Say goodbye to ALL the clubs at PI.

Why can't they keep things people like? I know pleanty of californians who LOVE adventures club and wish they had it at DL....

I'm a Californian. I go to Disneyland 2-3 days a week it seems. I wish we had someone as unique as the Adventurers Club at Disneyland. To be honest, it was the only real reason I went to Disney World. Magic Kingdom is such a horrible park compared to other Magic Kingdom type parks. My last trip to Disney World, I was there for over a week, I went to the parks on two days, but I was at the Adventurers Club every night.

I was shocked when I heard the news, I thought my friend was lying. I thought they would at least save the Adventurers Club.

I was going to be in Florida for one day at the beginning of September, I have now extended it to three days to spend more time at the Adv Club.

I have also just booked plane ticket from CA to be there for the final night.

I am sooo sad, I haven't been there for about 8 years and was looking forward to going to PI, we used to g for the New Year Celebrations - I can't believe it is gone. Does anyone know how long it will take to be refurbished and will they close it all down or refurb it bit by bit? I am a bit of a loose end to think what we will do in the evenings:shrug:? It is a bit misleading to sell tickets giving you unlimited access to PI and it is closed - I understand it is subject to change, but come on, quite a major change, it affects peoples plans for the evenings. We have booked Port Orleans which give us the water taxi down to Downtown Disney so that we can have drinks and a good night, what will we do now??? Go to Universal Citywalk.............................:ROFLOL:

I never went into The Adventurers Club. What was the big appeal to that place?

We all know that Disney hires some very incredible talent. You ever walk down Main Street and meet the Mayor or his friends? You ever witness what seems to be an impromptu scene in the middle of the road by the “street-mosphere” folks at The Studios?

The Adventurers Club was filled with amazing impromptu dedicated characters/actors who had a great format with a great theme to perform in. If it appealed to you it was a utopia that you could go to escape from all the dancing and flash of the rest of PI. The cast stayed consistent over the years and the humor was geared to a very smart audience and the audience always had a strong appreciation for the unique environment that they were in. You either got it or it wasn’t for you.

It was like an intimate Murder Dinner Mystery Show with no dinner or murder and the characters were all bizarre, memorable, and lovable. If I remember correctly it is set as open house in the 1930's and they are having an “open house” to recruit new members/characters to join their “Boys Club”. The building was filled with a variety of themed rooms with that exceptional Disney attention to detail.

I am probably not doing the AC justice, but if you were in the mood to sit back, be entertained, and do a little pretending\bs-ing - you would fit in right at home.

Heading for the great escape.
Perhaps Disney has just relised its "family" image ist compatible with aldult focussed evening entertainment and that they cant match City Walks so have given up.

So farewell AC with your excellent entertainment and watery cocktails, hello Anytown chain stores food outlets. Still saves some money for Disney so bonuses all round.

Let me make a bold prediction for 1st Oct "Welcome to Disney special events latest venue for hire AC anytime you want"
AC was used for special events but as the paying public needed to access the place too at least some nights special events would have been restricted in it's use. Now they will be able to use it when they want as Disney is never one for letting any space go unused if they can rent it out. The redevelopment is going to take 2 years so don't expect to see them demolishing buildings the next day.

btw I have a few all club passes that haven't been used and have no details of expiring on 27th Sept on them. What do you think Disney will let me do with them?

Having purchased DVC last year I suspect we will probably sell this now, our main draw to Disney was the AC

PI was a great place we adults could enjoy the disney experience, and the Adventures Club was where I proposed to my wife, it is the best place on Earth it is unique and I will say for sure:

A piece of me will die along with the Adventures Club.

:(

Please tell me you are being a drama queen or joking or I will ______ myself  You bought DVC because of one small club? And now you will sell it? That's so insane I can't even compare it to anything in my rational world.

Yeah, more uninspired shopping and corporate restaurants.:sohappy::hammer:

Now come on, the rest of Downtown aint shabby at all. My very first morning in WDW in 98 was spent in the Marketplace area. It's a lot of shopping but I wouldnt call it souless. I always love looking at World of Disney before I start my trip and I adore the Christmas store and Goofy Candy Co. Even if you dont buy anything these shops are delightful. And as regards to food, well I agree some resturants are maybe a little tacky and dont really offer the same service that Disney does. But theres some gooduns there like Earl of Sandwich and Raligan Road too.

All in all I wouldnt count out the familyization of the PI area. I still dont think Disney will just make it more of the same, if it is more shopping, it'll be something different. But I'm wondering if it'll be more fine dining. Wouldnt be surprised if they retain a nightclub or something that requires a slightly stricter entry code than PI ever did though.

Though thanks to this news, on my trip next week I will be making a stop and Comedy Warehouse and Adventuers Club for sure. Just a shame I'm a year too young to drink XD

Well, it`s out in the open now.

The only reason I`ll have to go to DTD is to drop my bags off on the day we depart. So sad.

I haven't read all of the posts... There are so many of them!

We will all miss Adventure's Club. I had been in the club a few times and couldn't understand what was going on in there. We have one more trip before it closes. Maybe I'll try and figure out what all the crave is!

I myself will miss the Comedy Warehouse. The people that work there are so talented! When Pleasure Island first opened, improv comedy was something I had never heard of. We usually went to two shows while we were there!

BTW - If there are any un-official websites that explain what is going on at AC, I'd love to take a look at it!

Thanks!

The AC and Comedy Warehouse were a great entertainment stop for the night time. Last May, my wife and I took our PARENTS to PI and those two clubs. They both had a blast and laughed so hard at some of the performances. It was also a highlight of our trip when one of our friends was called up on stage at AC and asked to dance..... He hates public performances and will always shy away from the spotlight. So after what seemed like days to him... he was finally let go after doing a waddle dance. Needless to say he had the cast and guests laughing their heads off. Our friend made such an impression, that the cast asked us where he was when only a few of us returned to the club two nights later. You really had to be there. On one hand you felt sorry for his embarrassment, but at the same time it was laugh out loud hilarious.

That was one of the great highlights of our trip and I am really saddened / ticked off / bewildered / borderline angry to see this and the other clubs go.

I don't think the rest of DTD is shabby at all... but I'm not so crazy about putting in more stores a restaurants.... so DTD will now become a themed stripmall.

This announcement is seriously making me consider a special weekend trip in September. We were not planning on going back to WDW until January. Now I am a bit more miffed this announcement wasn't made at least a month earlier. Round-trip airfare was at least $100 cheaper per ticket back then, compared to today.

West Side is a little different and all I really go to there is Virgin which I heard will be leaving.

Could anyone expand on this?

I know Virgin Megastores have been tookover by Zavvi (they have all been rebranded to Zavvi over here). But i love Virgin Megastores at Westside, it can't go! lol

Back on topic.. i can see AC having the same following as Horizons by some people on this board .

I'm disappointed that I never got the chance to experience the Adventurers Club, but I am going to hold off any judgment on the closing of PI until I know what kinds of restaurants and shops will be replacing it. I have seen alot of people here saying that Downtown Disney will become a "themed strip mall," but I don't think you can really say that until you know for certain what will be replacing it. Personally, I think Raglan Road is a great concept and more places like that would not be bad. I expect to see more places like Raglan Road or House of Blues (which combine entertainment and food) rather than just run-of-the-mill restaurants.

For me, one of the appeals of WDW is the broad array of high quality entertainment offered. The options just got reduced. Very sad.
