Bought ponchos ahead of time for out frist trip in Oct 2001. We've brough tthem with us on every trip since (6 or so) and have yet to even open them. Always forget to carry them into the parks so we just get wet if it rains.

That's one big advantage to staying with DVC though, clothes dryer in the room! hehehe

I'm really not a fan of ponchos. The only time I've ever worn one was as a CM during parade/Wishes duty only because I was in the rain for such a long time with no chance at shelter. So it was either suck it up with the CM poncho or get sick from being wet for many hours. Also I very much dislike when people wear ponchos on the water rides. It's a water ride; you're supposed to get wet!
Don't lie, Beth... I heard a story about you and a poncho! ;)

I go sans pancho. It usually only rains hard in the summer, and then I'm thankful for the wetdown/cooldown. Clothes get wet - I go on air conditioned ride. Aaaah... refreshing.
For shoes in summer - I wear teva sandals, so my feet don't stay wet for long.

Umbrella is like carrying a lightning rod down here. No way I'd carry an umbrella.

For a little shower I don't bother. When it's belting down then I will. As much to protect the camera kit as not wanting to walk around in wet clothes.

Same for me. Even being used to the near constant drizzle in Seattle, it's nothing compared to a hard Florida downpour.

Is it 5:00 yet?
I wore mine on Kali River Rapids... I didn't feel like getting soaked. Plus my bag didn't get wet either...the center thing is always too packed for my stuff..

It's always been my dream to visit the parks on a rainy day. Not a random-downpour-here-and-there type rainy day, but a consistant-not-too-hard-but-not-too-light type rainy day. Where there's enough rain to drive people out of the park, but not enough to make the day unbearable.

When this day comes, I will certainly be buying a poncho.

when i was a kid my mom made us wear them and i didn't really mind. i kept it as a souveneir so it wasn't a total loss. nowadays, i think i'd only wear it out of desperation, or to tie around my waist on a water ride so my bum stays dry. :D

I carry one with me in the parks. I buy the inexpensive emergency poncho at Walmart for $0.88. I've never used one at WDW even though when I was there this past July, it rained every afternoon/evening, just not hard enough to bother with the poncho. Just enough to lighten the crowds a little.

The only time I've used one was when I went to Kennedy Space Center - the skies completely opened up and poured without signs of letting up. So I put on the poncho and left, trudging through the parking lot that was covered in 6 inches of water (I think it was also high tide at the time and the parking lot couldn't empty). Luckily my luggage was accessible from inside the car and I could get a change of socks and shoes and a small towel. The rain ended about 15-20 miles away from KSC.

Many times I've found that the poncho is my anti-rain device. If I carry them all day, it doesn't rain. The day I decide it probably won't rain and leave the poncho home, it pours! LOL

On the other hand, my poncho is from the 80's, pre-AK, white with the outlines of the 3 parks (at the time) on the back. Love getting the "wow, that's a classic poncho" comment from the CM's :)

We bought a poncho for our trip and it was really helpful. For some reason, the rain would not stop for a while. But DH kept on getting wet regardless of the poncho while I stayed nice and dry.

What are you talking about??? You must have me confused with some other crazy poncho wearing fool. I hate ponchos and refuse to wear them. Except that one time Josh forced me to get one from costuming. And I only did it because he really wanted to go on Dumbo in the pouring rain.

I love you Jonnie

I don't wear ponchos unless I do my hair and there is a possibility it could get so badly ruined that I won't be able to fix it in twenty minutes in a bathroom mirror.

They are tacky, ugly things.

I take it then that you have never been poked in the face with an umbrella that was blocking the user's view? IMHO, they are dangerous to the other people trying to make their way thru the parks in the rain.
I take it you've never been repeatedly bumped and even smashed into with soaking wet ponchos who drench you, OR forced to sit on a seat after the rude poncho-wearer got off the ride before you and didn't take it off before riding, thus leaving you with a huge puddle!

If you want to ban anything, ban ponchos!
-m

ps: I have never had umbrella problems - either being poked by one, nor blocked. Ever.

we used to wear them but we just bought expensive waterproof windbreakers in Norway world showcase. I wear it all the time. It's my new favorite jacket

I suppose if it were to rain and we left them in the room we would buy ponchos though.
