Restaurant Marrakesh

Well, I bit the bullet and made my lunch ADR for 1 pm at Marrakesh (after my Segway tour). A little apprehensive (I have just been diagnosed with Celiac disease), but definitely willing to give it a try! I've already had the dining reservationist note it on my ADRs and I know the chefs will bend over backwards to ensure my meal will be fabulous. So ... any lunch menu recommendations? I was thinking the kabobs :slurp:

I'm so sorry about the Celiac disease. That sounds awful. But as with many things, I've heard that attitude is everything, and having a positive attitude will no doubt help.

Be aware that the kabobs are marinated. Marinades are one of the often overlooked gluten sources. I would check with the restaurant first.

An alternative could be the lamb. It is cooked in natural juices.

Avoid the couscous; it is made from semolina.

Some dishes come with "seasoned" rice. I'd be careful of the seasoning. Herbs and spices are OK, but some "seasoning" may have gluten. Either ask the restuarant or see if maybe plain rice can be substituted.

Most of the waiters are actually Moraccan, so it might be difficult to communicate the "gluten-free" concept. It might be worth your while to try to communicate with the restaurant ahead of time.

Good luck, and have a magical trip to the World.

Thanks for the well wishes, KingStefan. After so many doctor's and specialist appointments, tests, and everything else, I'm just so glad to actually know what was making me so ill! It took exploratory surgery to get the right diagnosis as blood tests weren't showing anything. I literally dropped 30 lbs in a one-month period and that was over a year ago! I'm now gradually putting some weight back on and feel much better! No, I can't let the diagnosis bother me -- I have a 6 year old who loves pizza, pasta and all the good stuff, but there are alternatives and what he doesn't know just might make him healthier :animwink:

Exactly! This is a little off topic, but my mom used to use turkey burger in things instead of hamburger and we would eat it and were none the wiser, but the moment you told us it was turkey burger we were like "EWW, there is no way we are eating that!"
Just proves that he probably won't even notice unless you tell him.

Many times I will add ground turkey breast or ground chicken breast to some lean ground beef and not tell anyone. I'm a firm believer in not telling anybody what is in a recipe unless they tell me they are allergic to or can't have something and then I'll just say "nope, there isn't any of that in there".
If my kids knew ( the DH too) the ingredients to some of their favorite meals they would never eat them again.
