Say.... What if Avatarland got cancelled?

IF that is the case, then that would be a major step in the WRONG direction... That boutique park was a disaster of an idea... The only way to make up for cancelling Avatar in DAK would be Mysterious Island...

Would someone be able to give me a brief explanation of this boutique park idea. It's the first I've heard of it.

Don't you think that's a little short sighted? You're saying Mysterious Island is the only way to make up for it because you know what Mysterious Island is. As fans we fear the unknown, it's entirely conceivable that something original could be a superior product than Mysterious Island.

As for the boutique park - the original rumored concept was an animal based park called Night Kingdom. Jim Hill outlined an early concept:

Thank you for perfectly summarizing my continued theory as to the hatred for the Avatar themed land... Avatar killed everyone's favorite mythical project for DAK.

Short sighted, no.... Read Jimmy-boy's article... IF they went ahead with the same plans as before, the ones Jimmy-boy wrote (which I know was semi backed up by some here), then it is as short sighted as you can get...

How is doing an expansion that would be open to only select guests willing to cough up $300 per person, and limiting the number of people not short sighted when they can open a land as part of an expansion that would be for everyone??? People are always ing and moaning around here about higher prices, Disney's class system, the possibility of paying for xPass, but a boutique park where only a handful of guests can experience with a huge price tag is a better replacement for Avatar (if Avatar does get cancelled) over Mysterious Island??? They could add Australia or North America for all I care.... A South American rainforest section is even acceptable to me... They would be just fine replacements if Avatar is kaput... The boutique park, no so much....

I've said that before... The hate for Avatar coming to DAK isn't because they didn't like the movie... The hate is because their fanboy dreams of Mysterious Island or Beastly Kingdom would then be dead...

Those dreams (especially those for Beastly Kingdom) have been dead for a LONG time. Beastly died long before Avatar even came out in theaters.

And yet, reading posts, there are those who think the only thing Disney should do is Beastly Kingdom, how Beastly Kingdom is the right move over Avatar... No matter how many times people have to be told Beastly Kingdom is dead, they insist on Beastly Kingdom as any Avatar replacement... So, yea, in my opinion, this is the crux of the Avatar hate...

Do you want Beastly Kingdom instead of Avatar?

Really doesn't matter what I prefer because my preference was not the point... Beastly Kingdom has been dead for years... Some people cannot get past that... And that is what is driving their hate for Avatar, in my opinion (no, I am not saying that is fact)...

I have no side in this fight... I have stated why I think Avatar fits in DAK... I have voiced my opinion why it would be a welcome addition... If the land is built, great I'll enjoy it providing they don't screw things up... If the land isn't built, great... I'll still enjoy DAK.. If hey cancel Avatar and replace it with something else, great, just as long as they do a good job with it... I'll enjoy it... If they replace it with that dumb (let me clarify IN MY OPINION IT SOUNDS DUMB) boutique park, so be it... I won't visit it, but I'll still enjoy DAK...

So, my preference is any expansion to DAK that is up to Disney standards, is enjoyable, adds to the guest experience in DAK, and brings DAK up to the level of Epcot and Magic Kingdom... (I think it far surpasses DHS by a long shot already)...

Clearly you missed the posts in which people said they would prefer nothing at all over Avatar. No one views Avatar Land as the final nail in the coffin for Beastly Kingdom. That concept was dead long before the Avatar deal. And nobody has ever posted here saying that Beastly Kingdom is the only thing Disney should do for the next DAK expansion. Stop putting words in people's mouths.

People who prefer a mound of dirt, those responses gets shunned... A mound of dirt over an expansion in a park that needs is... Yea, I laugh at those responses.. So, they are ignored and not taken seriously by me... But thanks anyway...

Didn't think you were attacking, didn't mean to come off as if I thought you were, sorry if it did...

And here is the info from Jim Hill regarding that boutique park that was talked about before:

My, my, how quick you are to resort to the old appeal to ridicule...

People don't want just any expansion for the sake of expansion. Most people on here who don't want Avatar think it will not be enjoyable and will not add to the guest experience.

You were right.. and I rephrased my response... The responses get shunned... :)

And people who don't want Avatar because they think it will not be fun have nothing to base it on... No concept art, no information.. nothing.. Simply basing off of dead fanboy dreams... Other than that, there is no reason to hate the idea... No one faults you or others for not liking the movie... Goes the same way for those who think the land is already awesome... How can someone tell when there is no information about what is coming????

As others have said, wait and see... See what comes, then form your opinion... And right now, we are all in a wait and see...

People are basing their opinions off of the movie, the thought being that there is nothing related to Avatar that would really be any good. Fanboy dreams (i.e. Beastly Kingdom) don't really have anything to do with it.

Doubt that. Bias creeps into everything. It is inevitable.

I understand the arguments for an against. Been stated by both sides ad nauseum here.

AK has needed an expansion since opening. Everyone ha their preconceived notions on what is a "fit" based on concepts we have heard, concepts for the park itself, the message of the park, or our own fantasies.

To say it has *no* bearing is not being entirely truthful.

Story does not translate to ride... The visuals were stunning... Pandora was magnificent... No one, not even a person who didn't like the movie can deny this... This is what Disney has the opportunity to create... Not the mercenaries storyline... Not the blue alien lovefests... Not the war between human and alien... That is what you all are focusing on, which is the wrong area to direct your focus...

The smart move for an attraction would be to bring us to Pandora, we can be in one of those military transports (which are now being used for tours and NOT war), or a new vehicle can be created (like in Star Tours) which brings human visitors on a sight seeing expedition of Pandora, or maybe we can be flying on one of those dragon creatures... And during these expeditions, we'll get views of the animal life on Pandora... The land can conservation theme already present in DAK...

There is enough source material in the first Avatar movie to not include the mercenary storyline... And hey, Avatar 2 is rumored to take place in the oceans, right??? So who knows what kind of under sea adventure we can be taken on...

Not liking the movie is one thing, and we can all accept and respect those opinions... But to hate an expansion, to say (not you personally Goof) you'd celebrate if the project dies, to say you'd rather a mound of dirt without knowing what exactly is, or would be planned for the land is silly... IF they go through with the land, and you don't like the plans, then complain all you want... At least you'll have something to back yourself up with... Right now, there is nothing to back your claim up of "the land will be boring"... it really comes off as hating for the sake of hating...
