Same old question about park hopping

If you don't have the parkhopper option, can you use 2 days in the same day to enter two different parks?

Okay, okay, I know the question gets asked every other day or so, and I have been to WDW enough times, and posted here enough times, to know that the answer is "no, you must have the parkhopper option". But before I get flammed for asking the question again, there is a reason why I am asking, and pardon me if this has been brought up already, but I don't post on here quite as often as I used to.

I recently received the March/April edition of Celebrations magazine, and I was reading the article titled "Avoiding Ticket Trauma" on pages 28 and 29, by Beci Mahnken. On page 28, she says "visiting a second park is possible, but it would use up another 'day' on your ticket". Then on page 29, she says "If you want to visit more than one park during the same day, you would either have to use two days on a base ticket, or add the park hopper option".

So, has the policy on parkhopping changed? Or did she goof? I understand none of us is perfect and we all make mistakes, but that would be a pretty significant error for someone who, according to her credentials on page 28, is an authorized Disney vacation planner with over 12 years of vacation planning experience.

As far as I'm aware, that is incorrect information and you must have the parkhopper to enter more than one park on a given day. Had this changed within the last two years I'm sure there would have been a notification on the CM website (which I access frequently and have for the past 2 years) and there has not. So either the change is over 2 years old, they never notified the CMs as a whole about the change or the information is incorrect. I'm going with the later. Of course I could be wrong but that's what I think.

A 10 day base ticket costs less than a 5 day park hopper. If it were possible for people to use 2 park admissions in one day, no one would spend the extra money on a park hopper.

Surely others besides me have noticed this error, then, and have reported it to Tim. Hopefully we will see a correction in the next issue.

Like I said, we can't expect anyone to be above making a mistake, but come on! This person has a segment in every single issue of the magazine and she is credited with being an authorized Disney Vacation planner with 12 years of experience. So, IMO, it's rather inexcusable for someone with such experience planning vacations to WDW to make such a basic error. Many of us here know better, but there are some people who might read this magazine and be misled. For example, I know a woman at work who has been to WDW once or twice in her lifetime and she and a friend are planning a trip next summer. She is not a WDW junkie like we are and she specifically ordered this issue of the magazine because it is featuring the resort they plan to stay at, All Star Music. She is going to read that article and won't know any better than to just believe what she reads. Of course, I'll advise her that the info is incorrect, but how many other people might make a wrong decision on the parkhopper option based on what they read in this magazine?

You definitely cannot use two days of tickets on a base ticket on the same day. You do need a park hopper in order to get into another park on the same day.

I'm guessing the person meant to say something along the lines of two separate one-day tickets could be used but it didn't come out clearly.

No, she said it very clearly on page 28 and again on page 29. In my initial post, I quoted exactly what she said and it was very clear that she was saying that if you have a multiday ticket and don't want to purchase the parkhopper option, you can "parkhop" by using additional "days" on your ticket in the same day.

Maybe she didn't actually write it, though. Perhaps she has teammembers who write these articles and it was the writer who goofed and the error escaped her editing process. But still...

I believe you that what you typed as a quote was accurate to what was printed; but what I was saying is that she probably was "interviewed" by someone for the article. In the interview process either how she said it or how it was written up, the info got muddled into what was printed. She probably was trying to tell the interviewer something about using two days, but wasn't really clear and thus it came out in a way that seems to say you can use two days of a multi-day MYW ticket.

So what happens if someone already bought and used their pass for the day and wanted to visit another park? SOL?

Been going to the park for years and never realized this, most of the time we bought park hopper, but a few times we did not include it.

Yes just like everyone says. If you have the Base Ticket non hopper you can not enter 2 or more parks in the same day. From what i hear once you enter a park you are stuck there for that day. You can always add the park hopper if you like...

She writes articles every month, she is a regular columnist. I doubt that they would interview her every month....but I could be wrong.

Just go to the ticket window at that park and add the park hopper option.

You can exit and enter the same park on that day.
