Refillable Mug Policy

Hi everyone. I did a search for this but nothing really answered my question. And if there was a thread already Im sorry but I couldnt find it. My question is...I have several Mugs from different resorts and for years I have brought them back to the resort and used them again and again...I heard a rumor or read it somewhere but I forget....that now you have to buy a new mug everytime you go and that they have this policy written on the new mugs now. I havent been down since Nov 03 and we stayed at Ft. Wilderness and didnt have mugs but I know in the past I had brought ones back and had no problem. I was just wondering if anyone has been down recently and noticed a change at all. Thanks in advance for any info!

McDonalds, for instance, is comparable. They pay for their Coke products also, but, at a HUGE discount.
I can see why McDonalds would pay for the soft drinks. CocaCola has nowhere near the exposure at McDonalds that it does around the WDW Resort. With McDonalds, CocaColais just on the menu. With WDW it's much more involved, with sponship of attractions and announcements insied attractions.

It depends how you define "free". I think it's very possible that in exchange for the extensive advertising that Coca-Cola gets from it's heavy presence at WDW, that the drinks and vending hardware are provided in exchange. So it could be viewed as Disney selling CocaCola advertising space, but rather than recieving cash, Disney receive unlimited soft beverages in return. I am sure this kind of arrangement suits both parties very well, should this be the case.
It could very well become a "wash" in the end. Personally, I am just happy it is Coke and not Pepsi. :)

It is written on the mugs that you have to buy one everytime, and the resorts i have been to recently don't check it. It should be fine if you used newer mugs.

It terms of what you just said, very true, BUT, McDonald's is everywhere and with almost every ad for Mickey D's there is a coke symbol.

As an aside, I just noticed your slide show beside your name, it is awesome!!!!
How did you get those pictures?

What would be better is for Disney to announce the thirst stations at the resorts to be free for their guests to use. Period. End of story. They could chalk it up to being a guest amenity as it basically is now then nobody would have to police for eligible cups...not the guests and not the cast members. It is just free. Nobody would have to argue over which cup is ok to refill. That is basically what it is anyway. It is just the principle everyone is arguing about because Disney has not expressed the fountain drinks as free, no strings attached to a resort mug. :)

Stealing

If you consider the couple of extra drinks I get in a week stealing, so be it. But with the amount I pay for all coke products during the week at the parks, miniature golf, pleasure island, etc., I don't consider it stealing. For me to be told that I steal es me off. I never steal anything, and to me that is self RIGHTEOUS!!! Consider me stealer if you will but I will not go to my grave feeling that way! With what goes on in the world, I think that is pretty sick!

What a GREAT idea!!!! I like that one. BUT....how would they know that the guest was at that resort? Or, did you mean resort guest Disney wide?

Which part of "for ME" did you not get? I was defining my beliefs for ME and no one else.
By the way the word is Thief, not stealer.
I suggest you go back and reread my post and try to comprehend it.
BTW, do you expect free software because you pay a lot for a computer or free gas and oil changes because you pay a lot for a car? It is the same thing. Why not just say I will do what I want and stop trying to justify it? There is no justification anywhere for breaking rules.
I said before, I don't care what anyone else does, I simply prefer to follow the rules (except for the speed limit on the highway).

Not to start debating again but actually my computer came with Microsoft Office, Quicken, Norton Anti-Virus, three different CD-rom games and tons of other cool crap such as photo editors and movie makers that you would normally have to buy. As for free gas and oil changes for buying a new car. I just bought a new car back in July and they gave me a month of free gas and a card for my first two oil changes free and after that every other one being free. They even run my car through their car wash whenever I take it in even if I don't need any other service. :D

Thought I'd let you know in case it changes your views. ;)

Yes, they most certainly do pay for the Coke products. What they make on the items is not important. The tee shirts they sell probably cost 2.00 each, so, does that mean I should not have to pay what is marked on them because they are making a HUGE profit on them.
But you can wear the shirt each time you visit Disney. You don't have to purchase a new shirt at every visit. Well until Disney changes that policy to increase profits :D Just a little humor.

I think this is a little outrageous over the use of a cup, don't you? People are entitled to thier belief system. Debate is healthy but a squabble is not going to change anyone's mind about a subject. :hammer:

As an afterthought, Disney knows very well that guests use these cups on more than one visit. If Disney was not okay with this, they would discontinue the bottemless mug promotion, period. They are still making far more in profit than if they didn't have the program. We all know that they quickly end something that doesn't produce profits. The program benefits Disney despite whether you use or abuse the system.

Yup I think you are right. Faced with:

1. Guests paying $100 and upwards per night and bending the rules on refillable mugs that uses soft drinks that are essentially "free" to Disney

OR

2. Guests staying offsite

I think Disney are going to go for option 1.

Exactly. There are priorities to the company. I think that if Disney wants me to pay $350 a night, then the my "theft" is really a minor issue.

LOL, nope it does not.

Dee owns a computer business and you would not believe the amount of "we spent a lot for this computer, what can you give us?"I hear. Well lets see, you got MS Office, Windows (pick a version, we have been at it a long time), Norton anti virus and we threw in bundled games.

You found a nice car dealer. I got one free oil change, which made me very happy, it was not expected and my first dent will be fixed at no charge (not trying to cash in on that one, LOL).

LOL, assuming it lasts long enough. ;) In all reality, you don't have to purchase a mug each visit either. You can buy them one at a time.

You are absolutely correct and I expect we will see the demise of this program before long.

Good point, but, I doubt Disney even factors that into the equation. I bet telling someone that they cannot refill their mug year after year will not deter those that want to stay on site from staying there. I really don't think that the refillable mug program is all that big a lure to staying onsite. If people wanted to stay off site they could get free breakfasts and kids eat free programs which are more of a lure than soda.
People chose to stay onsite for a bunch of reasons, the least of which is refillable soda.
