Extension panels?

You mean the platform on the right in your second photo?

That's the lighting platform. Can't really remove that. It'd be a bit dark.
No, if you look at the front of the barge you can see that the front wall is arched, they since extended that wall about 2 feet taller.

Your second photo?

That's the pyro launch platform.

Does it really matter though? The barges are only out late afternoon and then it's dark.
It doesn't matter at all, really.

Universal tries to theme their barges and it just ends up looking all the more intrusive and tacky. It draws attention.

I have noticed in allot of recent videos allot of love from the audience and fans of Illuminations. One video fans were screaming when the inferno barge went off and no they weren't horror screams. I also noticed a not of oos and ahas with the lasers and people clapping to the drum beats. It's great to see a true Epcot Center get so much love. We have lost allot of great attractions but Illuminations is sure a true Epcot classic and lives up to the old Epcot Center standards.

Just wondering, it seems the AA has taken quite the backseat as far as the new lasers are concerned. Usually for 'Chaos' and 'Order' it has them, but then for all the other segments, (Art, Culture, Celebration...) the don't use them. Watching from center stage (World Showcase plaza), it seems pretty awkward to have just the low angled side lasers during those parts. I know for air traffic the lasers need to be halted, but it seems they were much more involved from AA prior to this upgrade. For the record, I'm not saying they're never there, I'm just saying it just seems to me, that the AA lasers have not been nearly used as much as the island ones. Any ideas why?

There was a permit filed today for installation of a "communication system", the work area starts behind the Japan pavillion, goes cross the lagoon connecting the three islands, and finally ends up backstage behind Norway. I am guessing this has something to do with the Illuminations improvements.

Yep. That's for the lasers in the lagoon.

Any word on how this is progressing?
