They don't have local representation. They have a local government body with the power to raise taxes that is made up of unelected appointees. That's unique in the state of Florida, and is the very definition of taxation without representation.
The CP cast members from the American Pavilion will be taking tea from the Twinings shop in the UK Pavilion and throwing it into the World Showcase Lagoon from Friendship IV.

Nightly at 7pm. Dining Packages available.

Nothing can be assumed until we see what happens with these new appointees. I had hoped they would be donor figureheads, and once DeSantis takes off to run for president, this would fade in the background. However, he appreciated the opportunity to create a board with clear political ideology. Bridget Ziegler is a co-founder of Moms for Liberty and her husband is the vice chairman of the Florida Republican Party. Ron Peri is a Baptist preacher. Martin Garcia is a republican attorney and big donor to DeSantis PAC. Both Aungst and Sasso are republican attorneys. Clearly partisan. How much influence will they have over WDW?

People's priorities are alarmingly out of whack. Those who are outraged by Disney's decision to make changes to certain dark rides are the same individuals who are totally at ease with, and even welcoming of, government overreach. Apparently, such people consider what Disney does to its own attractions a graver concern than how politicians treat those they disagree with.

It's all very unfortunate and disheartening.

They have no representation in the local taxing authority that imposes a special, higher tax rate on the property within the district.
Exactly. If the new board is considered "representation" then that means that they represent everyone in FL since the only way to change the makeup of the board is to change the person responsible for appointing the board members - but even that doesn't work because the board can only raise taxes and approve/reject projects within RCID. It's no different than having the governor appoint a city council and giving it all of the same powers to tax and approve projects that the previous council had. If you don't have a vote then you aren't represented. The only one represented by the new board us the governor - and the board has zero impact on him or his money.

Setting aside the politics for a second, for arguments sake, lets say that none of board members will be problem. It still leaves the fact they don't appear to have relevant experience. That in itself causes people to just freeze and creates a situation where things just grind away. Where stuff that should be simply procedure and signed off quickly, gets stuck in committee hell because someone is uncomfortable about something and then it needs to be discussed. The danger I see here isn't necessarily in big, bombastic action and statements (except perhaps during election season) but a car that is used to be driven at 60 mph now being driven at 40mph because the person behind the wheel is uncomfortable on these roads. We already gripe about how long anything takes to get done, and I just see more potential roadblocks. At some point for any form of government to function effectively and efficiently it needs to have qualified people who believe in its function. If you don't have that, and then go the other way and intentionally introduce inefficiencies into a system, no one should be surprised when it performs poorly.

Hmmmmm. Maybe, just maybe, some creativity might occur and sayyy build overhead solar panel arrays over the multitude of parking lots the property has thus providing shade and harvesting solar energy for power and not further destroying green space. Just a thought.
Legoland Florida did a nice job with the solar farm creating shade for the preferred parking area and not destroying any forests or green space like Disney's did for theirs (and no CDD needed). I heard it was a little more expensive to do it that way to cover the parking lots. It will be interesting to see if the new board pushes for projects that might be a little more expensive but actually be more beneficial overall to the environment, traffic flows through the district, etc. I'm pretty much expecting no noticeable change at all.

Do you see more California license plates in Florida? Where do you think they came from? California went from having the largest influx of new residents of any state for the last 40 years and now they’re contracting. Even Hollywood left. It’s because of high taxes, draconian politics (you don’t hear us all call it the “Peoples Republic of California” for nothing) and a squashing of free speech. I had a good friend (😉) who worked for a major telecommunications firm in Irvine, CA have to go through “sensitivity training” for saying Merry Christmas to his co-workers. You want that here? Keep it up and you’ll get it.
Actually, the example you gave of your friend is because some uptight jackwad got their panties in a bunch because someone said Merry Christmas. These are the same type of people who go off because someone did NOT say Merry Christmas. The company required the training so not to get sued by the idiot who complained.

And I imagine this is the argument that would be made if push came to shove regarding the new board’s actions. They may not be in Disney’s immediate interest, but as a state body they’re responsible to the state and feel their decision is in the interest of the state and, most importantly, it’s children.

This may get removed, but I just got back from a wonderful three days at Disneyland Paris and was very pleasantly reminded of all the things that made me love Disney parks in the first place and why I don't really have much desire to return to Walt Disney World. Everything from queuing to maintenance to the generally positive atmosphere was a real throwback to a time before reservations, Genie+, creaking old attractions, etc.

Coming home to this thread just reiterates my feeling that I'm happy to leave Florida to the Floridians. I'm sure a lot of people would be aghast at the amount of piercings and tattoos sported by the Paris cast, but at this point in time the live and let live attitude over there feels a lot more "Disney" than whatever is happening over in Orlando at the moment.

Piercings and tattoos are fine with me as it goes to individual choice and freedom of expression.

As for WDW, its fine you will not return. WDW will remain the number 1 vacation destination.

It's certainly going to be interesting with what happens. I don't think Disney is going to move WDW, despite what some of the doomers are saying.
