Thoughts/Opinions on the Sci Fi restaurant in the Studios? Thinking about going there because the atmosphere looks cool but I wanted to see how the food was? Fiance and I will be using the Dining plan so no worries on price. We went to the Brown Derby in Sept. '07 and wanted to do something different this time.

Also, we will be at the Studios in Oct. when it closes at 7pm so Fantasmic should be at 7 or 7:30. Is it worth squeezing in an early dinner at the Sci Fi or just grab something over at the Boardwalk after Fantasmic? Staying at Beach Club.

I think most of the answers you get here will say to go for lunch, get a burger and shake, and enjoy the film loop. It's really fun, but the food isn't spectacular.

I always enjoy the atmosphere. Meals are not like the higher end sit down restaurants, but it is good. The dinner menu is a bit different from lunch, but if you study the lunch menu and want something from it, they will most likely serve it. Free dining plan is about trying some different places, right?

I won't say stay away, but I won't say its a must see either. For a sit down, I would say maybe think about doing it for lunch. I would defiantly tell you to by pass this in favor of something at Boardwalk.

But if you do go, I love their vanilla coke.....I sometimes go just for that....and their shakes are really good too.

The food isn't that great at all, but I'd definately do it at least once to experience it. It was kind of cool to sit in the cars.

The food there is "meh," the atmosphere is great. If you want great atmosphere AND great food, go to the 50's Prime-Time Cafe.

I love 50's Prime Time as well, but don't you think service has really gone downhill there. The last three experiences have been with servers who just don't play the role well...or even try. I was amazed that our server last year started off by apologizing saying he really didn't do that "stuff". You feel particularly "cheated" when a great server is nearby....

we're trying sci-fi this year because my son would think it was really cool to sit in cars and eat! i mean, it's free....so i want to try different stuff than we do every other year!!

When I was younger I loved going to the sci-fi, because I loved the environment. Now, I go and not a thing has changed. I always hope the drive in skits will be different, or that a few new ones will be added but it's always the same.

That said, the environment is a lot of fun if you have never been there. The cars are neat to sit & eat in, the CM's have always been great. I always thought the food was just okay - average IMO. But still, if you've never been there, I would recommend going.

Thanks to everyone for responding. I think after hearing your opinions plus the fact that we'd like to try and make Fantasmic at 7ish, lunch is the way to go this time. Nothing wrong with a burger and shake. We will be at DAK in the morning then DS for the afternoon/evening so it should work out. Then if we're still hungry after we'll hit something up at the Boardwalk.

Do you need to make advanced reservations for the Sci Fi restaurant if you are eating lunch? 1 week until I can make reservations!

Yes, you need a reservation any time you want to eat there....and I would suggest for any sit down that you have particular interest in visiting.

The theme and atmosphere is great, but the food is ok and not many choices.

It's a good experience, but like a previous poster said, go for lunch.

I've done it twice, but I think twice is enough for me.

Heading for the great escape.
I love it, its a burger and ribs type of place, well themed and nice n cool for summer months.

Definitely think the negatives are perpetuated by pre conceived opinions and biased guide books.

The food is that whole "diner and dive" kind of food, which I happen to love :ROFLOL: :o Everybody can keep their steaks and fish :hurl: Give me the reuben from Sci Fi any day! :slurp:

Love it there. :)

I'm confused

Hi - I'm confused a bit about this restaurant. Some of the posts say to go for lunch and grab a burger and shake...but when I go to the menus section, there's no burger listed...just regular sounding dinners. Help me out here please. :brick:
