I knew this game would suck away all the free time i had (the little amount that i actually get)...

...i have been digging head first into hex editing save files similiar to what was done in the first RCT...so far no big breakthrus..but i did figure out what 50% of the data "means"...muahahah

Uh...It looks like a bunch of numbers and letters to me.

Figures....

By the way...I have a favor to ask of you. Go through the code and see if you can find three new flat rides that are disabled. A rumor has been going around the internet that I haven't mentioned here about three new rides, a giant ferris wheel, a sit down restaurant complete with a chef, and an arcade.

NO ONE BELIEVE THIS, BECAUSE RIGHT NOW ITS A RUMOR!!!!!

Lets see if you can find it.:D (Don't worry, I doubt you will)

is it ok if i cheat? I was planning on decompiling the game anyway (im a total geek..i always do that...i take everything apart)...this way i'll be able to see whats what...

i did notice something intresting tho when i was hexing...lots of headroom for expansion packs (id say at leat 5 times more than the original RCT)

Thats interesting. I knew there would be expansion packs (I mean come on, he really didn't add that much to the game in terms of new rides.) He probably did that on purpose so he could have several expansion packs. Hopefully, he already has stuff out there ready to go and just needs to put on the finishing touches. Expansion pack in the next couple of months...maybe?

Anyway, supposedly, someone found in the hex code a switch that every flat ride has that acts as an enable (a value of 1) or disable (a value of 0). They claimed to be working on a trainer/patch that would enable those three rides/attractions I mentioned above. Who knows. I guess we will just have to wait and see what you find!

By the way, what program are you using to decompile the game. I have always wanted to look at the code that actually runs the game. That stuff really interests me. I'm a computer science major:hammer: ...LOL

If there is one thing the game community has learned from "the sims"..is that people WILL buy as many expansion packs no matter how much they cost...and they will do it over..and over..and over..and over...

Id be shocked if its as easy as a simple "on or off" hex edit code to get the new rides....and this is why...if they are there and "working" (properly at least)...they would have been already available. If they are "hidden"..theres good reason..and its proboly not as easy as a simple "turn me on" function.

As for what program i use...muahaha....

as you know...most games are using encrypted code (to stop ________________ like me from decompiling them)..this makes it impossible for you to use any "commercial" decompiler...however...an amigo of mine obtained the source code to a pretty decent one (i totally forgot the name) and he slapped on some extra code that makes it a decrypter (slow as hell..but hey..it works)..its far from perfect..but it worked with the original RCT as well as the sims and the E3 alpha of doom3...so yeah...who knows..imma try tommorow ;)

UPDATE....New Scenerio

Well, its not on a Tuesday, but Chris Sawyer released a new scenerio that is not one of the classics from the first RCT. Go to the scenerio page at www.rollercoastertycoon2.com and look for the scenerio Panda World. Here's the deal though, it includes a new Panda Theme that did not come with the game! You have to see it to beleive it. Its really neat! Hopefully, Chris will start adding more scenerios like this with new stuff in them. Maybe thats what he planned all along. ;) Have a good night!

Not working?

Hmmmm....Where does it mess up? Did you check to make sure it is in the right folder?

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\RollerCoaster Tycoon 2\Scenerios

Just to check. If its there, when you click on the scenerio in the game, it will pop up and say it is loading object files. That means its loading the new stuff in the scenerio. Hope this helps. I don't know any other way it could mess up.

NOW IT WORKS!

Cool, panda theme :D!!!

Gotta love the panda coaster!

I think it is so cool how the pandas' arms act as the restraining system on the coaster. That is so cool!

Can you imagine what this means? Now he can give us new scenerios with things like new flat rides, scenerios, etc. and all we have to do to get them is to download the scenerio. AWESOME!

what else is locked in that little CD?

I can sorta answer that ;)

Nothing is "locked" on the CD

however...the game code is made "open"...meaning that its a fairly easy process to add new rides and scenery to the game..simply by downloading them and putting them in an appropriate folder...in this case..it was "stuck" in with a scenario...

This is going to be the thing that TRUELY makes RCT2 a great game...

I could not agree more with you. If he keeps adding more stuff like this, it will truely be an awesome game.

UPDATE...RCT2 DEMO

Hi everyone. For those who haven't bought the game yet, a demo has been released! :D The demo contains a tutorial, a 'beginner' park (crazy castle), a 'real' park (Six Flags Belgium), and also lets you build your own Six Flags Park. Now you can play a few of the scenerios to hold yourself over until you get the game for Christmas!:D Here is the link to the file. It is a hefty 68.4 MG, so be prepared for a fairly long download. There are three mirrors to download from, so pick the link that has the lowest traffic.

RollerCoaster Tycoon II Demo

Keep checking back for all of the latest updates on RollerCoaster Tycoon 2!
