Room Safe Sizes

I have look around, but can't seem to find the answer to this. Does anyone know the dimension of the wall safes in rooms? Debating bringing a netbook sized laptop with me and I would leave it at home it it wouldn't fit. I recall the internal dimensions are slightly smaller than a 8.5x11 sheet of paper, but not sure what exactly. And I also know that the "trim" around the door chops a few inches of clearance off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't seen any safes big enough to hold anything more than a wallet and a few small things, and that is in the Deluxe hotels.

We always have 2 laptops with us on our trips (the DD's can't be without them  ) and we have never had a problem leaving them in our room. We either put them in the suitcase or the bottom drawer of the dresser. We even left one on a table charging (by accident mind you) and it was never touched! Mousekeeping totally skipped cleaning the table.

The safe at Port Orleans Riverside is about 2-3 inches deep and about 6-8 inches high.
Best of my memory.
They are probably similar at the other resorts.

Not a big space.

The safe at POP had enough space for my Macbook, but not DH's Macbook Pro (which I think is a few inches larger?)

But we actually never locked the safe. We've never had a problem with anyone messing with our "valuables." Cameras, laptops, etc. have always been left untouched by housekeeping - not that we leave them in the middle of the room or anything! ;)

Where would you use your netbook? In the airport?

Not old, just vintage.
My sister and I both left our laptops out on the table for 4 days this past week and nothing happened to them. Frankly, I don't know why we didn't even bother putting them away. I usually will at least toss the laptop into the bottom of my drawer or something.

I will add that the wall safes in the mods are very small - room for a wallet and your car keys is about it. The safe in the wardrobe at the Contemporary was bigger, and laid flat, but you'd have to have a pretty small laptop for it to fit, I'd think. DD took hers a couple years ago, and we just put in the suitcase and locked it whan we were gone. Never had a problem with anyone bothering anything.

It's less for surfing, and more for secondary backup of photos taken while on the trip.

Ahhh - yes. Very smart! I would want to do that too. I think the answer is "maybe" but honestly, I think you would have no problem locking up a netbook in the safe. That's the whole point of a netbook - small and portable, so you should be fine. Have a great trip! :xmas:

The wall safes are small. They are pretty standard across the board of value, moderate, and deluxe resorts. You will more than likely not have room for a computer, even a small one, in that safe.

Please keep in mind though: if the safety of your items is a concern your Front Desk Cast Members can secure you a safety deposit box. It will be in a separate room from everything and there are only 2 keys for each box, your's and the master. You will need to fill out a card to obtain and access the box, but I would imagine that an item considered to be valuable would be worth the small trouble.

Same goes for us, but I think we may use the safe this time because we'll be bringing more cash than usual.

We've never used the in-room safes before...how does it work? Do you create the passcode? or is there a key?

When we staryed @ CB a couple years ago, the wall safe came with a key. But the safe at the Contemporary is in the wardrobe and locks electronically - you set the password.

The ones we've used in the Poly, Boardwalk and WL were all key locks (but we haven't been since 2007 so things may have changed with all the refurbs .

The Polynesian has newer safes that are not wall safes, they are actually located inside the closet and are large enough that you could easily fit a netbook inside and still have room to put a few other items. Also they are not "key" entry anymore. These safes now are either credit card swipe entry or you enter your own 4 digit entry code.

I know this because we got back from an 8 night stay at the Polynesian yesterday.

Here is a picture of the safe from allears.net

Actually -- there is no way to tell what size the wall safe is until you have an actual room number. They are not standardized, and depending on where you stay, they are larger size (macbook pro 15" and smaller), or very small wall size (maybe 8" max, 2 inch wide) or somehwere in between.

I always stay at French Quarter - and I have had four different sizes of safes in the rooms. Only the largest safes fit the laptop.

I leave my laptop in my laptop bag, and put it inside one of the clothes drawers, and have never had a problem. Housekeeping is the last group of people you need to worry about. If you leave it lying around where guests can see and you don't lock your door, you could find a break-in. That is so rare it's not even worth worrying about.

Lock your door, keep your valuables out of window-view, and you won't have a problem.

I baby my electronics and would not leave them somewhere where I thought they'd get stolen. I have no problem leaving my laptop out at WDW. In the morning, I usually either put it in its case or in my suitcase, which locks. If we go back to the room in the middle of the day and I use the laptop, I just leave it out charging on the table. I've never had a problem, over the course of several trips to WDW with a laptop.
