News Rogers the Musical coming to the Hyperion Theater

In-universe and out-universe Rogers: The Musical is EXACTLY like Loki's play in Thor: Ragnarok. You see a woman watching it getting emotional and crying and leaning on Thor, who is watching it like it's the stupidest thing he's seen - and he was also there for the real events that are being portrayed in a ridiculous way (i.e. the little blue-painted boy and the cheap backdrops and "Thor's" reaction to "Loki's" death).

Hawkeye at Rogers: The Musical is literally just redoing the exact same scene with different players.

Both performances are clearly intended to be terrible and cheesy to make the audience (us) laugh at the people who are seemingly enjoying it (the crowds) and those being peeved by it (Hawkeye, Thor) for the terrible representation of "real" events they experienced and we have seen play out onscreen.

I have repeatedly joked with friends that they should alternate at the Hyperion between Rogers: The Musical and Loki: The Story of Loki and His Glorious Lokiness (or whatever the play was called in Ragnarok) if they really want to go full in for comedy since I thought the Loki bit was much funnier. :)

If not, I'd rather have Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, an actual show, here. Or Hercules. Or Moana. Or Encanto. Or...

The musical number at D23 was a personal highlight. Whatever it is supposed to be I had a smile plastered on my face the whole time. It was clearly started as a nod to the Thor plays, but they put so much effort into it that it comes out the weird other end where it's actually such well done cheese that it's actually good.

I'm definitely down to see it again and it does make way more sense in the context of how DCA is now built surrounding that area.

As others have mentioned, they also have to more or less do this production from scratch, which is also kind of exciting. We are getting several 'parks' original songs.

Oh and let's stick in a WDW dig that DLR is AGAIN updating a production while DHS shows are left in the state they are.

I’m starting to think they included “Save the City” for D23 last year as a test to see how the audience would react before moving forward with this project.

Imagine being a Floridian and they are still showing Beauty and the Beast at DHS… 😓

Funnily enough DHS only has 2 shows that are more than 10 years old (Indiana Jones and Beauty and the beast), the rest are fairly new (Frozen singalong, Cars, vacation fun) or updated recently (Fantasmic).

I’m with you on this one. I interpreted Rogers to be a “serious” musical in the show and not a parody. In the scene, Clint is visibly embarrassed and unimpressed by the show. Additionally, no one else in the audience is laughing. They are watching the show with serious faces and taking it seriously. If this was supposed to be parody, there should be more evidence of such a show. Neither Clint, nor the audience should have been taking the show so seriously. They would have more likely than by gone in knowing it was a parody and would have therefore had more fun and lighthearted responses. It was the exact opposite, though.

The musical is an obvious parody for us viewers watching Hawkeye from our devices, and we are supposed to find it ridiculous and funny. However, it definitely comes off as a serious musical to the viewers in Hawkeye. That’s my take on it.
I don't think anyone is suggesting the show is supposed to be a parody in the world of the MCU. It is a parody for us. It's supposed to be objectively bad from our and Clint's perspective.

Nobody is saying it's the in-world Book of Mormon or anything.

Frankly, having Rogers: The Musical at the Hyperion just sounds like one of those ideas you read on a Facebook group for Disney fans. It’s the same thing as when dumb people say Disney should build an Yzma coaster. Just because something exists in a movie does not mean it needs to be recreated in a theme park.

If that was the case, the Frozen show would have been more successful. Catchy songs help, but a good script and directing are what make a show entertaining.

I'm excited for the new version of Hercules being developed for the stage. Catchy music but also a fun story and the opportunity for theatricality.
Who said it wasn't successful? I even saw it on a Disney Cruise. Who even remembers Hercules? That ship sailed more than twenty years ago.

I think it is time that Disney finally enclosed the Hyperion and gave us something of the quality of the Disney Sea version. How hard can it be to enclose those stairs and upgrade the interior?

It is bad enough that we have this ugly muppet shell.

Hercules has a large millennial following with a ton of merch/collectibles being released for it over the past few years. It's absolutely got a current fandom (and is a great movie :)) It, along with Encanto, are both developing stage productions for Disney.

Hercules would be wonderful in the Hyperion, but since it is in larger development already, I wonder if it missed its shot at using the Hyperion as a testing ground like both Aladdin and Frozen did before they went to Broadway.

But I'm intrigued by the updated audition notices for Rogers: The Musical and that it indicates something even better than the cheesefest shown in Hawkeye. At least, I hope it is! :)

Disney did. They kept making adjustments and changes to the show to improve it's ratings with guests. They were never able to scratch the same level of success as Aladdin, which is why they cut it instead of bringing it back post COVID.

And Hercules is being prepped for a potential Broadway run.

I'm not expecting a Broadway production but it'll probably be at least 30 minutes- it takes too long to seat the theater and empty the theater to have it be 15 minutes.

Aladdin was 45 minutes and Frozen was an hour. My guess is that Rogers will be 50-55 minutes.

No, spending money to build San Fransokyo was more important....apparently.

Ya, really doesn’t make a lot of sense when you say that.

My hope is just that there are still bigger aspirations for the backlot. Which is maybe the second worst area in a US disney park now beside DHS mermaid/season of the force area? At least in terms of places that literally don’t seem to have a current plan.

I have more faith DCA will get addressed though in the medium term, DHS is probably bottom of their priorities these days.
