I didn't care for the ride all that much, and that seems to be the general consensus I see online. Seems dumb to not at least retheme it.

Oh come on. Kids dont care about Aerosmith. I don't think adults do all that much anymore either as their music hasn't aged well. Aerosmith doesn't belong in a Disney park

The ride isn't popular because of Aerosmith IP. The ride is popular because it's a good ride.

Also see: Splash mountain (RIP)

Popular IP can also make a fairly unpopular ride: The Seas with Nemo

If it is being rethemed, I don’t understand why they wouldn’t tell fans before it went down. Not sure I buy this yet. We will see.

I don’t buy Queen for a second, but would they use Adam Lambert or deepfake Freddie? John Deacon has also been away from the band as a performer for ages.

Assuming there is an eventual refresh/retheme, and that the rock n’ roll theme continues, there are far more contemporary and relevant acts. Despite their recent loss of Taylor, the Foo Fighters have CA ties to keep with Hollywood Blvd, and have a pretty good track record of acting on camera in very fun music videos.

Whenever the retheme occurs, I still think we end up with an IP retrofit of some sort, though.

Disney does own Queen's catalog, but I don't think that's necessarily a good argument for why they may use Queen. However as far as Disney's concerned IMO is they would plug in a real IP, not Queen just to save on licensing.
