Saving money tips

I really want to go back to Disney in the next year. My friend wants to come with me and it will be her first trip so we're both very excited and determined to go

If anyone has any tips for saving money I would be interested because with rising costs of flights and gas it will cost us more than ever before.

So, what do you do to save money for Disney?

1) Go off peak, flights are usually cheaper and room rates are the lowest.
2) Check with Kingdom Konsultants. For no cost they can get you the lowest price
3) Buy your tickets soon/now. With the price of fuel you're best to lock in.

I sell stuff on Ebay. This is not for everyone, however, when we got back from our last trip in Dec I decided that anything I earned from selling on Ebay would be put towards out next trip. Got enough to pay the trip off for three of us at POFQ and some extra spending $$$ as well.

Park at the hotels and walk (or take transportation) to the parks.
Reuse a mug from a previous trip.
Pool-hop.
Take old tickets to get more Fast Passes.

I don't spend any change! I have a huge coin bank that I save all of my change in leading up to my trip. It's amazing how fast the coins add up. For my last trip, I had over $800 in change that I cashed in!

I also have the Disney Visa Card and use the rewards points towards my trip. I only use the rewards points for my Disney vacations, so a years worth of points is enough for all of our sit down meals while in the World.

We like to hit the grocery store right before we go (publix is good) and stock up on snacks for the park and breakfast foods( i.e. Pop-Tarts, fruit, juice boxes etc.) so we don't have spend an arm and a leg for breakfast at our hotel and snacks in the parks.

I'm going to assume (hope) this is in jest. Especially since the last one isn't accurate. If a ticket was not scanned at the gates that day, it will not work in the fast pass machine.

I guess I should add a tip also. I often get the kids meals at counter service locations. The regular meals have huge portions and I found myself finishing it to not waste. The kids meals are cheaper and include a drink. If I don't order a kids meal, I often split a regular meal with my mom. The money I save can buy me a snack later.

Never thought of that one to be honest but good tip. I was actually once considering selling some of my Disney plush on e-bay...I have a lot from the 70's and early 80's that I kept mint but it's so hard to get rid of them

This would definately add up especially since I'm from Canada and our change includes a $1 and $2 coin. I'm often amazed at how I can only have change in my wallet and still have over $20 here!

As the old adage goes "Pay yourself first!" - everyweek put a reasonable amount from your paycheck into a savings or account of some sort. In a year you would be amazed at what that can add up to be! Even $20 a week can get you close to $1000 in a year, that could pay your resort stay!!

Ive started saving change to, i use bills to pay for everything and at the end of the week all my spare change goes into a jar (and those toonies and loonies add up), also every couple of weeks i buy some american money (the rate is really good not), and were looking for deals on airfare so we can lock in at a good rate, and finally i save all bottles and cans to get a refund for

I found some things, too on the thread that Yankspy recommended. A couple people said they turned their hobbies in to a money making venture. I sent an e-mail out to a few friends who always have enjoyed my Punk Knitwear (I'm a rock-n-roll knitting machine):fork: and they would definately pay me for my mohawk hats, alien scarves, skull armbands and anarchist sweaters so I'm going into business!

I figure the money from whatever I sell can go into the Disney fund. Maybe I can make a few Mickey things too, how do you think he would look with a mohawk? :lookaroun

The change thing is a great way to save money. We even took a trip to the beach once on saved change it paid for our stay.
Other things that we do is take anything extra like from a yard sale or even overtime work hours and stash it away. I also make cakes for people so all that money I put in our "Mickey Money" Fund.
My kids always save and recycle cans for extra spending money.
I am always surprised at how much we end up saving and when we are looking forward to the trip it keeps your mind on it and excited, or at least it does me!

So, what do you do to save money for Disney?

Good suggestions so far, but when you have very little money to start with you gotta really scrape up some new stuff. Here is what I have been doing:

1) Recycle. We recycle Aluminum cans (this only gets about $25 per 2-3 months) See what other items you can get money from in your area.
2) If I get any money for travel from work, which is just about $10 - $30 per month, I put it towards the fund.
3) I have been taking online surveys since the first of the year. See this thread if interested http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=280442

So far using these methods my family and I have saved up around $600 - $700 since January. (Still waiting for some checks to come in from surveys)

Good luck to you!
