Rides or "Attractions" that used to scare you

I am pretty the very last dino that was over your head at the end moved towards you years ago, whereas now it just sits there. It just looked more scary.

From what I remember, it ended with the meteor instead of the Carno in the bushes and then an explosion of stars, but I could be wrong. I really only opened my eyes once on the ride and that's when I was like 9.

I used to be scared of riding Big Thunder Mt, I wouldn't ride it until I was in my teens. Now it is one of my favorite rides, rode it 5 times when I was at the MK for one day this past February!

My first time going on BTMR, I was 6 years old and I distinctly remember waiting in line and crying, just watching the ride from the queue. I remember like it was yesterday... a little girl in line ahead of us came up to me and said "don't cry, I have been on this a lot and it is fun and not scary at all." This girl was probably my age lol. Well I went on and loved it and I have loved it ever since.

ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter ... BUT it was a good kind of scare. I LOVED IT. It got the imagination going, it got the blood pumping, and when the Alien broke out and was in the attraction WITH you and you were trapped in your seat.... well that was the greatest. Disney really had it right with that ride. Unfortunately they blew it for me by making the Stitch change.

Tower of Terror always did (and still does) get me a little bit scared. First of all, "ghosts" always used to freak me out so that first scene of the ride with the ghosts in the hallway always creeped me out a little bit. Also, for whatever reason I can never remember where the drop is! I've been on the ride many times but whenever I go I can't quite remember when the drop is going to happen so that always keeps me a little on edge.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror - That drop at the end. After my first ride I was totally "never freaking ever again". But I loved the rest of the ride so much...the design, the storytelling, the uber-cool-creepy vibe...that I kept riding it until I could handle that drop. Now I just whoop and holler during that part and listen to the other guests freak out. It's part of the fun. :D

I was about...7 or 8 and my father let me watch Alien. Oddly enough the movie didn't scare me.

But the Great Movie Ride....that had me freaked out. I had to close my eyes and ears for that part of the ride.

Also, Alien Encounter. It's the only Disney attraction where a cast member gets his head bitten off by a giant alien bug, and then their body gets dragged around the room a bit and you get splashed with their blood.

WHAT??????

(yeah, I never saw the original Alien Encounter. And now I'm not the least bit sorry. :p )

I still close my eyes for the Alien scene in GMR because it gives me nightmares. And I was 7 or 8 when Alien Encounter closed and it was one of the few rides my mom did not make me try once. We had a rule of once per trip on every ride, but that one...no.

When I was in elementary school (3rd grade I think) my father and I went to the Magic Kingdom and I distinctly remember the line "And now a ghost will follow you home" scared the crap out of me and I ended up having trouble sleeping a few nights then after. Luckily being the "rational" child I was I figured that a ghost probably could not travel across country and that with 999 Happy Haunts they probably couldn't afford to lose 1 so I eventually got over it. Unfortunatley I later visited Gettysburg and my fear of ghost returned, but thats a long story for another day.

Oh man, where do I even begin? I was probably the most chicken child ever. Maybe I should break this down into parks?

MK:
Pirates of the Caribbean - I was terrified of the tiny drop my sister told me about!
Splash Mountain - I was strictly a no Roller Coaster/Drops kid.
BTMR
Haunted Mansion - Ghosts, not able to see inside, etc.
Snow White - I was so positive that rock would actually land on us.
Space Mountain - Roller Coaster? In the Dark? No thanks.

Epcot:
Universe of Energy - I didn't like the sound of giant dinosaurs. Also, my sister said it smelled *shrug*
Maelstrom - No. No. No. No. I didn't like the trolls. Didn't like the drop. And I was so positive that our boat was going to get tossed over the edge of the falls. Just, no.
Space Ship Earth - My grandmother had to repeatedly remind me every year that when you go down the hill backwards it's mind boggling slow. But being a child with a wild imagination what if all of a sudden the carts went loose and they flew down that hill?
Body Wars - Since I couldn't see the ride or what it was like I refused to ride it.

Hollywood Studios:
Backlot Tour - Terrified of Catastrophe Canyon. I liked seeing the Golden Girls' house though.
Star Tours - Same reason as Body Wars, also my sister said Chewbacca jumped out of the bushes to scare the guests in line once. No thanks. (I would LOVE that now, btw.)
Great Movie Ride - Alien. No thanks. Just no thanks. That was a hide in my grandma's arm pit kind of moment.
ToT - I was 19 before I rode it. And even that time I rode it I was planning on taking the chicken exit and by time we got through the line (45 minutes) I was like "You know what, screw this! I waited in line I'm getting on!" Best decision I ever made. It's been my favorite ride ever since. My heart still beats a mile a minute right before I board the elevator.
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster - I was almost 21 before I rode this. I eventually got over my fear of coasters but it being a launch coaster with loops I was weary of it. Now also one of my favorites. So much fun.

I think that's everything. It might have been easier to ask me what I wasn't afraid of!

Edit: I was also terrified of the totem poles in the War Chant section of the Enchanted Tiki Room.

I was scared of riding Spaceship Earth too for that same reason as a toddler. I rode it anyways because my dad loves that ride (I still love it). I felt so uncomfortable going down backwards, and I would hold on to my dad and occasionally look behind me, which scared me because it looked like a far fall if something happened.

Somehow I only remember one part of the pre-refurbished SSE. The part when your going down backwards and you can see TV screens playing the news.

Haunted Mansion - The old attic scene

Honey I Shrunk the Audience - The mice

It's Tough to Be a Bug - The bee sting

Tower of Terror - Drops

I didn't like things touching me, jumping out at me or straight down drops as a kid. I love Tower and Mansion now. Will always hate those 3-D movies due to annoying effects.

Yeah...there was a live cast member playing the part of a technician on a catwalk above the theater. After the alien escaped, the CM would work on trying to restore the power to the tube so that they could get rid of the alien.
And then this happened. (skip to the 6:33 mark)

After that, the alien decides to play like a big cat and drag the techie's body all around the chamber....and you get splashed with warm water, simulating blood.

Haunted Mansion - the beginning part of it (the spooky part) and then the pop up things in the graveyard

Great Movie Ride - being robbed by the gangster and the alien scene

Dinosaur - all of the giant dinosaurs popping out

Tower of Terror - the backstory to it

I'm not terrified of Dinosaur. I avoided it the last time I was there due to motion sickness problems.
Ask to sit in the front row center. The motion and jerking around is way less than the back row. The car is attached to the track near front rows while the back rows whip around a lot more.

When I was a kid, there was only one park: Magic Kingdom. Parents took me in the early 1970s, so the rides would be:
  • Space Mountain
  • Snow White
  • Skyway (height)
  • Star Jets (height)
  • Mission to Mars (noise, lots of shaking)

Dinosaur-Still scares me. I've only been on it on once and will never go on again. It's too scary and the ride itself is just too intense for me.

Great Movie Ride- the Alien section still freaks me out.

Ice Tunnel at Club Cool- Sure it wasn't a ride but that place was seriously scary as a kid. Cavemen frozen in ice is seriously not kid friendly at all.
