Refillable Mugs

We purchased a couple of resort specific refillable mugs which I believe are not sold anymore. This is probably a repeat question but can I still use those mugs or do I need to buy the new 2007 WDW mugs?

I asked a CM in April if we could use the mugs indefinitely or only on this trip and she told me indefinitely. As an example, she mentioned a woman who visits every year for the past 10 years and still brings in her old Dixie Landings mug.

I was always told that they were for the current trip only. They even change the color of the mugs periodocally for this reason. Although, I could be totally wrong.

The official answer is that they were for the length of your previous stay only. It's true that many people bring theirs back year after year, and the ethics of that have been debated here countless times. I did notice a recent poster mention that they are now cracking down on this, and not allowing any of the old mugs to be used, but I can't confirm that.

"Officially" the mugs are only refillable for the duration of your stay in the resort for the visit when you bought them.

Most, if not all, CMs will turn a blind eye if you choose to re-use them.

I prefer to buy new ones each visit. They make nice souvenirs of our trips. It was better when they sold resort-specific mugs, but even with the more generic mugs I still buy new each time.

These threads tend to get into a lot of moral issues about whether or not it is theft re-using the mugs on subsequent trips, I prefer to let people make those judgements for themselves.

While I personally do not care one way or the other i this debate here is a picture of the note on the side of my PORS mug. Use your own judgement as to what to do.

Resort-specific mugs

I bought 2 of the new generic mugs at Pop last week. We moved to Coronado for the last half of our stay, and it still had its own "Pepper Market" mugs, not the generic ones. I bought one of them, as a souvenir and to stay on the right side of the law.

Has anyone else seen other resort-specific mugs recently? I don't know why CSR would be the only one still with them. Maybe resorts sold the old ones until they were out of stock, and there was just a larger inventory of CSR mugs. But I'm just speculating here.

We always brought ours back year after year. Though this year we did buy new ones since they have changed all of them to the same thing :hurl:. I was disappointed because I wanted to get my hubby a WL mug (where we stayed).

The mugs at CS are larger than at the other resorts. Not sure if this has any bearing on not using the generic mugs there.

Just curious, what do the Coronado Springs mugs look like--are the three caballeros characters featured on them? I'm considering moving up to the mod resorts for my trip next year and will be disappointed if their mugs are generic YOMD.

I *think* that just about every resort has switched to the generic ones and I *think* it will be continuing next year and may go on after that.

They are Pepper Market mugs, basically reflecting the decor of CS's glorified food court. You might try calling the resort directly and ask if they know whether these mugs will be continued or replaced eventually with the generic mugs.

The last time I checked, Disney charges $14.95 for the refillable mugs. Similar mugs are available in quantity from the Oriental Trading Company for $2.29 each. I think it's safe to assume that Disney pays even less considering the volume they must buy; so for argument I'll say $2.10.

A close friend that works for Pepsico explained to me that each refill of the mug costs Disney less than 3 cents, so for argument we'll say three cents even.

So, $14.95 less the $2.10 cost of the mug leaves $12.85, divided by $.03 equals 428.3. If like most visitors your resort stay is about 7 days and you refilled the mug twice each day, you would have to stay at the resort 30 1/2weeks before Disney would even start to loose money on the deal.

By then Disney would have made so much money off of you at the resort and the parks, they couldn't possibly care about loosing the 3 cents per refill.

The mug is more like $11.99. And I don't think the 3 cents is right either. That's the same cost my restaurant manager told me back in 1977. And in addition to the cost of the soda etc. Disney pays people to maintain and clean the beverage stations.

 I loved the fact that every resort had different mugs. I have a small collection of WL, Comtemp, CBR, and Poly mugs. I like getting the mug even as a sovenier. They also hold up really good to every day use. I've been using my WL mug about twice a week for the past two years, and still looks great after using the dishwasher on it. My wife has been using her CBR mug about 5 times a week since Jan. and it still looks new.

We have also used the mugs as gifts. If we were down in WDW and we knew a friend or relative who was coming down after us, we have purchased a couple of mugs as a present for them. We did this for my sister who was coming down in May of this year to stay at the WL. So while we were staying at the CBR in Jan, we bought a couple of WL mugs for her birthday present before her trip.
