I don’t understand the “where is my 5th gate? We need to compete with epic universe” crowd. People act like Disney has not gives us NFL, Star Wars Land, Toy Story land, Tron, Ratatouille, Guardians, reimagined Disney Springs, and countless other shows and attractions over the years. Do they need to constantly build new things to keep people happy? Not everything DIS has done is a home run, and I look forward to new stuff too, but the fact that people constantly need new new new or they are not entertained is what is wrong with our short-sighted instant gratification culture. Our brains have become hardwired to new experiences and we get bored so quickly. Can’t we enjoy Tron, Ratatouille, and Guardians for a bit before we declare we are need something new? It’s like a little kid who gets a new toy and is bored with it in minutes.

Up until recently, I think it has been more about the crowds/capacity issues, combined with how a lot of the new stuff doesn't fit in with the particular parks according to people. And pricing is still a headache for many. I think all reasonable concerns BTW. How that fits into this particular thing, however... 🤷‍♂️

All four parks at Walt Disney World seriously lack capacity and that’s using metrics first developed over half a century ago. But yes, for the size of the parks there should be constant development in order to maintain the right mix of different experiences.

This exactly...
Don't forget they have been shuttering attractions along the way too... they closed so many things in DHS they were down to 5 rides at one point...If they had not allowed the parks to languish for so long, people would not be so focused on add add add...but the problem is the crowds are huge, the prices are extremely high, and they have not built enough over the years for the size of the crowds.... So they are in a "catch-up" mode...or should be. EPCOT is still down attractions from it's mid-90s roster...

My take on this -
It’s a fine little addition and partnership. Silly, sure, but lots of things at Disney are.

The problem is…. Disney made this an announcement and even released concept art for it. That’s what is laughable. If they built it and said “oh look here a fun little addition” great. But announcing it like an attraction has everyone either laughing or rolling their eyes.

I mean, they just put out one promotional thing about it and it is for a relationship/corporate deal that has been in place for 2 years

I do think Disney tends to overhype things, but this didn't seem that over the top to just announce something new that is coming (now if we get weekly updates and reports on the travel and research done for it, then that would be a bit much)

How did they announce it?

It’s also just such a bizarre concept. How do you get together a creative/marketing team and come up with “smells of the circus”? It’s not really something people today know or romanticize (because they probably stunk). People don’t love seeing the elephants on Kilimanjaro Safaris because of the olfactory experience.

Capacity issues? They use these evening themes (Halloween from July to Nov, Christmas from Nov-Jan) as a means to have 2 groups of people in the park with a 3 hr overlap. Kick the regular people out at 7pm, without a reduction in ticket price.
The capacity issues/ticket prices will only get addressed when families stop going, which will never happen as Disney is like a religious sanctuary for some.
This current promo is a business venture that, as a paying customer, you agree to. You are in Disney’s parks and are subject to their ways of doing business.

they tend to do that with so much now, it just looks desperate. Its their way of showing of something new that really isn't and or worth anyone's while or time,,I can't see this lasting too long?

This announcement is getting slaughtered on Twitter

This isn't to you personally. 😄

Everything gets slaughtered on Twitter. If people really form an opinion based on what people say on Twitter....

Disney could announce a fifth gate and get slaughtered on Twitter.

Not just Disney, but the group think that's happening to humanity is sad. We have become a hive mind.
