Then what was the point of appointing them?I really don’t think the board will be hostile.

Other districts have governor appointed boards, right? I feel like someone posted that here once...
From my point of view? To provide more oversight compared to what is in place now...Then what was the point of appointing them?
Why?Having looked at the appointed Board members, I find it hard to envisage them doing anything that will benefit the environment.
Legoland Florida did a nice job with the solar farm creating shade for the preferred parking area and not destroying any forests or green space like Disney's did for theirs (and no CDD needed). I heard it was a little more expensive to do it that way to cover the parking lots. It will be interesting to see if the new board pushes for projects that might be a little more expensive but actually be more beneficial overall to the environment, traffic flows through the district, etc. I'm pretty much expecting no noticeable change at all.
How do people who don't have any relevant experience provide real oversight? From my point of view? To provide more oversight compared to what is in place now...
My post is about why I would make this particular change. Not about why Florida did or about the experience level of these particular board members. How do people who don't have any relevant experience provide real oversight?
Can’t disagree with that, but they’ll do what the Gov wants and that’s what he’ll campaign on, and what this whole circus has been about from day 1.Even if they aren't hostile (a big if in my opinion), there's little evidence to say they are qualified.
Fine. From my point of view? To provide more oversight compared to what is in place now...
Fine.
How are any of the 5 people appointed even remotely qualified? What is relevant about their professional experience that makes them suited for this.

What oversight was lacking before? What was happening that shouldn’t have been? What powers were being abused? From my point of view? To provide more oversight compared to what is in place now...
This may get removed, but I just got back from a wonderful three days at Disneyland Paris and was very pleasantly reminded of all the things that made me love Disney parks in the first place and why I don't really have much desire to return to Walt Disney World. Everything from queuing to maintenance to the generally positive atmosphere was a real throwback to a time before reservations, Genie+, creaking old attractions, etc.
Coming home to this thread just reiterates my feeling that I'm happy to leave Florida to the Floridians. I'm sure a lot of people would be aghast at the amount of piercings and tattoos sported by the Paris cast, but at this point in time the live and let live attitude over there feels a lot more "Disney" than whatever is happening over in Orlando at the moment.
How is it a good point? It has absolutely nothing to do with why DeSantis took control of the district. As for Florida, I found this last paragraph in an otherwise slanted AP article released today to have a refreshingly good point about RCID...
"The creation of the self-governing district was instrumental in Disney's decision to build near Orlando in the 1960s. The company had told the state it planned to build a futuristic city that would include a transit system and urban planning innovations, so the company needed autonomy in building and deciding how to use the land. The futuristic city never materialized and instead morphed into a second theme park that opened in 1982." -Associated Press, February 27th, 2023
The idea of moving WDW is, in my opinion, a non-starter. If this new arraignment truly becomes a hindrance to the company, they'll look for a new operator for Florida and start cashing the licensing checks. It's certainly going to be interesting with what happens. I don't think Disney is going to move WDW, despite what some of the doomers are saying.

Which reasons are gone and no longer exist? The reasons why RCID was created in 1966 no longer exist, and never will exist.
