Check out what I found today in one of my drawers!!! :D..

Talk about back in the day... that's as far back as I go in Disney history though (circa 1988.... one of my first trips..) Does anyone know what was there prior to Birthday land? or was there anything there at all?

BTW, this is a pin I think they gave out, or you had to buy, not sure, I've got two.

Was is Mickey's Starland or was that after Mickey's Birthday land?

I loved being on the train and having them play "We're on the way to Mickey's Birthday Land".

I also really loved the cupcakes you could buy from the cart in Birthday land.

there was nothing there before that, that is why the "land" is kinda off the path, and if you look at the map, all the lands are in a circle but that one!!

ah good ol' 1988. I was only 7, but it was so cool.

does any one remember minnie moo? she was a cool cow.

I have memorabilia around somewhere .....but wasn't Mickey's Birthday Land built for the 15th anniversary party? They had some cool shows in the TENT, all of which I have on video tape....so don't make me have to go get them!:D

I think I read somewhere on the net that it was for Mickey's 60th birthday, and was originally meant to be a temporary thing. And of course everything on the internet is true. ;)

By the way, I loved that show too! Of course I was tres petite when I saw it, so if anyone has any pictures, that would be fantastic!

I remember Mickey's Birthdayland! how fun! If I am not mistaken it was built for Mickey's 65th-I still have a pin from then and I had a cool, very 80's vinyl jacket that said "Mickey's 65th" on the back-hehee. I was 13 :) It looks like I am the old fogey in this post! LOL

I love WDW nostalgia! I wish I would have saved a lot of the stuff I had form my trips!

Mickey's Birthdayland was built for the Mouse's 60th (1928 is generally regarded as the year of his "birth"). I remember seeing all the "Mickey's 60th" ads on TV that year.

It was there the last time I went to WDW before last fall. I was never exactly sure what year we took that last trip, but it must have been in '88, making me a mere lad of 7 at the time.

Aah, time flies...

Next year will mark Mickey's 75th.

I was just born in 88, but I remember one of the shows. It might have been from starland. There was a rocket ship in it and it had the rescue rangers:lol:

Ok I have PICTURES at home of the Birthday show. When I get back from my mini-road trip of seeing two Ben Folds shows I'll try to scan them in and post em up. Anyway the show was definitely1988-89 because I went in Feb or April of 89. When it became Starland I remember going there for the WDW 20th Anniversary show..................

We were sitting in the front row, and it was during that whole "Surprise!" promotion with Roger Rabbit, and he was going to pick someone out of the audience to win some prizes if they threw a beanbag into his mouth. Well he points in the direction of my family. I thought he pointed at me, but my dad pushed my little brother out of his seat (I was 8 and my brother just turned 6 so my parents were making still like it was his birthday and what not). Anyway my brother threw the beanbag into hole. What does he get? He got an XL "Surprise!"/Happy Birthday WDW shirt that has Roger Rabbit on it PLUS this hat with a Roger Rabbit plush doll on the brim. This thing is really cool and I think we still have it somewhere I'll check and try to take a digital pic of it. I bet it's worth something now.................

Anyway, they changed it to ToonTown after DL got their ToonTown. I wanna say WDW changed the name in 98, not positive though. Well that's my little ditty for the day.

Mickey's Birthdayland was so old school. I remember the huge tent with the cut-outs, and the huge kitchen set Birthday show. The house was totally made of straight lines (except for the columns out front). The rest of the place was dressed up like Duckburg, and had all those little storefront to disguise the "temporary" tents. I like the new Toontown Fair incarnation, though I wish it was a full scale toontown with Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin (I wish they would build that full Maroon Studios complex at the Disney MGM like I had heard)
