China sucks…Eisner and iger’s allegiance to them to procure cheap sweatshop made toys is a huge error…

…but I don’t see how it applies with this issue?
He had to find something to complain about after Disney acknowledged that they can take on the power of the state, but they realize normal people wouldn't be able to... so he made it about.... China??

Yep thats what I'm thinking. Anything to help them out and make it clear to everyone involved who the bad guys are in all of this.

Imagine you're the owner of Basin. You've made your case, talked about the impact on your business and employees and a board member ignores your plea to not raise taxes...and says they'll raise taxes.

All Disney has to do to help win the PR battle this will become is announce it will lower or suspend the rents of any store owners.

DeSantis really should've just taken the L and moved on.
My understanding is Disney tried to give him many opportunities to take and claim a “W” and move on after it became clear that RCID wasn’t going to be able to be dissolved.

But he wanted to look stronger. It’s hard to believe he couldn’t have foreseen that the route he took would lead to Disney fighting it with everything they had.

He's not after a W, he's just trying to show he's "fighting."

Today's actions have not hurt his political ambitions one iota.

Getting sued by Disney is a credential as far as he's concerned.
You are correct that it’s about attention.

But he has no “future”…his warts have been shown in droves. He’s a low skilled copy of Chris Christie…and that’s worked like a charm

DeSantis wins 2022 Florida governor’s race by largest margin in 40 years. I live in Florida and every one I know loves the Governor and the job he is doing.

Guessing you have a pretty tight circle of friends.

I know people that are fanatical about him and a whole bunch more who are incredibly unhappy.

Just a reminder about that margin: it's from an election where 46% of registered voters did not even turn out to vote so the idea that the margin means anything is really silly.

There's no "mandate" here.

But maybe this'll be a lesson to people come next election as to what happens when you are apathetic during election cycles and let zealots (from both sides) try to decide things for you.

should this swing in disney’s favor, it’s a great promotional selling point.
“walt disney company…you just won your lawsuit against governor desantis & the state of florida. what’re you going to do now???”

I'm not sure how much of that is due to Disney fight. I'm sure some of it is, but he's done some other things that are not popular with the majority of Republicans.
When it comes to donors I have no doubt that’s the chief cause. Cooperate interests look unkindly on politicians who are anti cooperate.

Whether Florida's actions were retaliatory in nature would be a question of fact, not a question of law. If the trial court finds that the actions were, in fact, retaliatory, the current SCOTUS would rule those unconstitutional 9-0. First Amendment cases win left and right at the Supreme Court, whether it's religious liberty, speech, or a number of other things.

Extraordinarily unlikely it gets that far though.
I doubt there’s a legitimate issue of fact here that survives summary proceeding. The governor admitted to all of this in his speeches and his book!

You know what's funny?
Can you think of some other country in which the government uses its power to chill speech?
UK
France
Sweden
Canada

We are getting way off topic though. China's offenses are not for this thread, other than many businesses like Disney overlook their offenses because "money." But again, this doesn't really help to move this particular conversation along, as we all should be aware of those issues...

I actually think a conservative judge is more likely to rule in favor of Disney on the contract issues. I don’t think it’s a slam dunk case that would be purely political.
I almost added this to my post but second guessed it because so many conservatives no longer uphold conservative values. Based on ideology I 100% agree, I just don’t have much faith anymore that ideology and doing the right thing will override politics.
