'rude' or 'ignorant'......that is the question.

Hands are really nasty. More nasty than any body bit handled during a routine urination. I was my hands before and after for this reason. People look at me funny, but if they knew what was already on their hands.... yuck....

Now, defecation is a whole other thing, and needs to be taken very seriously. Very disease rich medium.

Wow! Before and after. You may be the first person I have heard of doing this. It makes sense to do so if you really think about what is on your hands and the potential for contamination while taking care of your business. I get picked on in my family for washing mine too much. My hands usually get very chapped during cold seasons, but you take hygiene to another level. Kudos!

Just yesterday I watched an unchaperoned little monster empty about a pound of frozen yogurt onto the drip tray of the machine. I arrived just when he completed his slovenly wasteful masterpiece so it was too late for me to intercede. And I would have. I would have LOVED it if the parent (wherever they were) objected to my spontaneous coaching.
Out running my routes I see SO many kids left unattended. We have backup cameras on our package cars and one day I drove up this lady's driveway to give her her package and she was unloading groceries from an SUV and I had to back up towards her front porch to get turned around and as I was backing I look in my camera to see how close I am to the porch and I see a little kid BLAZING out the front door running RIGHT IN BETWEEN MY PACKAGE CAR AND THE PORCH and I slam on my brakes and that woman says NOTHING to that kid. Man I was mad and I just handed her her box and told her to always keep an eye on where the kids are when we're backing up. She was totally oblivious. Then about a week or so ago I was driving through a neighborhood and I see about a 3 or year old little boy walking looking like he's about to go RIGHT OUT IN TO THE STREET IN FRONT OF ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING and I was like "HOLY CRAP!" and came to a stop near his driveway and his mom was in the garage out of sight and I told her I saw him looking like he was about to enter the street and she said "Oh no he wasn't gonna do that. He was just going to get the trash can and pull it to me" and it was one of those HUGE trash cans the city puts out for people. I was just dumbfounded that this idiot thought a little kid could handle that thing and would send him unattended to the street out of her sight. So it never surprises me at Disneyworld when people don't watch their kids good because I think they feel their kids are "safe" there and they don't have to watch them. What's crazy is it would actually be MUCH easier to lose a kid there then some may think.

I work with a guy that ONLY washes his hands before he pees. Then grabs the door handle and walks right out of the bathroom like it aint nothing. I've always thought that was really odd but where I work is testosterone central and to say a word about it would be like fist fighting a windmill. People just simply don't care and that's just the truth.

I all ways wash my hands and when paper towels are available after drying my hands use the paper towel (piece of toilet paper) to open the rest room door when leaving . It is disgusting the number of men/kids who don't wash their hands after peeing or dumping. I am not a germ freak but being a retire microbiologist I know what can be transmitted by unwashed hands.

It sorta makes sense, he is trying to keep his junk clean. Here is an old joke I loved as a kid...

An Air Force pilot, a Naval Officer and an Army Private all go to the bathroom
When they come out, the Air Force pilot begins thoroughly washing his hands and says, 'In the Air Force they taught us the importance of good hygiene.'

The Naval officer then begins washing his hands using only a small trickle of water and says, 'In the Navy they taught us the importance of good hygiene AND water conservation.'

The army private walks straight out without stopping and says, 'In the Army they taught us to not pee on our hands.'

Knowing what can be transmitted is a good reason to always go to the restroom first then when you go to a restaurant to wash your hands, and if there is no soap or paper towels to dry your hands with then you just leave because you know in your mind if you can't find a way to wash your hands easily the odds of the guys that works in the kitchen washing their hands after doing their business is pretty low.

Dude when you said "microbiologist" I actually read it as "marine biologist" and the first thing I thought of was George Costanza on the beach with that whale and a woman screaming for a marine biologist. LOL!

Maaaaaybe some of the people that aren't washing in the bathroom are people that have some hand sanitizer at their stroller? I'm just grasping at straws for my own mental well being. LOL! Does sanitizer really even replace soap and water anyway?

