Safaris change?

Don't worry, you weren't going crazy. Unlike the dead Big Red, I *do* have a pic of the dead animal carcass in the tree:
It was at the VERY beginning of the Pangani Forest walking trail. It was in the empty stretch of path between the hut where you entered the trail, and the first viewing location on the left. 99.999% of Guests missed it because they were hurrying along the path to see the animals. But the "story" played out as a succession of footprints in the cement as you walked along the path:

First, there were separate prints of a gazelle (I'll call it an gazelle, not sure what it really was) and a lion crossing the path from one side to the other, apart from each other.
Then the next line of prints went back across the path showing the lion tracks following the gazelle.
Third set of prints were spaced out more, indicating that the gazelle and lion were running. These led to a spot in the bushes where there had apparently been a disturbance, because there was sort of a gap in the foliage.
Finally, the last set of prints was just the lion, but there were drag marks indicating that the lion was dragging the dead gazelle. These led straight to the tree in the photo, with the dead gazelle's carcass up in the tree.

Just one of those "hidden" things in the park that was put in there but most people never see.

The last time I walked the path (3-4 years ago), the prints were still there, but the dead animal had been removed. Since that time, I don't know if they've added anything where this was or re-did the walkway's cement. I'll be checking it out while I'm down there in a few weeks.

That is horrible! Yet hilarious at the same time! :D
It looks like your family has mixed emotions about the dead thing.
I agree!
Dead animals everywhere I thought this was the happiest place on earth? Eisner really was cutting costs with Animal Kingdom Couldn't even stretch to ge some live animals

He did spend a fortune on animals, but there was a spike in demand for burgers and dogs. A company has to satisfy demand somehow.

I did always think that the food there was a bit chewy Nice and fresh through! "From Our Safari to your plate in less than 24 hours"
That is a great slogan! :slurp: :slurp:
In the new safari storyline you become the poachers!! Like at buzz lightyear!! How many animals can you get???
"Yay Mommy, I just hit an elephant and got 1,000 points! Hey Mommy, what is wrong with the elephant now?":lookaroun I am a horrible person.

I think this was the one I got of him dead. If you look closely you can clearly see the X over his eye indicating beyond a doubt that he is dead :p

According to today's WDW update at MousePlanet, some of the trucks are using the new script. Can anyone who's been recently or will go soon confirm this?

Yep, more and more of the trucks are getting the new spiel as the drivers get trained on them, up until June 1 when the whole thing will officially change over.

Wait, so if I understand this correctly, if you were to ride between now and the first of June you could get either script and it would be completely randomn, it would only depend if your driver has been trained to the new script yet?

And if somebody is going to post the new storyline to the ride could they please post a SPOILER WARNING before it. I will be able to ride it in Mid August and would like it to be a surprise when I ride it. Thanks in advance:wave:

Yeah, that's pretty much right. As far as the new script, I won't get into detail on it, there are quite a few changes, but storyline-wise, don't expect anything radically different.

why not go into it? Plenty of us are very curious. Of course, post a spoiler warning, but this is a discussion forum. Those of us who don't have the luxery of going to Disney often would love to hear more.

Alright, since you asked ;)...

*SPOILER ALERT*

First off, I should mention I've only read the script and haven't actually heard the new narration myself yet. But here's what I know... Ms. Jobson is gone completely. Which thereby eliminates my favorite line out of the whole attraction: "Ms. Jobson, nobody in Africa calls them Thompson's Gazelle, they are Tommies... TOMMIES!!" (I just appreciate the utter exasperation in Wilson's tone, thoroughly disappointed and perhaps a little angry at Ms. Jobson)

But anyway, lots of little changes... We now ask permission from Wilson before entering the reserve, the next time we hear from him is at the croc bridge, when he tells us he's seen quite a bit of elephant activity at the Red Clay Pits (which seems a little early, since we have yet to go throught the entire savannah for those familiar with the attraction). There's no more interuption until we get to elephant country, when we are told that a baby elephant has been wandering off on his own and the mother can't be found (note the elephants are not given names).

From here on, we get one or two more tips (such as checking out the lions at the kopjies) but we don't hear anything else about the missing elephants or poachers until we're right at the smashed gates, from there on the chase begins as usual. When we finally reach the end scene, there are a few changes. The airplane with Wilson's arm will be removed, the poacher jeep will be empty with the doors open and we'll be told that "the poachers ran, but they won't get far." Also, that the mother elephant has been found and is safe. The-elephant-formerly-known-as-Little-Red will remain in the back of the truck.

Overall, the emphasis seems to be less on the Wilson/poacher storyline and more on the actual animals. At once I think this is a good idea in that I think the storyline can sometimes be distracting and difficult to follow, especially when many of the animals are out and guests aren't interested. But at the same time, I've heard the new storyline is so thin that guests have been somewhat confused and less than enthusiastic about the poacher-chasing finale. There's that huge gap from when we first hear an elephant is missing to when we are all of a sudden told poachers are in the reserve (about 7 minutes later). There is also no apparent connection between the missing elephant and the poachers, so I'm guessing that will be up to the driver. The whole sense of urgency and importance in catching the poachers is sort of gone without that constant set-up throughout. (Again, I haven't experienced it myself, but this is what I'm told).

Oh, I've also heard they didn't get the same guy to do the voice of Wilson, so that should be pretty interesting...
