News Re-Usable Bag Price Increases

Which proves it was a money grab from the start. They've been using the same Disney Parks plastic bags at every park in the US for at least 5 years. Truly green recycleable items should be simply designed, and as cheap as possible, while still functional. Which doesn't mean putting different artwork on a lot of them.
No, it just proves that rabid Disney fans will create a market for anything, and Disney won't miss out on every opportunity to monotize it. They would be stupid to do otherwise.

Just got back from Disney last week (June 16) and every purchase whether at Epcot, Magic Kingdom or Disney Springs was put in a standard plastic disposable bag. I can't think of one instance they didn't just automatically do it. We came home with at least a dozen bags after combining some things on site before we left. Had to be at least 20 bags in our possession. Never really thought about it until now. We didn't go to Wilderness, but did buy things at all of the Monorail resorts and got the standard free bags. The only thing we really noticed different about this trip were the annoying paper straws.

I thought this was a decent article on reusable totes from a few years ago.

Yeah, I think they would have stayed a dollar if people didn't start collecting and eBay'ing them. Are people buying the SW:GE ones in mass quantity? The ones I see aren't priced that badly, but it's not like I monitor the market closely.

Maybe we can blame both Iger and the resellers for this? What about Shanghai or ESPN?

Yup, typical environmentalist idiocy. Science and data don't matter, it's greeeeen!

Well, it's more unintended consequences, in my mind. I use the cheapo reusable bags at my grocery and i've gotten hundreds of uses out of them, so in my case I'm doing 10-20 times better than if I used disposable plastic bags and still going strong, though it might only be 5-10 times better if you consider that I always reuse my disposable plastic bags at least once.

So it would have worked out for the better if everyone were more like me! Haha! (What a terrible world that would be, though, my wife says.)

If Disney really cares about the environment they would give them out, not sell them. This is virtue signaling just like with the plastic straws.

Bingo! This.

I didn't mind the dollar price point. I bought several, they're very cheap "souveniers" and I actually like the bags. While now $2+ ... I'm probably going to pass more often now. Way to go Disney. You had folks very willing to buy them at the original price point. SMH. How soon before they're $5?

My last trip I just didn't buy anything, so no bag. At this point I don't need another overpriced Disney t shirt or junk (and if I do I'll get it on Etsy or the Disney outlet store.)

Disney's influence on my trip planning:

Parking Fees = don't bring a car
Bag Fee = Don't buy the crap :)
AP increase = rent the DVC points and go somewhere else.

At the rate they are raise prices I'd say this time next year they will be $5

Did you by chance read the article?? About 26 uses of Disney’s recycled bags will be equivalent carbon emissions, plus it will eliminate the waste from the disposable plastic bags. I take mine to the grocery store or elsewhere at least twice per week and so after a year that’s 104+ uses... they are still sturdy and I have no need for liners in cans. Just dump the can into your waste bin and rinse it out if need be. Don’t be non-environmental just for the sake of going against the flow. I think had you read the article the take away was avoid cotton reusable bags, which is not the case at Walt Disney World.

THis article is faily anti reuseable bags, and even it is WAY off on the 26 uses. I'm sure it is trying to say polymer bag production gives more carbon emissions than some reusable bags that aren't polymers. but MANY are, or at least plastic coated. And they will all go in the same landfill as mass/volume, and the reusable ones are absolutely more than 26 times the weight and/or volume of disposable ones.

Then, even if you only use the disposable ones a second time, which I would assume the vast majority are, the reusable ones then need to double their life.

A VERY small number are used as much as you claim yours are.

I'd also like to know if you think tap water is free to make, as are sewage treatment plants.

I'm still asking and nobody's answering -- who is carrying reuseable bags back into the theme parks?

From what I'm reading on this thread, I'm not even sure it's a thing at the theme parks. I'm still seeing reports of people saying they're giving out disposable bags at WDW parks. No disposable bags at the Disney Store. Not sure about DLR.

Still bags in May.
My last trip I just declined the free plastic bag and stuffed the merch in my backpack. Yes, after paying. Now I would gladly pay for a properly themed SW:GE bag. Supposedly at the DL opening they were using the standard Disney Parks plastic bag. Epic immersion fail.
We did this our last visit about 6 weeks ago, and yes it was all in plastic bags.
