Disney losing RCID would be the best thing to happen for them financially. They'll no longer have to be saddled with millions of debt as they can just simply hand the debt over to the counties. Disney holds all the cards and people with a brain know it.

Guess what that means for taxpayers, though....

They're discussing eliminating all districts created prior to 1968, which includes public libraries, water management, fire management, etc

Paywall bypass:

Includes the Reedy Creek Improvement District: Here is the House Bill (Senate Bill is identical): https://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sect...umentType=Bill&BillNumber=0003C&Session=2022C

Expect amendments from somebody (I won't presume either party at this point) to exempt WDW.

At least with this current legislature, there has been a trend where virtually every bill with the ardent support of the governor, like this one, will pass. The only question at this point seems to be if Disney will back off their pledge to stop donations to Florida politicians and try to buy enough "nay" votes to save RCID.

Talk about blatant hypocrisy and favoritism. “These things are bad! Except these ones!”

“‘I am announcing today that we are expanding the call of what they are going to be considering this week,’ DeSantis said in The Villages. ‘And so yes, they will be considering their congressional map. But they also will be considering termination of all special districts that were enacted in Florida prior to 1968. And that includes the Reedy Creek Improvement District.’”

At this point I don't think they care. Disney holds all the cards repeal or no repeal. Hell investors don't seem to care.

Yep, that was the point - to showcase what they're eliminating, just to spite Disney.

They're tying it to the 1968 FL Constitution. Basically, they're saying "Any special district that pre-dates the 1968 FL Constitution is dissolved." Not coincidentally, the RCID is one of those districts.

Isn’t The Villages also a special district? Why would he announce it there? I feel this is all just a scare/authority tactic. And if it comes to pass and I was in charge I’d move every possible role out of the state that didn’t need to be here.

Out of curiosity, how many of these districts exist? Besides RCID?

I wonder how many of these will not get replaced, seeing as quite a few are in areas of the state the governor isn't fond of or have names that suggest regulations the governor also isn't fond of

Depends on when The Villages was created. Count on amendments which will carve out exemptions. Look for an amendment that exempts the RCID. Also look for that amendment to be blocked.

Yes, The Villages is composed of multiple Community Development Districts with many of the same powers that Reedy Creek Improvement District holds. The difference is when they were created but it highlights the blatant hypocrisy of this issue. The Villages tends to vote Republican.

Funny how the removal of special districts doesn't include The Villages.
