Does your family think you're crazy?

We're going with my inlaws this year (we took my MIL last year, but FIL wants to go this time). However, my parents/grandparents, all think we're totally nuts for going again this year.

I wonder what they'll say about next years trip....hehehe

Yes! We always get the "look" from people when we say we are headed back to WDW. You know, that "you're a member of that Disney cult" look.

I agree that people either get it or they don't. So many people I talk to say their WDW trip was so hectic, so tiring, too much standing in line, etc. When I question them, I discover that they stayed off property, tried to cram too much in only one or two days, didn't do their research, have never heard of FP's, had no idea you could reserve a table in a restaurant and went during the hottest months of the year. Yeah, that does make for a miserable trip. I always offer to plan their vacation if they want to go back!

I also think that so many men, in particular, feel like it's not "masculine" to like WDW. We are fortunate that our minister is a DVC member! We attend the largest church in our small town and our minister is a big jock and baseball coach. He talks about WDW all the time and openly professes his love for it. I think some of the guys are getting the picture that WDW is "cool".

My sister-in-law goes to Myrtle Beach every year for 2 weeks! That's her choice. My choice is a WDW vacation hands down! You can just about have every experience you want in WDW. But, people at work think I'm nuts! But, they go on cruises every year, so what's the difference?;)

Right! Even though I enjoy the relaxation of Myrtle Beach, without a doubt we prefer spending our vacation $$$ at WDW!

I completely understand. I have some in my family that get it, my brother-in-law's family goes every year. My mom gets it, but my sister and sister-in-law don't. They keep asking when are you going to go some place else. This is coming from two people with no kids, both who financially can go anywhere they want and yet my sister-in-law and brother haven't been on a vacation probably since their honeymoon in 2002. I hate trying to explain to them that we love it there and for a family with now three kids (11, 8 and 1) I can't beat the price or the experiences we have in Disney. I have had many people say why don't you rent a house at a beach and relax, Disney isn't relaxing. Well to me, renting a house means keeping a house in order, cooking (yes you can go out), and trying to constantly find something to entertain my 3 kids, isn't relaxing. I also grew up at the shore and I HATE the sand. I took my 1 year old once this summer and it was a complete nightmare. The stress of the waves and the undercurrent with my two older children that never want to come out of the water, was very stressful. Plus being from the shore area I know how much it costs to rent a house, pay for food, and daily entertainment can be, it is not cheap.
As others have said everyone is different and enjoys different things, to each their own. But I do get a little ticked when people question our yearly trips to Disney, especially since many of them have never been.

friends and family members just roll their eyes at us, but i have nowhere else I would like to vacation. we have vactioned on the beach twice - just not as much fun. Watching my child enjoy herself - even as she gets older is just so worth it!
I think you are a disney person or you aren't. Live and let live. But we do get teased.... ALOT. especially since we are currently planning our next trip ;-)

At this point, most people know how we are & are done making their comments. I think there's some surprise that we're taking our daughter at 1 year old this fall. Everyone recommended we wait until she's potty trained and will remember the trip, etc. But we love Disney, and we're going for our own memories too. Some people get it, and some don't. That's okay, everyone has their "thing" that they love.

I was just talking to my sister about this yesterday. I am planning on getting married there in August of next year and we will have family and friends joining for the celebration. We came to the conclusion that there are 3 types of people- Non-Disney people, Disney people, and people who say things like "I really hope Barak Obama gets re-elected so that the Hall of Presidents will be administratively accurate when we are there and be sure to be open during our visit". Guess which kind of people she and I are?

Definitely. I've been to Disney World every year for the past 14 years (except for last year when I went to Disneyland!) and I often get the 'you're going AGAIN!?!' response. When I was at school everyone thought it was really cool and all the other kids were super-jealous, but now that I'm 20 people just think it's weird. But I really don't care. I know I'll continue to go to Disney World and Disneyland in the future (at least once a year, if posssible!), so it's something I've just got to get used to! I would never just go somewhere else just because other people disapproved - why let narrow-minded people spoil your fun! :D

Great question!! Ya everyone pretty much thinks it is insane that I go as often as I can. My mother does actually think there is something wrong with me!! I wish she would just come along for one trip! I know she would catch the Disney bug!

Anyways...I love the place and I am going to keep on mystifing my parents, friends and collegues!!:D

My family don't think I'm insane...they're all very jealous and want to come with me! However, my workmates give me 'the look' when I say I'm going on holiday to WDW! But ... I visited 40 different countries last year, they were all amazing and enjoyable in their own way but WDW is still my number one holiday choice!

Yes! We've joined DVC and every year my whole family says, "you're going there again?!?!" The other day we were discussing APs and my mom said, "do you really think you'll go EVERY year?!" To which I replied, "of course!" They just don't get it.

Oh boy this is a good question. DH thinks I am a bit over the top, we go once maybe twice a year. (I give a beach vaction every year, he gives me Disney World) He recently told me after the December trip he wants to take a break. He wants 1 full year of no Disney World, I am planning my first visit to Disney Land for 2013! ;)

Yes! We get this a lot, because we have gone multiple times in the past year. We won't be able to go as much every year (although at least ONE visit will be mandatory!), but we were very fortunate that it worked out this year. Our family and friends think we're crazy, and most of them just don't get it. One friend told me that taking her kids on a Disney vacation is her worst nightmare, and another told me there is "no such thing as Disney magic". To this, I just smile, turn up the volume on my Illuminations soudtrack, and continue counting down the days until I go back! :D

I gave up a long time ago worrying about what other folks think of our Going to Disney World trips each year. We do other things in a year too...go to the beach (Just got back), and Memphis, TN, etc. It's funny because the ones who comment are usually the ones who have never been.
