If it's hard to understand what is written in the boards, maybe one should not be on them.
You probably need to learn to agree to disagree... not everyone finds the same comments humorous, and not everyone appreciates sarcasm as much as some of us do, and those are no reasons to tell people to not be on message boards, they are even more of a reason to post on them. That´s just my opinion.

Ahh... but I do strive to learn to come to agreement, whether that agreement is mutually favorable or not! My opinion is that if you view things with attention to detail, then you will see the humor or sarcasm (or other tone) for what it was intended!

If you mention that it's hard for someone to understand the tone of a message, then a fair reply is they may need to work on that communication skill before knocking someone's reputation or continue posting. But, you are correct, continued usage will likely increase their ability to "read between the lines."

My entire reason for this discussion was that I thought it was pertinent to this reputation thread. It wasn't to create a debate with you (although it's a great way to understand everyone more), it was to shed some light on how everyone has a tendency to react before thinking. If they don't read / understand the meaning of the post, then they shouldn't utilize the reputation feature. I have been caught mis-understanding a post and while I may reply with a question, I rarely kick in a negative rep unless I know that the poster was trying to be negative. We can disagree about a topic without posting a negative rep point.

Another thing that people don't think about, myself included, is that you should take a poster's previous comments and history into account. DMC-12 has a posting history of great humor; therefore, I saw the title as pretty funny.

Now, if we can move this type of discussion over to Disney related topics, everyone on the board would be happier and we would all learn more without worrying about our 'reputation'. While we debated this topic, not one negative point was awarded by either of us. That's the way it should be! :)

Well said! I was too lazy to quote you, but you are right: "If they don't read / understand the meaning of the post, then they shouldn't utilize the reputation feature.". However, " you should take a poster's previous comments and history into account." - that´s kinda hard to do... there is a bunch of us who know each other from being on the boards a lot, but there are 10000+ members who don´t know us, so I think it´s better 'safe than sorry' ... many times we are misunderstood because who cares to read all our posts to know how we really are? better not give them the chance to get angry with us, you know? ;)

And yes, no negative points were given from any of us! There was no need! :)

Good point. I agree it's hard to take into account everyone's history, but if you visit just a little while, then you will start to see many people's style. I lurked for several months before posting and that was one of my reasons. I was able to figure out who had a good reputation before there was such a thing.

On the plus side, I just noticed that rep is not anonymous now. I don't know if this is just for premium members or for everyone, but I just took a look and found that every rep givers name for the rep points I was handed are displayed next to the rep posting.

what does a grey box mean? i have one that's not red or green... just sort of grey.

Grey means they didn't have enough rep for you... (most likely woody???)

wdwmagic guests don’t see who sends them rep.. but i hear premium members can see who sent rep.....
(I can see at every other v-bulletin forum... so Steve rigged it up like that i guess...Just like reader’s receipts to see if the person read your pm or not..)

Does this make sense…. (cause sometimes it doesn't to me..)

if you have green.. you can spread the rep either way.... if you have red... you cannot spread rep either way..... (and look at woddy.. he has improved... he used to have more bright red..)

rep points are fun
especially when you get one from someone who just THINKS they might have gotten a bad rep from you...even though you never gave out a bad one in your life.
lol
lucky it was gray :)

I asked for the negative reputation points and Steve was was very generous and gave me -1,000. I consider it to be part of the magic! :D

enjoy a repbump Josh

thanks rob-

another question...

do some members have more of a pull for just one rep?

like, i could have sworn that i had 61, and just checked, there was one new comment, and i have 70 points...? is there a way to see more than five at a time also?
thanks for all of your help!

If I'm not mistaken the amount of points given (or taken away) depends on a few things... the length of membership, the state of their rep and possibly a few other things as well.
