River Country Rumor!

If true, wouldn't there be a work permit filing that we could see?

There was a permit filed for demolition of the River Country Nature Walk Boardwalk back in February:

http://or.occompt.com/recorder/eagl...58.pdf?id=DOC546S21112.A0&parent=DOC546S21112

That was from edwardtc's WDW Pemit Thread under 2/11/2010: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=497833

Now whether or not that is what the OP's source was refering to, or an actual overall demolition, I dunno. But like any good rumor, there is at least some basis in fact.

We talked about that but he also went on to mention that the entire site would be demolished so I came here to see if anyone could confirm?

Good riddance. It will never open again due to water issues and is a safety trap and visual eyesore. I think TDO/Glendale got ed at one too many rouge photo reports from the area.

It could be rebuilt if they sealed off the lake and replaced it with chlorinated water. They could even theme the water with a little color, have a sandy bottom, and an 'infinity edge' to make it look like it goes out into the lake. Put some giant pirate ships in the lake w/water cannons and replace the slide complex. On a side note, I really miss those old concrete river tube rides where you drop from pool to pool. Of course, this will probably not happen, but I'd love to see it.

I wonder if there is a possibility of them building a new waterpark there? I mean, they can obviously use it seeing as Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon close to capacity on a consistent basis.
Not there. One of the reasons it closed was the location.

If this turns out to be correct I hope we see daily photoblogs and videos of Pop Century the Road Warrior years. It might be the only way that place either gets torn down or finished.

I have it on good authority that Pop is the next resort project, now that Hawaii is complete, and should be ready for next summer.

About time RC was bulldozed. Just a tragedy waiting to happen. Plus there is no telling what was breeding under all that green slime.

Anyway, that land is prime waterfront real estate for an expansion of either FW or the WL DVC.

Or, who knows?

I'm sorry, I am not familiar. What's wrong with Pop Century?

On the other side of the lake at Pop Century, the "Legendary Years" were supposed to be built, featuring decor from the first half of the 20th Century. Part of the resort was built, but construction was halted due to a lack of demand after the events of 9/11. What's there now is a few shells of buildings, concrete pads for others that weren't built, and empty parking lots.

If you do a thread search, there are several threads with pictures and further discussion. Also, here's a vid on YouTube showing a little more:
