If Harm opens this year, Disney only really has two attractions that are going to open. Those being TRON and Guardians. I’d imagine they would announce new additions at next year’s D23 but that is far off. Not having a D23 and skipping a year may be a problem for them down the line.

They like to announce a new addition at D23 it opens by the next D23 and the cycle continues. Since it is looking like (at least I hope) TRON, and Guardians should be open sometime next year, once the new additions are announced at D23 we will be left with not much for a year or maybe more. Since given Disney’s construction speed, it takes them forever to complete any given project.

I count Play! and the Galactic Starcruiser as seperate categories.

EDIT: Sometimes, projects will take two D23’s to finish (Star Wars, Guardians, Rat, etc) but announcements and openings sometime line up with D23.

Even after being away from WDW during the pandemic, I now see no need to dedicate a full day to Epcot on my June trip. A new ride, even a clone, would've changed that.

Still a way better track record than WDW Pro.

That's a leap. Universal could easily put something in the now vacant Blue Man Group theater for 2022. It's also weird to say "Universal has nothing in the pipeline except the first new theme park in Central Florida in 22 years."
Isn’t epic universe on hold indefinitely?

I don't know about "less serious" as Florida in general has been open since last year. Is there really going to be consequences for one park being less serious than the other? Before, I would agree to this but now I feel like it's all for show and that Disney is just trying to avoid negative press from all the negative press they have been getting non-stop. On the other hand, Universal is just being unproblematic and being under the radar so.
No denying Florida has been doing questionable shenanigans throughout this whole crisis, but Disney has chosen to regulate themselves and is choosing to stick with it.

This summer is shaping up to be a flex period between pandemic and normalcy. Personally, I think this summer is a good time to take social distancing down a notch. I'm perfectly fine with masks remaining until 2022, they don't bother me at all.

The bottom line is everyone has a different definition of what they are comfortable with, but this definition is not constant. I haven't gone to the parks since this began and don't plan to go until after I'm fully vaccinated.

But regardless of whether or not Disney is holding themselves to a higher standard just for show, they're still doing it.

”Soon” like, “your wife is having contractions” but not ”soon” like “your wife’s water broke and I can’t believe you don’t know that.”

Its a good time to start painting the nursery with rats and baguettes.
Throw out your paint. It was all a dream. She’s not even pregnant.

You‘re not even married.

But never forget the dream.

I’m also not convinced that we won’t have copious amounts of previews before the official day.
I 100% agree. If they have a big grand opening ceremony at Rat, I wonder if they will even have a significant ceremony in MK.

I definitely think the grand opening date is more a grand ceremony than an actual opening, but I'm no insider, so what should I know.

And to think, in an alternate, COVID-free universe, all of the big three attractions could be open by the time Rat is officially open.

I’m also not convinced that we won’t have copious amounts of previews before the official day.
But we’re not in COVID free universe. We’re in a pandemic which people conveniently ignore.

I would expect previews in September definitely, and June/July greater than 0% chance.

It's seems like it would be easy to have previews for AP as a "reward" for them sticking with the parks - which would also help to lessen the rush once the ride opens officially. Heck, you can even have the creperie open too for previews with "special" deals. I mean, if they are determined to avoid having significant lines due to social distancing, given APers a chance to ride before it opens in earnest really is the best method.

And it wouldn't be tough to see them also having some sort of DVC previews or after hours thing. They know there is a bunch of discontent among DVC given how tough it is to use points with the pandemic and showing some goodwill in the form of something that is very cheap to offer would help to promote how they do "special" things for those DVC owners.

I mean anything is possible but it would silly to me to not cash in on some easy goodwill with something that is otherwise just sitting there unused.

It's weird cause I didn't say that & I didn't specifically point out Universal. All local theme parks seem to be halting future construction projects after finishing their current ones, even Seaworld/BGT is holding off on opening their new coasters according to rumors.

I was talking about actual rides but maybe I should have been more specific. Yes we can throw a show or parade anywhere to pass time. As of now, there are no plans or ongoing construction. Soon will be the first time in a very long time that there is no ongoing construction or deconstruction at either Universal park. 2023 isn’t far, so it’s not much of a leap construction doesn’t start soonish.

If Disney didn’t have a history of stretching out projects way longer than is required simply to spread out capex, even in great economies, then it would be much easier to accept that COVID is the sole culprit of these delays. But in reality, COVID only maybe delayed them by 3 months and then Disney went into full drag feet mode because they had a scapegoat. Of course this isn’t saying the pandemic isn’t serious but if Disney was really concerned about cast member safety then they wouldn’t have opened the parks during the summer period and they would have stopped work for much longer. But it’s their park and their choice to delay them however they like, but let’s just not let them scapegoat COVID, when they themselves only use it when it’s convenient.

EDIT: I don’t know why that quote is attributed to two people. Glitch?

Well now. Didn’t this put the cat amongst the pigeons.
I thought I saw a putty tat??
Seriously, I am not shocked at this at all. The fact they stopped work on Tron(or will) and delayed other things.... it was inevitable they needed to move this to add to what is coming the 50th. I find it more telling folks that I have not heard any official announcement yet for Harmonious or Space 220 restaurant.... just sayin