I know some people who do this because they feel it's superior to washing your hands (used to see it at work a lot), but there was an FDA report a few years ago that said there's nothing to show it as being any more effective than common hand washing with soap. There was also concern that the sanitizers may do more harm than good in the long run. Not sure about any of the science behind it, but the people I know that are fanatical hand sanitizer users also seem to always be sick. So, it's good old soap and water for us.

My Mom worked in food services management most of her adult life.
She insisted that we always use a straw when drinking from a reusable water glass in any restaurant, carefully inspect tableware, and go to the restroom to wash our hands after handling the menus.
She said many employees pay no attention to sanitation laws/rules and, next to a hospital, restaurants are the best place to come in contact with other peoples biological nasty stuff.

Sanitizer is probably good in a pinch, but you're just pushing the dead germs around not rinsing them off.

Hand sanitzier work but they also work too well. Any human is going to have bacteria all over their skin and some of it helps to control the bad bacteria, but when you slop on that hand sanitizer you've just used a nuclear bomb on all the bacteria leaving behind wide open spaces for any new bacteria to have a field day whether its the good bacteria you want or the bad bacteria you don't want... then making it even worse the majority of hand sanitizer use alcohol to do the killing which tends to then dry out your skin making which isn't a good thing either.... best to just use soap and water

Yeah I'm REALLY about inspecting silverware no matter WHERE I'm at. I know it's offensive to people but that's tough. It makes my wife mad when I do it at home but my mamaw was always bad about not washing dishes good and I always had to inspect her silverware and it's just something that has always stuck with me.

I do a lot of traveling for work. So, I end up essentially living in airports, which I feel are a microcosm of our society, and could probably be analogized to fit WDW too. Anyway, my theory is that society is probably ~80% incompetent and ~20% entitled, especially when it comes to existing in a limited space, with enormous crowds, and an inherent "selfish" frame of mind.

Why, other than a false sense of entitlement, would a person think that it's perfectly fine to board the plane when "Premium" zone is announced, despite having a boarding pass that clearly shows that they're in "Zone 2"? Why, other than complete obliviousness or incompetence, does a person immediately stop after getting off an escalator to check where their gate is at, instead of moving to the side, and allowing for the rest of the airport passengers to continue on their way forward?

The same sort of things happen all the time at Disney, obviously, since many of us have our own stories to share. Like in an airport, a singular incident might not be the biggest deal, but when you're in the airport several times a week, it all adds up. Same at Disney. Yeah, one guy cutting you might not be the end of the world, but when you go as frequently as some of us do, and observe it all the time, it adds up and can become incredibly frustrating.

1. You think a short simple response of "no" to a question asking if I want take a survey is rude?

2. I do not think complaining about taking a survey or having to take a less efficient route to a restroom is a complaint worth taking to guest services. If I am going to take the time to complain to guest services it will be for something much less frivolous. Moreover, I certainly wasn't rude to the cast members I interacted with regarding these issues. Surveyors sometimes get a "no" or "no thank you" versus me giving them the time taking the survey that I used to. These are interactions none of the CMs will remember as there was no rudeness or belligerence. Just shorter answers than I used to give knowing that it cost more per hour to be on property.

This issue was that you said that your had possible by curt to a cast member yourself. We did not ascribe that to you, you did to yourself.

3. Yes everything is more expensive than 15 years ago, but Disney has been raising prices at a rate considerably higher than inflation. I can tell you that I paid more than .89 per gallon for gas 15 and even 20 years ago. I also paid more than $10,000 for a brand new car in 2002. Your comparisons amount to false equivalencies. Yes wages are higher also, but they have been relatively flat in the USA over the last 20 years.
Well, we actually remember paying those prices where we lived. Maybe you are from another part of the country that costs more. And our wages have more then tripled. Look, I get that you are very unhappy about Disney prices. No one wants to pay more. I wish prices where lower on everything, not just WDW. Things have got out of hand with how much they cost now. But it would be extremely unusual for Disney to have prices from 1995 now. You think it is crowded now?
