You sooo wanna be an insider - and that makes me smile...and chuckle sometimes. No hate here :)

I don't claim or aspire to be anything.

Interesting thing is... If I was on here proclaiming insider knowledge that A/C was being resurrected you would be worshipping me and pinning my words on a bulletin board.

I have information that is true to me, you can love it, hate it, believe it, or disbelieve.. But you don't have to personally attack me... That's all I ask.

You seem new to this thread, so I'll do this one more time, off the top of my head...

New tourist-oriented retail ventures on West 192 since PI closed:
  • Applebees
  • Bahama Breeze
  • Alehouse
  • Buffalo Wild Wings
  • Wildfire Bar-B-Que
  • Super Target (that one may be within a month or two either way)
  • Flippers
  • Sweet Tomatoes
  • Joe's Crab Shack
  • Texas Road House
  • Logans Road House
  • Panera

as a side note to this.... I've eaten at most of the location at Rolling Oaks (by that target).. The only thing that bugs me is that there are too many 'steak houses' in such a small area.

Good food though, great for the local eaters (like me)

I don't see it as arrogance as much as it was management badly misreading the business climate. Four years ago we just started to enter this great recession. They chose about the worst moment they could to close their current businesses and to try to start a new retail venture. In this business climate it isn't going to happen. Should have read the stock market collapse and halted the initiative. The evidence was there.

Now they seem to be stuck with apparently no new vendors on the horizon and some difficulty to go backwards. Maybe they have some idea in mind but we'll have to get an announcement to know.

I guess it might not be arrogance in the litteral sense. But the arrogance lies in the fact that they thought that high end vendors would come knocking on thier door. Misjudgeing the market is being very kind, has uni seen the same economic downturn also ? Arogance is not admitting you made a mistake....no I dont for one minute think TDO is going to release a mia culpa....but could have reopen one or two clubs and it would have been the same thing. Until they had a clear plan......vedors signed......a project on paper ready to fly....then I could see them closeing the area. FOUR years ? and nothing? The chat about TDO not wanting to be in the club buisness is just as rediculus.....there are clubs/bars all over property. No they just didnt want to put the money into PI to reinvent it.....to drop clubs that were not doing well and add something new. A new outside vendor would be more inclined to sign if the area was still alive. Who is going to want to rent a space in an area that is completely dead? As I have said before.....do you think Raglan would have opened if they knew what was going to happen?

SO they didnt want to reinvest in the area.....how much money has been lost since they closed all the clubs? Sound like a judgement error? No just so we dont have to admit we were wrong we are keeping the place a ghost town..........hence arrogance

Of course we'd all complain if any of these places showed up in DTD. We expect better. But I get the major point. Tourism is alive and well in Orlando and businesses are expanding. The fact DTD can't seem to attract anyone new says alot about the leadership (or lack of) there.

Yes I did... and what stopped it was that it was still being viewed as a 'shoot from the hip' plan and the power-that-be wanted it to be re-washed and make sure it was more than the Hyperion plans were.... A lot of people don't realize that the Hyperion plans came out VERY premature, and that they were mostly blue-sky concepts and drawings that were presented.

So do you think that we're any closer to an announcement before the end of the year?

So, they're selling Mad T Party merch in D Street now and new Mad Hatter looking living statues were seen last night by @attractions - http://instagr.am/p/QIwKeHn96Y/

There was a rumor that a version of Mad T Party will be coming to PI, and this seems to be a major sign. Anyone else know anything on this?

1. Hhhmmm...

2. No I wouldn't.

3. True to you - is very true.

haven't been told anything that would lead me to believe they are prepared to make any annoucenements soon.. Everything is "full steam ahead on new fantasyland" right now..

As far as anyone stating that it was a mistake to close PI... They would have to think it was to say that... No one I've talked to believes it was a mistake.. So, that point is moot....

not saying they are right, just saying they don't believe it was a mistake.... at least not right now.

Sorry...that makes zero sense.

I just re-read it.. it does to me, but I know what I meant.. I can see how it wouldn't make any sense at all :)

What I meant is:

- People are surprised that TDO hasn't stated that it was a mistake
- TDO hasn't stated that, because they still don't believe it was a mistake. They stand by the decision.

hope that clears up what I meant.. :)... Sometimes things sound better in my head than they do in text ;)

Got 'cha.

Of course they aren't going to admit that it was a mistake. That is my whole point.

I actually forgot to mention Pointe Orlando, which has seen probably half a dozen new restaurants (and a comedy club!) in that time frame--the exact type of higher end but still highly themed restaurants WDW was allegedly courting for TAFKaPI.

I never expect TDO to admit publicly this was a mistake. But I don't think for a moment they don't acknowledge that privately. The VP who pushed for the reimaginging is gone, doubt that is a coincidence.

Nor do I.

Keep in mind.. Executives in publically traded companies don't like to apologize and admit mistakes.. Stock prices drop when you do that :)

But let's not forget that the current VP Keith Bradford at Downtown Disney is the former head of outsourcing. So we can be sure that will continue. And if the name you all are talking about is Kevin Lansberry, didn't he get a "promotion" to a new position heading Transportation?
Yes, and after the kid got killed he got promoted again to SVP in the travel company

Just returned home from a weekend at WDW. The parking lots for Downtown Disney were so full at 7:15 pm on Saturday that we had to park down at Cirque du Soleil just to find an empty space. When we left at 11 pm, the parking lots were still full and several rows had filled up even beyond where we had parked. While we were there, the money was just flying out of my pockets from House of Blues to Baby Cakes to World of Disney to Ghiradelli. Thankfully we escaped before I had to hitchhike home!

So, that apology is probably not coming anytime soon - October is the "slow period" of the year, right?

But speaking of the Adventurer's Club, its distinctive architecture was missing. Since I am not there every month or even every year, it is possible I overlooked it, especially since I was there after sundown. But has something happened that went unreported in this thread?
