Resort Mugs

Can you use your mugs from previous years or do you have to buy new mugs each year? I always buy new mugs because I thought that was the rule but a CM told me that you can reuse them so does anyone know the official rule?

We still use the originals that we bought over 5 years ago... :) It doesn't matter, noone says anything.. although I have no idea what the real rule is...

(Our cups still have the old All Star logos on them!! )

We have bought some more since then though and do have some new ones so that we have a few extras :)

Even still you see people just going in w/ 32oz mugs of their own and just filling up whatever they have... kinda irks me, but oh well...

Well, way back when (you know, the late 90's  ) the Cm who sold me mine said that it would be good for future uses.

The way I figure it, Disney might as well continue with that policy. I mean, think about it....how many guests really cart their mugs back over and over? Also figure in how very little fountain beverages cost. Disney isn't losing anything at all by honoring the old mugs.

As for folks bringing in mugs from wherever - that's just tacky

Are you kidding? I'm in Alabama - tell me about it!!

I really can't even fathom that some would take mugs from just anywhere and fill them at the resorts. Maybe that's why Disney changed the policy - ya think?

The Mugs are supposed to be good at the resort they feature for the length of your stay. No one seems to care though if you use them at Different Resorts...or at a future time.

For the first time ever, we brought our mugs from last year at the WL back down with us two weeks ago. We didn't notice until we went to use them, that the logos and such were the same, but our "old" mugs had different handles.

We used them the whole week, and no one said anything, but one morning Disney Security was in the snack bar and I thought for sure I was going to mug jail. :lookaroun Luckily we weren't caught.

But next year, I think we'll just buy new mugs. I would die of embarassment if they suddenly started checking mugs and I got caught. It isn't worth it.

The "in"famous refillable mugs... Ahhhh....

Each time I've gone, I've bought different and new mugs (cause we stayed at different resorts...)... But honestly, who's going to check all the mugs?...:D :)

Seems to me that if anyone ever challenged you about re-using old mugs, you could just say that when you oiginally purchased them, it was with the understanding that they could be re-used on future trips. That said, I'm sure we've never hauled our old Port Orleans mugs along on later trips - we fly, and who wants to fill up the suitcase with that stuff?

:) Poted a thread about this in October before I went for my birthday. As My daughter and grandson were going in November, wanted to see what the policy was.

When I was there in October I asked several CM's and Cashiers about this. I was told as long as it is a Disney mug from ONE of the hotels you can use it at any of the resorts. EX. Allstar at Wilderness Lodge, Dixie landings, and etc.)

It is good forever and always refilliable. The only ones you can not use are the ones from the parks AND other mugs/cups!!! tsk tsk :(

Like the CM'S said it cost them a minimal amout for the soft drinks and it is a good policy-- keeps the guests happy. They said that they had not heard of any changes or a change in policy. They had thought about a change, one CM told me but then it was disguarded as the guests looked forward to this offer.

One of the few things that do not cost a lot. If you have more than two people in your party the drinks can add up---

Even though we are only three when we go it sure saves us-- especially with a 6 year old who changes his mind on what to drink in the middle of his meal--- Even though we do not take them back and forth and only use them when we come back to eat it really helps!! Much more to spend those few $$ on -- hummmmm

I do not think the Mug police will be after you if you use a different HOTEL mug. My daughter used our Port Orleans one at the All star this time and nothing was said. We saw other hotel mugs being used as well while we were there. Have to be truthfull -- never noticed them until we had a question about it.

Guess it all depends on how much $$$ you have for your trip if it is no problem, guess you can buy a new one each time. We have one from all of the resorts that we have stayed at-- If we go to a new one we will buy that one also. Like to have them for souviners-- but if you take the wrong one at leatst you know you can still us it :D You know how it is when your packing  sometimes!!

To all who are going -HAVE FUN!!

How Disney makes money

My sister buys a mug for her daughter, who doesn't like the fountain drinks. My brother buys one, loses it immediately. My mother buys one, leaves it in the room for most of the trip.

We bought our mugs at All Star Movies in 1999 (when it opened) and we stay there every year - We've used them every year and no one has ever questioned us. Frankly, I like the old logos better than the new - they're too "busy". When we bought the originals, I was told they would be honored at the SAME resort for as long as we owned them.

Just to chime in. There was a new sign in the Contemporary when I was there in October. It stated something to the effect that mugs purchased were only good for length of stay. But I have one that is no different from what is currently sold. I forgot to bring it. :(

Anyhow there was no visible inforcement of said "length of stay" policy.

Thanks for all the help, I have stayed at Dixie Landings (Port Orleans Riverside) on my past like 5 trips and bought a new mug each time from there, but I am thinking of now using my ones from last year.

i have read that they are good for future uses on many sites! heres what i do... i know were all fans but sometimes times are hard and you just have to cut corners. i buy a regular cup and just use that! although this year housekepping kept throwing it out and i mean every single day! finally like the day before i left i put it in the safe! lol. but by that time i had already spent like 10.00 on cups. and had no cup to bring home! lol. the mouse just bit me in the a**! lol:hammer: either way i doubt anyone working there will ever say anything about a new old or even just a plain old paper cup being refilled.:veryconfu
