In general, would these flat-rate room-only discounts be better or worse than free dining? I suppose it would depend on the tier of the resort, but would you come out better going with the room only rate vs. the free dining?

Woo-hoo! I managed to book my January 2011 trip (staying at the Poly) and get dining reservations for LeCellier, the Polynesian Luau, the Coral Reef, Teppan Edo, and San Angel Inn (so far). Can't wait!

Available dates for free dining. Children are still in school at this time.
5/27/11 - 6/2/11 and 8/19/11 - 9/29/11

Also, I would never take my kids out of school. Education is more important than a trip.
I agree that I would not take my kids out of school, but I would love it if Disney could extend discount or offer another discount during the summer months.
I have a family of 5 and we get screwed just because we have 5 and now we are being screwed out of free dinning.

Because I have 3 schoold age kids I have to pay and additional 2 - 3 K.

RUMOR: New 2011 discounts being announced for Walt Disney World
Aug 14, 2010

We've heard some VERY juicy rumors that a new round of discounts are set to be released on Monday (Aug 16th).

First - it looks like there will be room rate discounts available for arrivals from early October 2010 through mid-February 2011. There will likely be some blackout dates in there (namely Christmas week).

Second - there may be a gift card / package promotion available along with those reduced room rates. No word on how much, but tantalizing none the less.

But, the biggest and juiciest rumor we're hearing is that they will be announcing FREE DINING dates for 2011 in the next day or two!!!! What we're hearing is that the dates being released will be 'somewhat similar' to the dates released for this year - BUT there may also be some free dining dates released for earlier in the year as well.

The booking window for these promotions is rumored to be from August 16-November 21st.

I want to stress that these are RUMORS, not fact - but the source is good and I expect to see these released on Monday.

These rumors would be very nice if true!

Unfortunately our March trip doesn't fall under the select dates. But that's okay because we don't usually get the dining plan anyways. Was hoping for a room discount or a free gift card or buy 4, get 3 free type discount honestly.

Two questions...

1) Any idea when they might release the AP rates for the remainder of this year and early next year?

2) Last year President's Week had the buy 4, get 3 free option. Do you think they'll have any kind of deal for that week this year? It's currently blacked out on the promotions they just released today.

if my kids were in high school I could see not taking them out for a week, if they got a week behind they would be behind for the rest of the year probably. however, my kids are both in grade school and it's not that big of a deal, last trip we went in early December and next year we're going in late September/October. teachers are really good about giving them work ahead of time or letting them catch up when they get back, again, in grade school it's not that hard to make up a week of school. this will however, more than likely be the last time we will be able to pull them out of school for vacation, so I'm going to enjoy it.

I'd rather see Disney invested in more rides than passing out discounts that only some can take advantage of.

The discounts don't have an impact on whether Disney improves the parks or not. If there weren't discounts alot pf people probably wouldn't go at all. Those times are slow for Disney and it's better for them to give a 30% discount or free food and fill up the rooms than to have empty rooms.

As for skooling, me going to teech my kidz at disnee all bi myself 4 2 weaks.

I think it would depend on your party size also. I have a party of five and am getting 2 rooms at a value hotel. The savings on a free quick service service dining plan for 5 people ($150 per day) outweighs any room discount (even 40%) in a value room as near as I can tell.

These discounts are actually HELPING Disney, not hurting them. During this recession, most tourism-related companies have seen falling attendance and profits, but these deals have actually allowed Disney to slightly INCREASE attendance and keep profits roughly flat. While each guest may be spending less than they normally would, the number of additional bookings they are receiving has largely offset this decreased per guest spending.

WOO HOO!!!!!

We are going to the world in October. When we originally booked the trip the $500 gift card offer ended before we arrived, so no gift card was available. Well the dates for the gift card offer changed.

So....

I just called Disney, figuring the worst they could say was no. But they looked up my reservations, and they applied the code. The package was already paid off and the price did not change, and now I get the $500 gift card. There is much celebrating going on right now!!!!!

Normally I get to pay full price for my Disney vacations, I try to get the discounts, but it has never worked before.

Also found out that all the stuff will be sent out 20 days to arrival. They said that to many people would change stuff when they would send it out 45 days to arrival.

It really depends on the kids and the school. My folks took me out of high school in 11th grade for 10 days so that we could all go to the winter Olympics in France together. I can assure you that the educational experiences I had during that trip far surpassed anything I would have learned in school that week. I'm now a physician, so I think I did OK when it came to academics and being a successful person (not saying that you have to be a Dr. or "educated" to be successful, so I hope no one takes it that way).

Anyone have any idea why most of May is excluded from the free dining discount. We're really hoping to go the third week of May and get some AP discounts.

That is what I would like to know as well.

Given that the AP rate for mods was 35% last year, I wouldn't think it would be any less this year considering the general public gets 30%.

Yes, they are - but it's important to note that the differential for having an AP is now VERY small. My wife & I have one... we'll have to consider carefully whether or not to bother renewing it for 2011.
like most say its not the size that matters but how you use it

Are these the discounts we were told were being ended in 2010? Or are these different discounts? :lookaroun
