"Rapid Fill" Mugs Coming to Walt Disney World Hotels

Anyone else miss the brewed ice tea they stopped selling 3 or 4 years back? Quick serve locations used to sell brewed iced tea. Then they all switched to that pre-mixed Gold Peak nonsense, which isn't as gross as other mixes, but certainly isn't brewed tea. (A few locations still have it, and most table service locations still have brewed iced tea).

I find it interesting that they've finally decided to upgrade their coffee across property with the Joffrey's contract, but decided to switch to lesser quality tea?

When I was a CM working at Cosmic's we definitely brewed the tea, and we also had to dump it after a certain amount of time. We also had to dump the coffee, a la Starbucks coffee of the day. Cleaning the Cosmic's ice tea machine was fun, it has to be cleaned in its entirety at closing. Definitely a chore.

More than likely you are correct. Disney probably had thousands upon thousands of those mugs produced as it would decrease the production cost per item. If all they are doing is adding some sort of RFID sticker to the mug, then the mug design doesn't matter, so it's more beneficial to them to sell through as much stock as they can before changing designs to maximize their profit per mug.
I thought they said the rfid was embedded in the cup that was why you can not put it in the microwave. If it is a sticker that you can remove that would be better so at home you can take the rfid off and use it in the microwave.

Interesting. So it definitely sounds like some labor savings is what they were going for. The tea (and I'm sure the mix they currently use) cost next to nothing.

Couldn't have been that, even though I know it was a joke (and a very funny one too!). The design is "new"...it has the wonderful Rapid Fill logo. I think that is the only thing I despise about this change, the name. It's like adding flames and a giant spoiler to a Honda Civic to make it go faster.

You can put it in the microwave but the chip won't work anymore.

ok took me awhile but I've finally read all 32 pages. From what I can see, for my family these mugs are pretty much worthless. Good thing the only way we would get one would be free with the dining plan because I would not buy them. And even getting it on the plan I am not sure how I would even use them.

If I read correctly you can not use them in the parks so why carry it in my backpack all day just to use them at my resort when I can just head up the my room, open the fridge door and pull out a can of Pepsi out of the 12 pack I brought for the time we are there. We also have bottled water in the fridge. After walking all day at Disney I just want to go to my room, not wait in line to fill up my mug. Plus I can make brewed Ice tea, once cool put it in the used water bottles and have cold tea ready for the next day.

IF we did use them, more then likely we would share 1 for Dear Hubby and I and Daughter would drink out of her's and then fill the one we didn't fill up right away to take back to the room. But that still sounds like too much standing when I can go up to my room get a drink and then get ready to soak in the hot tub at the pool.

Ya'll can keep the mugs, I will bring in my water and Pepsi and Tea and relax in my room after a day at Disney.

We were at WDW from July 21 to Aug. 3. Originally we were at POR but do to a major room fail we were moved to AoA. Both resorts had the soda machines w/the scanners but neither resort had the mugs w/the chips. We visited the water parks twice on this trip and both days we encountered so many 'soda scammers' it was crazy. We bought two mugs to share and they had the stickers that you scan to activate the machine and then you have a very short window to fill the mugs. The scammers would hover around the soda machines and as soon as you would finally get your barcode to scan (they were AWFUL took forever and many people had to get CMs to help) the scammers would fill their soda before you could get your mug filled. Once you knew who to look for you knew how to position your body to block the scammers..but seriously who wants that stress on vacation?

We didn't get the resort mugs for a few reasons: same old design already filling my cabinets at home and for our family of 5 $75 is a lot of money to plunk down on soda. Even though we were there for two full weeks it was WAY cheaper for us to buy our water, soda and powerade and keep it in the room.

Did the scammers say anything? I agree with you on the water and powerade. I use crystal lite.

I cannot picture how they could do that. Can you explain please?

The water parks use a different system don't they?
The water parks use a larger mug that has a barcode sticker good for the day only. You scan yours, the fountain is activated and any of the options can be selected/dispensed at a given time, allowing the scammers to piggy back off your bar code.

I assume Disney did not think of this or thought people would not think of this? Or there will be a fix in the future for this?
