You know I love you all.😘

Even though you’re all wrong!

I got more important things to do than argue on the internet now.
So you won’t answer the question I asked about whether you believe Disney’s opposition to a law favored by the majority of people in Florida and enacted by their duly elected government justifies the RCID legislation?

Which is really the reason why these worst case scenarios about intentional sabotage won’t come about.

And likely why Disney has stayed silent and not indicated legal action, yet at least.

We all know “why” this happened but FL walked back their initial bill to tiptoe the line of legality, until Disney can show harm I’m not sure they can legally prove this is political retaliation. We all know it is but it’s harder to prove it in the courts.

That’s true but, to use your example, regulations and restrictions on window size or shape are formed in response to local resident/landowner concerns about new developments not fitting in with existing structures.

That doesn’t apply in this case because Disney owns almost all of the land and any nearby structures are virtually guaranteed to be their own. Secondly, Disney is already mindful of making sure new structures conform to their surroundings.
No, they are not always formed in response to issues. There are also often battles between neighborhood groups and elected officials on such matters.

You’re also getting stuck on specifics of examples intended to show the broad authority offered to such bodies. They often don’t have reasons beyond “we don’t like this”. It’s a process that elsewhere drags down the speed of projects and there’s nothing that stops it from occurring here. It’s not that a specific power could be invoked, it’s that they have broad power that can be employed in a variety of ways. If a local government can hinder a project over something like windows being too big then hindering it over something like water management concerns would be easy.

Disenfranchisement isn’t a harm? Sidestepping constitutionally required home rule isn’t a harm?

Does anyone remember when the most 'spirited' debates here were about AC in gondolas?

The good old days...

The Disney vs Universal threads are equally as spirited. We love arguing “our side” in America, whether it’s politics, theme parks, or states we’ll defend our side to the grave.

So many posts I can barely get caught up.
People going to be big mad when the CFTOB or whatever it is decides fireworks are bad for the world and bans their use in the district, 'cause they could........

The amount of misunderstanding here is unbelievable.
A few things to start. Reedy Creek Improvement District was not Disney's private government. It was the local government, created by the state, where the landowner's get to vote on the governing body. Reedy Creek perfromed the normal functions of the county government. What this did was prevent Orange and Osceola counties from having to pay for this high bill through their taxes. Disney did not get tax breaks, they had higher taxes due to being the majority landowner.
What this bill has done, is remove Disney's voice in their local government by removing their ability to vote for the RCID Board of Supervisors. This would be no different than if DeSantis had said that he was no longer going to allow the residents of Orange County vote for their Board of County Commissioners and he was just going to appoint them. Every resident of Orange County would be out their protesting.
This is litterally taxation without representation. Because, Disney used their First Amendment guaranteed right of free speech.

it may be time for Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista to significantly raise their taxes and take on a regulatory role over their city land. Start a police department and fire department. Maybe build a few roads. Take over the things that Reedy Creek was doing.

They can’t. The flow of power has changed. The cities no longer delegate power the the district, they are now subservient to it.

"but Disney invited this..."
"Disney should have stayed in their lane..."
"but there was an election..."
"yeah but now Disney will be forced to pay for their debts!"

Any other nonsensical distractions I missed that don't counter anything you said, but still make people believe the facts don't matter?

They have representation, the Governor and Senate are all elected postions, that is their representation. It’s hostile representation but it’s representation.

They don't have local representation. They have a local government body with the power to raise taxes that is made up of unelected appointees. That's unique in the state of Florida, and is the very definition of taxation without representation.
