And the Tuesday view from Critter Country...

It looks like Disneyland got brand new canoes. Anaheim and Tokyo are the only two parks that still have a canoe ride on their River. (Paris and Orlando got rid of them decades ago, Hong Kong never had them, and Shanghai has a canoe ride that goes around a pirate lagoon)

It's a bit weird to see the river make such an abrupt turn just past the canoe dock. It'll take awhile to get used to. Nevertheless the entire project ROA has turned out great IMO.

As you essentially point out, the canoes are an element that makes Disneyland special.

While I've only ridden them a few times over the years, I'm sure glad they're here.

Well, they've had plenty of opportunities, including this one, to create isolated smoking areas, but they insist on putting them right on main walkways. Don't blame the smokers. Blame Disney.

Why can't they build semi-enclosed areas ventilated with filtering exhaust fans, not directly visible to park guests (including children) other than the directional sign? This is not rocket surgery! I don't care if they a provide nicotine addicts with a place to feed their Jones. Of course, I wouldn't object if they added health-oriented posters from folks like the American Heart/Lung Associations. Or even a TV monitor with anti-smoking PSAs. But hey, that's just me. YMMV.

Who's job was it to round up the turtles?

Don't think they needed to. Because they didn't drain the entire ROA, I believe the integrity of the "brown water system" throughout the park was undisturbed. When they completely drained the ROA some years ago (they have to do it roughly every decade or so) the water around the castle moat continuing past the entrances to Frontierland and Adventureland got pretty funky because the system wasn't circulating.

IIRC, all the natural bodies of water in DL Park are connected either directly, or with pipes and pumps. From ROA (including the pond by BTMRR exit), to Storybook, to what's left of FL Motor Boats, to Castle Moat/West Hub/Tiki exit, to Jungle, and back to ROA.

I was told some years ago that they stock ROA with fish, including Mosquito Fish. But the waterfowl can bring eggs from other species stuck to their feet from other watersheds, so at any given time Disney doesn't know exactly what's in there.

Yeah, they should replace that charming Space Mountain guy looking out for your safety on the ride with diseased ex-smokers warning you about the dangers of smoking.

Edgy. You're living up to your name. But you need one of this cool purple and black cone hats from the CMs at Guardians.

This is a side step from our regularly scheduled program, but I've been thinking about the reopened big thunder trail. I wonder how much the view from the hill on Big Thunder Mountain has changed since work on the trail has finished?

Twitter and some other message boards are saying that Tom Sawyer Island will reopen to visitors on Friday, June 16th.

Let's hope our favorite lady blogger is there on Friday to see what kind of views she can see. I would imagine the new Indian Village is visible from the east side of the island up near the fort.
