Report of Harry Potter park being a done deal for USF

I'm in agreement with most of you. If it does happen, let the games (healthy competition) begin.

I LOVE Harry Potter, and I like USF, but we aren't going this trip because I felt better to take a relaxing week doing everything at WDW than spending the extra money to go to USF and try to squeeze that in as well. If a HP themed land comes to USF, it would be a yearly staple for me the way Disney is.

Well all I hope this does is make WDI create some cool a** rides. Some innovative thrilling ones, because Im not really a HP fan so I wont be going anywhere during my orlando visit besides disney.

I'm curious to see who the target audience for this project will be. There are relatively few family rides at US or IOA. But, would teenagers want to go on rides that aren't too scary for young kids and have a height limit below 54"?

If done right, something with Harry Potter could be simply amazing. There is just so much possibility and I hope Universal really goes all out and delivers another state of the art experience.

Disney needs competition. If people start skipping a day at MGM to head off to UO for a ride on Harry Potter, Disney will have no choice but to finally invest in it and turn it back into the park it once was.

Somebody is going to have to start a new rumor...I will! :D

Disney is in the talks with Zack Snyder about making an attraction based on the movie "300" it would go in the volcano in Fantasyland with a monorail station to every park and hotel. It will also have a show with Ninjas and Pirates fighting in a gladiatorial arena. Eat your heart out!

That'd be like tearing down the Haunted Mansion just to build a Meet the Robinsons ride.

ImagineerBoy, haven't you even seen Robinsons yet? Going to keep poking you about that. That whole movie screams Carousel of Progress replacement anyway. And there's already rumors about that Tommorowland will be rethemed a bit more towards the movie in areas anyway.
Despite all the so called "ZOMG Disney characters in a Disney park. This is blasphemy and madness. Also Sparta", Disney still has some sanity in placing attractions in areas that people see as a stretch.
I do admit though Laugh Floor is totally in the wrong place, maybe even the wrong park (A Comedy Club would work better in MGM, wouldn't it. They could get rid of Sounds Dangerous and the problem's solved.)

Laugh Floor definitely should have gone to MGM, but MGM continually gets screwed of late...

Harry Potter forcing stop on WDW projects?

So this means that the following WDW projects will be stopped then, right?
  1. DVC Hogwarts Villas
  2. Rework of proposed AK Beastly Kingdom exhibits to replace: Cornish Pixies, Whomping Willows, Fire Salamanders, Phoenixes, and the imported Hungarian Horntail (dragon).
  3. Meltdown the 500,000 Harry Potter chocolate frogs to be sold at Magic Kindom and re-mold as Goofies Candy Company Pirate Coins.
  4. MGM's new Voldemort's Character Dinner & Fantasmic package.
  5. Halt work on the Slytherin wing addition in Haunted Mansion.
  6. Cancel the Muggle's Party hard ticket event at Magic Kingdom.
  7. Restructure the proposed Quidditch Arena at Wide World of Sports.
  8. Change the "Lunch with Dumbledor" package back to "Dining with an Imagineer".
  9. Replace the planned "Forbidden Forest" for 2008 EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival with another butterfly exhibit.
  10. Seal the portal at the transportation center that leads to the "secret" Hogwarts Monorail.
Sorry....it had to be done! :ROFLOL:

Just a word of warning do not believe anything you here or see as rumor about Harry Potter. Warner Bros can not just sell th rights to it for something like this because they want to. JK Rowling has final say over everything as she owns the rights. If you want to know anything about the Harry Potter franchise cheek JK Rowlings official site at http://www.jkrowling.com/ or look at Muggle - net and The Leaky Cauldron as they both have cantatas at both the British and American publishers of the books as well as WB. One other thing to consider JK Rowling personal nixed a deal with Coca Cola that would have had the students of Hogwarts drinking Coke in the great hall scenes, so something like what is being talked about in this forum is highly unlikely.

I also want to point out that I am only offering my opinion on this and pointing you to were more "official" information may be found. I do not have anything to do with WB or the publishers of the books, I am just a fan of them and I just don't like seeing people misguided by wrong information.

I trust Corrus...even if it isn't something I want to hear.

From what i have heard they are just transforming the Lost Continent in IOA into the Harry Potter area and re-themeing all the shops and stalls near the Sinbad show to look like Diagon Alley, which IMO will be pretty cool compared to the way it is now, it doesnt seem to fit into the park, the rest of IOA being all based on comic books, cartoons , Jurassic park and Suess it didnt fit but now it will!

Heading for the great escape.
Its someones rantings on line. Id rather wait till a credible source publishes some news before getting excited.

A whole park themed on Barry Spotter does seem kind of risky to me in the first place.

Completely true. This is all wild speculation at this point.
Personally, I have been unable to completely confirm the story to my satisfaction either way.
Still trying.

Word has it there *IS* testing in progress of some sort of new ride system over at Uni. Word also has it that this system is NOT related to whatever is going to replace BTTF.

For now that's all I can say.

I know this might be taking things too off topic, but it's been years since I've been to Universal.

What has been replaced/removed?

I know Back to the Future is being replaced by The Simpsons (booo)

I've heard the Alfred Hitchcock exhibit is gone (true or no?)

What did Shrek replace?

I've heard Twister was shortened?

And why on earth did they keep Twister yet dump Back to the Future? Ugh.

No wonder I prefer Disney. I hate what Universal is doing.

Oh ... and I know they replaced the Wild West show with Fear Factor.

Good point, but I would argue that WB doesn't even have the ability to sell the rights. They licenced the rights to make the movie, the rights to the characters and story are still hers.

I didn't see a thread on the topic yet, so here you go...

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/exclusive-plans-for-worlds-first-harry-potter-theme-park/

The article basically says a deal has been made to build an entire Harry
Potter based park at USF. Who knows for sure if you can believe this one, but it's the first article I'VE seen that is trying to confirm something other than Jim Hill, and we all know about him.

I guess it's a pretty fair bet the potential for a Disney tie is shot. Not that I have a problem with that.

If this is true though, and it happens... It could be about the only thing that might scare the heck out of Disney as far as competition.

The report is wrong in saying that Universal will build an entire park around the franchise. The are building a single land (or rather, retheming one) inside of Islands of Adventure, where the conversion could be easily done. The change would only truly affect two or three of the attractions in this land, leaving the most popular attraction untouched.

will this ride replace the old (but still was great) Back to the future ride?

Back to the Future is being replaced by another simulator-based movie. What what I have been told, the previous reports of it being replaced by the Simpsons or the Fast and the Furious have been false.

There's another thread on this in the other forum.
My only question: Where's it going. The article says it's going into a previously unused part of the park. Not much vacant room at IoA other than a couple small parcels on either side of Jurassic Park. The Studio park has a big spot between MiB and BttF...maybe it's going over there. If they are being held to the same requirements as Disney was working under with JKR, they need a pretty large pad.

It won't be taking up a previously unused area, but a single land in Islands of Adventure that holds its own theme, not inspired by any franchise... :animwink:
