I think that's the part that feels jarring (and a bit the same for Frozen Ever After). These insertions don't even feel true to the characters. It's a very superficial use that sort of missed the mark on who the characters are. But, I know the masses will love it... Mourn Epcot dead... Yadda... Yadda...

Except for that perceived shoe horn, I think it's a great add, and BBQ is a great idea for this space - which I've thought since they first introduced it at Flower and Garden years ago.
We need REAL patriotism!

I’m curious, are the Muppets being used in anything outside of Sam’s face on the menu? I think it was a little weird to shoehorn the brand into this (especially since they had Great Moments in MK), so I’m interested if the Muppets were being used in any real capacity here.

As mentioned, there are displays referencing four Muppet pit masters

There's four pit masters. Gonzo, Janice, Bobo and Rowlf.

This is the Gonzo display https://www.wdwmagic.com/dining/reg...020-regal-eagle-smokehouse-overview/37431.htm and https://www.wdwmagic.com/dining/reg...020-regal-eagle-smokehouse-overview/37432.htm

Can see an overview of the displays here https://www.wdwmagic.com/dining/reg...020-regal-eagle-smokehouse-overview/37418.htm

As previously mentioned, it is very light touch theming (similar to PizzaRizzo).

From the Jim Hill podcast (yes, yes, we know, huge grains of salt) he indicated as to why Sam Eagle is here, is because evidently an imagineer was just a big muppets fan and tossed out the idea, and as it went up and up the chain for approvals nobody turned it down. I don't know how accurate that story is, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. So less of a force IP in there and more just someone's idea who happens to like the muppets and wanted to see more of them in the parks.

Everything about it looks perfect. The inclusion of Sam Eagle is perfect. Disney has been changing his character to a true patriot over the years, he is not like his original character. The food looks great, I can't wait to eat there. I would love to see them bring Great Moments of History over to Epcot since it's stories fit better with the American Adventure rather than the Hall of Presidents. Yes they are an IP, heaven forbid, but the Muppets are definitely American.
