Anybody know anything about Disney suddenly applying for copyrights for the AC characters? SPI Blog talking about it today.
This is just a guess but I would assume that it is Disney simply protecting what they view as their property so they can continue to milk the franchise dry via retro merchandise.

I have always thought the franchise could be exploited across many platforms. Seems as though it could be easily adapted to the theme parks as well. Perhaps the attraction in Hong Kong is just the beginning.

"Know"? No.

"Educated guess?" Can't help but notice they made this move after two AdvClub fans blew up the social media with their custom AdvClub vinylmations. Complete with advice to open up an "etsy" (?) store.

Further evidence, as was stated in another thread this week, that TWDC uses social media as a giant focus group--and is aware of everything that is said.

Here's what I don't get...

...they keep USING the Adv. Club characters at various Disney events. I saw DisneyFalcon's photos from the Fantasy Inagural-thingy and there they were - just BRING THEM BACK for the rest of us!!

If the moderators want to move this post.....so be it. But in a related subject matter. I was just on the HUB and under the guest tab I noticed that an Icon for PI was still present. After clicking on the Icon it gives you some info about a schedule of performers ect. My question is WHY? Yes this was an "updated" schedule. Ragalan ....Paradisio etc.

Isnt PI offically deceased? Are there not permits issued to disembowel the place? Why would they keep the name in place? I guess the rational is they have no other name for that area. Can someone tell me if the PI signage is still in place? Again WHY? Is it or isnt it dead? If it is, why not strip anything related to PI? Honestly, it has taken me a long time to get over the whole PI/Ad club fiasco. But this was like opening an old wound. Maybe this has been talked about before, if so my apoligies.

Not sure what you mean by the HUB. Do you have a link? Regardless, both Raglan Road and Paradiso are restaurants that offer limited types of evening entertainment.

All the Disney-run clubs on Pleasure Island are closed and have been for over 3 years. But the area itself is still called Pleasure Island and there are signs all over the place still calling it Pleasure Island. And it will remain that way until they figure out what they're going to do with the place.

The HUB is the Disney Co. employee portal/intranet. I've seen it before, and it is pretty cool (and very informational if you use it right), has pretty much any and all info you need as a guest/to give to a guest.

As to why they still call it PI, that's spot-on, for the time being.

Mike is correct, It is the Disney CM website where you access everything from your cast member benifits, vacation time, and everything associated with your employment. I have a family memeber who is a front line CM.

I have been following the PI/ad club situation closely. What I dont understand is why if the attraction is closed and deceased why would they use the name and icon on an official Disney website. I guess it is just another sign that Disney has no clue what they are doing with the area. If it was going to be anything but PI why not strip everything related to it? Leaveing the signage up at DTD is one thing. But I dont think it cost that much to edit a website.

when they closed the clubs, they were very adamant that "Pleasure Island is not closing, only the clubs are" because of other businesses that reside on PI, they didn't wasnt ppl thinking those were also closing. That's why they have left the name in use and didn't immediately get rid of all references.

As to what they are doing with it - there are plenty of threads on the subject, from kool aid drinkers insisting they still have a bold new vision, to insiders saying DTD will get a huge expansion and the redo of PI will be in conjunction with that.

I just feel like Disney could do so much nore with the club/restaurant/ attraction mixture. The Ac was awesome, but the concept could have been taken to a whole new level. Check this out:

Imagineers could learn a thing or two from these guys. I say reopen the AC with a restaurant and gift shop , then have these guys open a second location next store! Or just borrow some concepts from them......

There was a persistent rumor, heard from a couple CMs, that the initial plan was to drop the "Pleasure Island" name. However, the remaining tenants, particularly Raglan but also Fuego and Curl, had spent a lot of money marketing themselves as part of PI. The fear was dropping the name would have been a material change in the lease (my lawyer term, not theirs) giving them an out to leave...which I hear was very much on Raglan's mind. (Notice they cut hours from 2:00 am to 11:00 pm most nights--for a bar, that had to kill their profits.)

Plus, it costs money to change signs. TDO don't seem to like spending money when they can avoid it.
