Say goodbye to ALL the clubs at PI.

I doubt very much so that Disney would lose their liquor license. They have very strict policies and procedures in place to prevent underage drinking.

true, every single vendor has their own liqueur license. and not just every club, every single vendor.
just as each has their own name on the credit card readers (for example, "Liberty Square" market and "Haunted Mansion Ice Cream Cart" are two wholly separate locations, just right next to each other.)

Each individual stand/cart/restaurant, if it sells alcohol, has its own license. And the cast has to pass a variety of tests in order to serve alcohol as well. (my sister works in foods, i'm in operations)

The Disney parks are founded on the principle of being for families. You can hear Walt himself talking about how the idea of Disneyland was created out of the desire for him to do something as a family with his daughters. That is why everything about Disney is for families.

i TOTALLY agree with disney being founded on the family principle! but, walt also knew a lot about being creative and unique- if anything defined him, those two words would be on that list. i could talk about walt and his ideals for a very long time as well as many others here.

but let's talk about "that is why everything about Disney is for families". two words in disney land: club 33. please explain the family concept there? that was walt's version of a disney country club. he knew you had to play to some popular niches as well. not to mention make $.

pi is creative and unique. it's a shame to move backwards after a few previous poor decisions..... one step back, two more backwards....

and one more thing to mention: i had previously had no desire to ever go to universal. but city walk sound like such fun....

i'm disney through and through, but this sounds like disassociation with the adult party crowd. i can only hope that that replacement of pi is as creative as the original. hopefully not just the same bland cooperate, name, sponsor, blah......

i don't go to disney to experience mcdonalds, rain forest, dave & busters, ect.... i want unique disney creativity! not sell outs....... that definately wasn't walt's vision.

I'm showing my age here, but my opinion is: "It's better to burn out, then fade away!":ROFLOL:

I will miss the PI of yesteryear, but look forward to what 's in store...because we don't know what ALL is planned .

I'm definitely looking forward to what is next after PI :)

If they have to bring something back, I wish they would bring back the West End Stage and the nightly New Years Eve celebration.

Shopping and dining and a hot air baloon (funnily enough, this new "bold vision" is just hot air.) If you think about it, PI was the last "Disney" thing left at DTD. Now, it'll just be like any shopping or dining area in a large city that is poorly laid out.

Making that correlation would make some people's heads explode.

To say that something like the AC is only for adults is rediculous. I have brought my teenage siblings and cousins into the AC many times, and without drinking, they had a great time. Mind you they were 16+ years of age, so they got most of the jokes. There is no reason Disney can't leave the AC open and charge a nominal cover. Just no reason.

If you're interested in what's to come, the City of Irvine, CA has your answer.

Surely they could find room for the Adventurers Club in all of that.

PI doesn't fit into PI? It fit perfectly, there was a theme and everything...

You mean a gated, adult area where you could club hop and have as much fun as you wanted all the whilst not having to worry about those under the age of 21? Perish the concept, no way that would last 20 years.....

You just explained yourself why, just as many people have unintentionally done throughout the thread.

AC was a bar, plain and simple. When people come to a bar and buy soft drinks and not liquor, the bar does not do well. When I read "I loved it so much there Disney is ruined...oh, but yeah, I've only ever ordered like one drink there" it's just one of those /facepalm moments LOL.

So all the kiddos and people who went who did not drink are exactly the reason why it is being closed like all the rest. You can't make money at a bar if people don't go there to drink.

I bought my fair share of Alcohol there :D

I enjoyed drinking there and socializing and ... uh... socializing. :goodnevil

What annoyed me was the abundance of children and underaged people in an alcohol environment. I remember doing tequila shots with a very nice girl whom i was trying to get to know and turned around and saw a young child and it totally killed it.

This is one of the reasons why I do NOT want the AC moved to a theme park. I don't like the idea of 5 year olds running around, screaming and turning a cool place into a G-rated day care center. If it were to go to a park the could at least put an age limit, like 13+ on it so that people could actually enjoy it.

Ah, but I did drink, as did most of my group. Believe me at the prices they charged they made money off our group as a whole. The underage people I bought with me more often or not got fruity NA drinks. Most of these "underage" patrons were 18-20, with a few 16-17 year olds sprinkled in.

However, I think that thinking of the AC as simply a bar is short-sighted. Sure it was a bar, but it was also fabulous entertainment. Entertainment that is worth paying to see regardless of the alcohol that can be consumed there.

It is sad to see it go. At first it was a great place to go and have a good time. I think they gave up on it a few years ago. With them letting under age kids there was there big mistake. Being in a club and seeing kids running around does make it fell a little weird. Plus then you have under kids from the local area trying to get in and drink. Maybe they should make a few new clubs and make them all 21 and up. I know Disney a family place, but a lot of older single people like to go to Disney . It would be nice to have an adult place to go on site to hangout and get to know people. Maybe someday they do something like that again. I had some really fun times there I am glad i was able to do it.

I think you are missing the point. It *is* just a bar to Disney.

The fans have built it up into this ethereal experience, which is great, but financially...it is just a bar.

When such a large portion of people went for the side show and not the main attraction, so to speak (people went to see the Entertainment and not to drink, the main function of a bar), that's why I'm sure on paper the place wasn't terribly successful especially when you have to pay for the talent, etc.

On many Disney boards, including this one, you see people saying over and over "It was so great I can't believe they are closing it...but no, I never really drank there I just went for the Entertainment", which is exactly why it is closing along with the rest of the place.

If it were more than just a pet favorite for frequent visitors, or it made incredible money, you can be assured that they would keep it even if they got rid of the other clubs. But a place best known for a place for CM's to hook up on Thursday nights and a place that has a niche following in the Disney community but really wasn't terribly well-known out of those circles isn't some place Disney is going to see much reason to "save".
