True Story. I posted in one of the controversial smoking threads. It wasn't a bad post; but I was still worried because I had posted in the thread. I laid awake in bed last night at 2 am worried that I would get a little red box. Really stressing out about it.

How silly is that? I had to keep reminding myself that the chances are no one would care and if they did, a little neg rep would really not be that bad.

It's amzaing the thoughts that go through you're head when you can't sleep. . .

 That's ok, I gave out a red yesterday in the now-locked tour group thread and immediately felt so bad, I was sick to my stomach

Glad to see I'm not the only one who gets over-sensitive around here.

I've been finding myself wondering more and more lately about how so many people have such high reputations. Is there a lot of reputation plussing going on in Chit Chat or something? I don't go in there that often.

I think that could be a contributing factor. The more you post in all areas of the board, the higher the chance someone clicks on the scales.

I think if you post a whole lot, you got more rep (regardless of where you post).

Why doesn't MrNonacho have a large green rep train? He obviously knows what he is talking about. I trust him. It is wierd that that some members have gigangtic colonies of green boxes while others are still single boxed.

When I first saw Woody (the spider avatar I think) I wondered if red was bad or good. His contribution seemed to be helpfull in that thread. I didn't understand the meaning at first.

Maybe the system could display a little more information on mouse over OR hover so that we newbies can figure out what it means

Quite simply, it means he hasn't received enough points. Does this mean he's a bad poster? Quite the contrary. He's always been an excellent poster (probably one of the more intelligent members on this site). However, it just hasn't gotten as much love as he probably should. Inherently, this is why I find the system to be flawed.

Quality, not quantity is what counts towards a good rep.

If you post honestly, and answer questions to the best of your ability then you will gain a good reputation.

Post counts really do not matter. We have not always had the rep system and reading posts and seeing how people act and treat others is what gains my respect. Long before those little green boxes arrived I knew who I could trust for good info and who I couldn't.

Take your time and read thru various threads that interest you, add something if want. When people get to know you, your "true reputation" will be established.

I think it diminishes the purpose of getting to know someone and taking time to read posts. It seems like every time I click on "New Posts" there is someone talking about how many negative ratings they have.

I don't like it. I think this forum should be for discussing, not for politicing and reputations. The title under the user name, along with the post count should be enough to speak for themselves. "Self-policing" also degrades the position of Administrator and allows petty arguments.

But what can I say...I only have one "bar". :)

 Well, Steve (wdwmagic) sort of fixed Woody's reputation to fit his special needs

The more you post, the more opportunities people have to rep you, good or bad. I am far from any sort of WDW expert but I have a lot of green because I've fooled a lot of people into thinking I'm a nice person :D Is that a corruption of the system? Yes and no. I don't have any sort of insider information but I am also not one to cause a lot of problems. Some people would say that's worth something; others would disagree. It all depends on why you are here, I guess.

I agree with this, I don't believe they add anything to the site.

People learn for themselves who to trust on the board, it would maybe be useful for new users were it not for the ridiculous things they are given for. I haven't made an informative post on this website in over a year, yet I've currently got a reputation score of 83.

I'm as guilty as anyone else of giving out needless rep probably (all 3 times I've done it) but I honestly believe it has caused more problems than it has solved.

I like the rep system, when its honest and fair and people who leave neg rep leave their names and valid reasons. I think there's a lot of "hit and run" stuff going around, and I DON'T like that. While I think the rep system should stay, I think being able to see who SENT you the rep should be a feature that everybody should have. I posted in a thread about how not having premium didn't allow me to see who neg repped me, and since then I've been neg repped plently. Hence my signature.

EDIT: Just remembered another gripe I have with the system. Why is that when some people send you positive rep, it only goes up like one or two... but then when another more distinguished person sends you rep, it shoots up like EIGHT points. I think thats giving status to a job ie: You have many rep points, therefore your rep points count more than the others (newbies, none-frequent posters, whatever) rep points! Okay I'm done now! Really, I am.

Its just that I remember the days when there wasn't any rep, and those days were good...but I also see the reasoning behind the system too...

Maybe the Admin/moderators should only give people rep...as opposed to all the users...is that even technically possible?

Might be hard because it'd be hard to keep track of everyone's postings. They're only human

I like the rep system, but then again I wouldn't be upset if it went away. I also think a lot of rep. points are given based on popularity. And I do wish that I could see who sent me points, but I do understand if you don't want to change that to non-paying members.
