The same goes for all big releases. They were selling tickets to the last Harry Potter movies 2 months in advance. Same for Star Wars. Same for The Hunger Games. Same for the Twilight movies.

HP7 has pulled in $381mil, The Phantom Menace $474mil, The Hunger Games $346.4mil, and Twilight: Eclipse $300.5mil. I would go so far as to say that this Avengers movie is going to do very, very well by all accounts. Probably killing of those amounts except, maybe, The Phantom Menace. The news has been saying it's advanced ticket sales across the country have been phenomenal. I'd be willing to bet that The Avengers pulls in at least $400mil. It seems a bit skewed to me that the only ones that do not expect this movie to absolutely obliterate anything else being shown right now are the ones who are sort of "Meh..." about the Avengers concept themselves. ;) This is a movie that fans have been waiting for almost as long as we have been waiting for the Superman/Batman movie. The Avengers will kill at the box office and get a ton of repeat visitors as well just like Twilight and Harry Potter. Everyone that says this movie is going to bomb, or simply not do as well as any other superhero movie has done clearly has made a drastic underestimation.

I don't see anyone saying the movie will bomb or not do well. But some are talking about this movie like it's the 2nd coming of Titanic. If you want to see a movie with impressive box office statistics, go look that up.

Avengers will make a ton of money. No doubt. But it's nothing all that unusual. Lots of movies these days make a ton of money. And Avengers has something else to help it - 3D and Imax. It used to be that $300m was the benchmark for a super blockbuster. With tickets prices and premiums for 3D and Imax, sky-high budgets, that's simply not the case anymore. 39 movies have made $300m or more at the box office. 12 have done $400m or more. If Avengers does more than $400m, I will be surprised. I personally, don't care as I'm not seeing any of it.:(

I've also got against The Avengers movie at all. I've seen (and own) each one of the movies leading up to this, and I'll be there opening weekend for this one. My only gripe is the tie-in at the parks. They fit better at Islands of Adventure. I think Disney using them at the WDW parks is a corporate sell-out.

Is the influence of Alice in Wonderland or Winnie the Pooh an example of sell out too?

Walt Disney himself "sold out" his park at every opportunity in the name of cross promotion. Davy Crockett anyone???

I should have been more clear. I have not seen anyone here say that it will "bomb", just that it will not do as well as other movies.

And even I would be surprised if The Avengers came close to Titanic. I'm not sure any other movie will ever hit that mark.

:) I guess I really don't care what it gross's either. I'm just going to go see it, see it again, and then go back and see it again. Then I'm buying it on Blueray and watching it on my 60" 3D plasma over and over. :D I have been waiting for this movie for a very long time. And when/if DC Studios ever finally greenlights a Justice League movie I am camping out in the theater.

I'm with you on that. I absolutely love the Avengers (even to the point where I would call myself that which I loathe hearing.... a fanboi.) and I am simply dumbfounded on this move by Disney. The Avengers have zero place walking through any Disney park. Maybe one Avengers attraction at DHS but that is pushing it. I agree that they are a better fit for DCA.

But Winnie the Pooh and Alice in Wonderland are staples of Disney productions. They are something that you go to Disney to see and expect to see. Not Marvel characters.

Both stories are NOT Disney originals, but the rights were purchased from outside companies / writers. We just associate them with Disney because of the amount of time that has passed. I remind you it wasn't that long ago that the Milne estate sued Disney for the royalties due.

Also, have you seen Spiderman on Main Street, because I haven't.

Maybe you missed my point.... Do you go to Disney and expect to see Winnie the Pooh or Captain America?

Things change.

I have zero issue with Marvel at Disney Parks so long as it is done right. UNI's agreement pretty much guarantees we won't see them in Florida anyway so I'm not worried.

First part, they've been there since the beginning.

Davy Crockett fit in perfectly with the theme of Frontierland. What theme of any park does The Hulk fit into?

There was a movie that recently eclipsed Titanic, and Disney is developing a whole area of one of their WDW parks around it...

We're talking about in terms of longevity and tickets sold. Titanic destroys Avatar on both fronts. Plus, 75% of Avatar's tickets sales were IMAX 3D.

Avatar was #1 for 7 weeks. Titanic was #1 for 15 weeks.

The version Stanton delivered was basically the same as shown in that promo. It was a great promo for sure but even that version may not have turned out the way everyone is imagining.

I enjoyed John Carter and I think that it *should* have been a huge hit. I blame marketing for it not doing better. They should have started with a campaign early on saying "Who is John Carter?" Then explain who he is, who the writer of the stories was, etc. Even a behind the scenes promo special would have been a great thing to do. When you spend that much on a movie, you need to get the word out.

Get serious. The promo was based heavily on the original Frank Frazetta art and descriptions from the book which Stanton openly said he would not be incorporating into his film. His version of the Tharks look nothing like the books. He made them super skinny and goofy looking to appease family audiences and don't get me started on how horrible the design for Woola is. He also made too many deviations changing the story which was completely unnecessary. At a visual level instead of making it look like a strange alien world like Paramount did in that promo reel he made it look bland and uninspired. The whole movie looks like it recycled sets and footage from Prince of Persia.

Did you really not understand what point I was trying to make?

I understood. I agree with 80% of what you said.

I just see everyone's post applying selective logic to the Marvel properties. Only Disney Originals belong in the parks. Only Disney originals fit...

My point is not only have we not seen their plans, we haven't seen something as inappropriate as Spider Man in Adventureland. Additionally, the things we think of as Disney Properties or Disney Originals are at many times also purchased Intellectual Properties.

No one is comfortable with them as a Disney standard, and I get that, I just think it can be done right. It can feel right. Time will help. Seeing the integrated characters done well will help.

For example: I can absolutely see Superheros as a part of something like New York Street at Hollywood Studios. I could see Iron Man saving the Tram car from destruction at Catastrophy Canyon.
