Legoland Florida did a nice job with the solar farm creating shade for the preferred parking area and not destroying any forests or green space like Disney's did for theirs (and no CDD needed). I heard it was a little more expensive to do it that way to cover the parking lots. It will be interesting to see if the new board pushes for projects that might be a little more expensive but actually be more beneficial overall to the environment, traffic flows through the district, etc. I'm pretty much expecting no noticeable change at all.

Disneyland Paris covered their parking with solar panels also, probably just a size factor, WDW has a ton of land, the other parks don’t want to use expansion land on non park projects.

This may get removed, but I just got back from a wonderful three days at Disneyland Paris and was very pleasantly reminded of all the things that made me love Disney parks in the first place and why I don't really have much desire to return to Walt Disney World. Everything from queuing to maintenance to the generally positive atmosphere was a real throwback to a time before reservations, Genie+, creaking old attractions, etc.

Coming home to this thread just reiterates my feeling that I'm happy to leave Florida to the Floridians. I'm sure a lot of people would be aghast at the amount of piercings and tattoos sported by the Paris cast, but at this point in time the live and let live attitude over there feels a lot more "Disney" than whatever is happening over in Orlando at the moment.

I'm in almost the same boat, except I naturally now look even further East to Tokyo Disneyland to get my Disney Resort fix. I've lost track of how many times I cancelled and re-planned that last trip to Tokyo for 2020, but it's back on my radar again for later this year or Spring '24.

The only difference is the Disney Look is still in total control at Tokyo and the CM's there always behave as good as they look!

As for Florida, I found this last paragraph in an otherwise slanted AP article released today to have a refreshingly good point about RCID...

"The creation of the self-governing district was instrumental in Disney's decision to build near Orlando in the 1960s. The company had told the state it planned to build a futuristic city that would include a transit system and urban planning innovations, so the company needed autonomy in building and deciding how to use the land. The futuristic city never materialized and instead morphed into a second theme park that opened in 1982." -Associated Press, February 27th, 2023

How is it a good point? It has absolutely nothing to do with why DeSantis took control of the district.

It's certainly going to be interesting with what happens. I don't think Disney is going to move WDW, despite what some of the doomers are saying.
The idea of moving WDW is, in my opinion, a non-starter. If this new arraignment truly becomes a hindrance to the company, they'll look for a new operator for Florida and start cashing the licensing checks.

It's a very valid point, one that seems to have been lost in many discussions, about why the RCID was created in the first place and why it was given the unusual autonomy that it was in 1966.

I found it to be a good point that seems to have been lost lately: The reasons why RCID was created in 1966 no longer exist, and never will exist.

I don’t think that’s a possibility either, they’ve fought with CA for decades but never gave up control of (or stopped expanding) DL. Unless the new board makes it impossible to run WDW I don’t see them giving up the billions in profit they make there.
