News Reimagined Toontown coming

A picnic in the park is always fun. But who brings a picnic blanket to Disneyland? And they certainly won't allow you to bring in a basket into the park full of fried chicken and potato salad and lemonade for this mythical picnic.

You can, however, buy a mediocre cheeseburger across the way and a $5 Coke and then... sit on the hard plastic grass?

This whole Toontown Park, Presented by Monsanto really has me scratching my head. It's tacky looking, and obviously not ready for prime time in a park that charges $150 to get in.

Maybe... um... maybe they've got a full set of cutesy picnic tables and benches ready to spread across this blank swath of AstroTurf and they're just waiting for the big grand reopening of Mickey's Toontown in six weeks to debut it? Maybe they wanted a big open space to use for massing Virtual Queue groups or something, so they purposely left it empty and ugly and awkward looking for operational efficiency on Runaway Railway's opening weekend? Maybe???

Let's hope that's what's going on here! Fingers crossed! 🤞
Hey, maybe they still have these amazing Costco picnic benches they can use here?

Oh wait, they may be too detailed and themed to New Orleans Square!

Who knew these represented the height of theming and guest comfort at the time? Now apparently just laying on the ground on astroturf is a magical Disney experience!

I recommend you check out the music from the Mickey Mouse/Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse shorts. They’re really good!
Not sure what the Toontown loop will end up including, but in my opinion, some of these would fit really well in Toontown.

Agreed- I think this music is some of the best stuff Disney has done in years. The tone of the shorts are really fun as well and I hope they continue to make them. As for the music loop- I have my hopes up that there will be a mix of modern music with classic Toontown tracks in the area loop. Not worth it to get upset over the speculated music for a land that still hasn’t re-opened. Maybe they’re playing Mickey Short music because a ride based off of the Mickey Shorts just opened…

It’s funny to read the anger people have towards the modern style of shorts and use the term “Ren and Stimpy style” as a derogatory slur. I too wish Disney had the capabilities of making more animated shorts in the style and quality of the 1930’s and 40’s cartoons, but in reality they laid off all of their 2D animators and basically deliberately killed the medium and ceased to pass down the knowledge of the last 2-3 generations of hand drawn animators. Now it looks like there’s a handful of 60+ year old 2D animators on staff and hopefully they’re able to train a new era of artists before it’s too late….

In my opinion, these shorts are really well made and are high quality for what I assume is a television animation budget. TV animation artists jump from studio to studio like freelancers- nobody is able to train for 5 years under one of the 9 old men to learn the “Disney Style,” unfortunately. Like I said earlier, I’d like to see more classic looking animation too, but I blame the Disney company for not investing in their artists, and don’t blame the artists of these shorts. I’d take a ride in this style over a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse CGI ride any day!

For me it’s more the fact that they went “You know what’s more iconic than Three Little Pigs, Thru the Mirror, Steamboat Willie, Minnie’s Yoohoo, Tortoise and the Hare, the Skeleton Dance, and the Donald Duck theme? These random background tracks from the shorts we released on YouTube!”

Like, why not both? You can’t even argue that they “fit the land better” because they maintained ToonTown’s original “1930s cartoon esque aesthetic” with the newer buildings and the new ride queue. The Rudish aesthetic is confined to a few props and the ride itself.

I certainly enjoy a few of the newer cartoon tracks, but they aren’t as memorable as “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?”. It’s like they have little to no respect for the company’s classic legacy (at least the people picking the area music, cause the queue says otherwise).

As much as I love Roger, I think this concept would be a worthy replacement…

A great idea, but now with projection mapping the key to both that would make the dark rides too similar.

Than we would have one color MRR and an Oswald Trolly Trouble.

Mickey and Oswald are more alike than they are different. Especially in the "crude" and early toon humor.

Oswald is small doses. Like Epic Mickey fun.

It would have been more fun to just do that instead of cloning what DHS has.

Obviously I love Oswald (given my username). But something would feel wrong about kicking Roger to the curb when his film was the Genesis of “ToonTown”. I would love to see the Trolley revived as a Peoplemover type experience, featuring Oswald (as tribute to his second cartoon). I’m not sure how they’d find space for it without the land going under another year of construction for the full land.

Toontown is not yet fully reopen, but we get the glimpse of the new look of Toontown on wide scale (tell by Carlos i believe) once the land officially reopens on March 8.

For those of you who don't speak SoCal, "Heavy Winter Storms" means that in the month of January there were 7 rainy days in the first two weeks of the month, with a total of 6.4 inches of rain falling for the entire month, with daytime highs in the 60's to low 70's, winds calm to light with brief gusts on January 26th of 25mph.

Here's the January data for a weather station about two blocks west of Disneyland.

Haven't seen the land in person yet, but the "mountains" appear to be a dramatic improvement over the sad, faded, peeling mountains of the last several years.

Also, I imagine these string lights add some nice ambience. Has anyone seen the land at night?

Here's some pics from night, wished there were more string lights hung throughout.

I really loved the Seasonal Mickey Mouse shorts that was released on Disney+ between 2021 and 2022 (especially "The Wonderful Autumn of Mickey Mouse" and "The Wonderful Winter of Mickey Mouse) since they make for a perfect viewing depending on the season. The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse that's exclusive to Disney+ (a follow up to the prior Mickey shorts) are much longer in length and manages to have a longer storyline. I really love the short that was focused on The Evil Queen from Snow White trying to destroy Mickey Mouse and her many failed attempts.
