Rumor- WDW to get new monorail trains in near future

Good point. The other day I was running to catch a monorail at the Contemporary. My friend and I ran the entire length of the train before we finally found a car we could get into. Often as you say, a compartment was half full but blocking the open door. One thing we noticed was with seats facing each other people stick their legs out and add one stroller to that mix and that compartment is done. Luckily there aren't many strollers at Disney (nod, nod, wink, wink)

By turning the center seats there would be less legs blocking the door and more places to roll the strollers. Plus now you if one door is blocked you could enter the next door and circle around to the empty spaces. So, unless you hire those Professional Japanese Passenger Stuffers, people will always tend to block doorways.
I still think those double wide jogging strollers should be banned from monorails or at least made to fold up.

I would expect new trains to be new the way the Mark VIIs were new and not the way the Mark VIs were new.

I don't think we will get new monorails until the current ones are really really bad... like can not be used they are so bad!
Or possibly until they fall off the track...then they'll rotate the wheels on the bottom and use them as tram cars.

This reminded me of what my co-worker and I discussed today. Imagine when an alien culture finds Disney World if everyone dies in the future. They are gonna think it was the government cult body because of all the mickey ear they will find. They will think that Mickey was our god.
The movie Enemy Mine makes a joke roughly in that direction when the alien and the human are arguing.

In short... Yes new trains, but 'soon' is a relative term in this regard.

Quoted so this isn't missed. As long as there is some plan in play. Hoping the automation is step 1, then new trains step 2. And soon < 5 years then ok...

That likely explains the current dirty state of the interiors then...since new ones are just around the river bend :)
They'll probably wait until the last minute after everyone complains and then out of no where new trains will appear and everyone will happy with the New and Improved monorails and the old dirty ones will fade into memory...

Except that new trains not built on the bones of the existing trains does not make a lot of sense. Nor does such attitude create a good culture. Cutting maintenance on existing facilities creates a lower cost of maintenance that would have to be justifiably increased at a time of existing increased costs.

Yeah I'm not a fan of on the outside looking new and the guts of it being glued together. Hopefully...HOPEFULLY...they'll go through a whole new monorail train system and recycle the old ones elsewhere...hopefully...

Why hopefully? The bones of what exists are not much different than what would be bought new. Maintenance culture won't change because they bought something new.

And I'm not sure I buy into the theory that the deteriorating condition of the current monorails means new ones are going to be purchased....

No it just means TDO wants the monorail system to fail so they can close it and replace with buses
Monorails are part of the inflated prices at the Magic Kingdom resorts as well as part of moving people from the Transportation and Ticket Center. Just because you keep saying it doesn't make it so.

They would never build the monorail today - they will find a way to shut it down

I think there are some folks that need to back up and get off of the ledge for a second. They are not shuttering the monorails, such an iconic piece of WDW's history, unless the whole place goes with it. Everyone knows what the monorail is and where its famous for being located at. Next thing you'll tell me is that the castle is too much maintenance and they'll be shutting it down as well. Hey, the monorail is as big of an icon as Cinderella's Castle and if they close the monorail, they might as well close the whole place. If that goes, I won't be worrying about the monorail because it will mean something far worse is coming. Really! Can you imagine them announcing that they are shuttering the monorails?? Their stock would go in the tank because everyone would know that financially they were about to give up and close the doors. And, that would indeed close them.
