brick:

Oh, the stories my mom could tell you related to that...

My grandma, the one with the Alzheimer's, is now in a nursing home (she was in a "retirement community" before). Just this week, the story played out like it always has: She's always very nice to Mom, until my uncle walks in the room. Then she's basically scum. :(

On a sidenote, she's actually doing quite well there. There's different therapy sessions/rooms there for co-ordination, memory, etc. As a result, I think, she was very "with it" when we visited her yesterday.

I am glad she is doing well then. It sounds like she is in a place that can take care of her.

There's a lot they can do with Alzheimer's now apparently, but it's still hard to watch a person's mind deteriorate like that.
((Hugs)) for you and your mom Dan!

I don't know what it is like to have someone with Alzheimer's. It sounds sooo empty of a life.
