The last time I was at Disneyland, back in '05, I was severely disappointed that Haunted Mansion was closed for HMH. HMH was cute, but for someone who hardly ever gets to see DLR, it really wasn't worth it. However, DLR caters mostly to locals, so I was in the minority. Since WDW mostly caters to out-of-towners who are here on a once in a lifetime trip, I think it would be a crime to shut down Haunted Mansion for what would end up being nearly half the year, what with the time it takes to set up and take down.

Leota's Haunted Holiday

I'm all for a Christmas layout, but I was thinking something along the lines of a "Madame Leota's Haunted Holiday" which would be much more in line with the original attraction. When you board the doombuggies, atop the first staircase (before the portrait gallery) there's another Leota floating above who summons the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, then throughout the attraction there are specific vignettes set up for each ghost. The Grim Reaper would be great in the graveyard scene! "I'm your Ghost Ho Ho Host!"

Now THAT is a good idea.

I love NBC and I've seen the overlay in Disney and while it is really unique, it's appeal is mostly for the locals as it is primarily a local park, so the overlay is a welcome change up for the people going every other week. The fact the WDW caters to primarily out of staters is the main reason it will never happen at WDW. Plus the NBC overlay does take away quite a bit of the mystique of the Haunted Mansion. IMO the narration and music is way too upbeat for what the Haunted Mansion is supposed to be. I enjoy the Mansion as is and would not like to see it in WDW

I would love to see this come to WDW. Not because I'm a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan but because of the added bonus this overlay brings to the Mansion. Yearly maintenance! That is the reason why DL HM was the best HM out of all the parks. Every year the mansion would not only receive this overlay but maintenance and pluses to the original attraction. Almost every year DL's mansion would get something new like the Floating Leota ball or the new Bride. Imagine the endless possibilities for our mansion if this was to happen.

Also, if one time only guests are being cheated by having a special overlay to the mansion then we should get rid of all the Christmas decorations on Main street, or Mickey's Jingle Jungle parade, or hope WDI doesn't change TSM to match the seasons or update it with new games since all of these things change the original park experience and would certainly ruin those vacationer's experience!

I voted "yes" only because I'd love to see what it looks like. I think the more they duplicate attractions from other Disney Parks the better they get. So one at WDW's mansion might bring some high-tech thrills to the holiday.

No. No. No. Taking the Mansion down for an unnecessary rehab every year is foolish, and I know for a fact Ops would never go for it.

I'd like to see it but that would also mean that the HM would be closed every year for a certain amount of time to change it and then unchange

Thank you for saying what I always think when I hear this question. Think about the last Haunted Mansion rehab at Disney World. How long did it have to be shut down due to neglect? Now, at Disneyland, they use the 24 days of Haunted Mansion Holiday setup (based off the calendar on their website) for more than just setup. Rehabbing is going on, too. Similarly, the attraction is down for another 24 days or so (the exact amount of time isn't currently posted) for removal and MORE rehabbing. Every attraction should really go down for a time each year for maintenance, so why not make it part of an event?
My wife doesn't care for Tim Burton or "The Nightmare Before Christmas," but she loves Haunted Mansion Holiday. To hate something without giving it a chance is silly; to be angry that they've temporarily changed an attraction to fit a holiday theme seems just as silly to me. Yes, I've heard the arguments - they're coming a long way and don't get to Disney World very often, blah, blah, blah. You know, people do come from other countries to see Disneyland, too...we're not all just locals here. It's also quite interesting how southern Californians are portrayed from thread to thread. In some we're rabid purists who can't stand the idea of change and thus that's why most of our attractions are they way they were when Walt lived. In others we get bored easily and need constant change...we need Haunted Mansion Holiday and It's a Small World Holiday or we'll quit coming because there's not enough new stuff to do. The truth is, we're just like you guys. We're good with change if it's a change for the good. Haunted Mansion Holiday is an incredible temporary change to the Park (by the way, shouldn't we be getting bored of this by now, too, if the "we need constant change" theory is correct? It's been here every winter season since 2001). Space Mountain was given a pretty amazing permanent update. Meanwhile, I personally think certain other updates should have only been temporary (or not done at all). I completely dislike the current Pirates overlay and find myself rarely visiting it now.
What I'm trying to say is that Disney World should give Haunted Mansion Holiday a shot. One look at how the line more than doubles here when it's around should be incentive enough. But then, The Magic Kingdom appears to be too cheap now to even bother with the Country Bear Christmas Special, so why would they want to spend all that money on something new...especially when it would be too hard to restrict it to just those plopping down another $40 bucks for an elitist after-hours event.

I saw the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland last Christmas and loved it!!! I wouldn't want it permanently changed but it's a great thing for the holidays. I wish they would do the same thing at Disney World.

I'm sure the majority of people who voted NO would change their vote if they got to ride for HMH for themselves. Although personally i'm glad HMH isn't being cloned :)

I would also bet the majority of the people here who said they would not want to see HMH or have the mansion closed would be smart enough to book their vactions during the period of the year when this change would not effect them.

HMH works in Disneyland. The majority of their visitors are repeats/annual passholders, whereas WDW has mostly new visitors. Having HM closed for a period of time every year when not necessary does not make sense at WDW, because it will affect this first time visitors. I'm not saying it isn't a great overlay, it just doesn't make sense. Plus OPs would not want one of their main attractions closed for a month every year just for an overlay.

Heading for the great escape.
There is also the issue, in my eyes at least, that there are fewer attractions routinely open in the MK than during our first trip in 94, so to loose a major draw, as well as the increasing likelyhood of other major rides needing rehabs is not good sense. Unless of course Disney actually changes their habits and open an additional attraction.
