It's actually ridiculous that Disney won't build any new pavilions without someone else paying for them.

Disney didn't build pavilions in the first place without someone else paying for them.

Remember corporate alliances? Remember sponsors everywhere? Goes back to 1955....

That doesn't make it right. Disney is one of the biggest companies in the world and to simply not build something that I think most people would agree Epcot needs on that basis is ridiculous imo.

Getting other people to pay for the costs was one of the principle core concepts of building EVERYTHING Disney has ever done. Please do the reading on this.

Also.... The Disney Corporate Alliances has a facebook page.....?!?!

Disney exists to make money, nothing else.

If their bean counters can't make the cost/benefit analysis work, they won't do it. No matter what legions of Disney fans have to say.

Disney fans are easily distracted by nostalgia. Orange Bird, Oswald, 1982-Epcot gear aimed at 19 year olds. Cashing in on Yesterland while charging $100/day for the privilege....

#2 is a weak argument trying to throw cold water on an interesting project.

How did the Mexico pavilion ever get funded? ....

When have they ever had a robust or healthy economy!

Mexico has a well developed economy and is a major exporter.

What Mexico doesn't have is the equitable distribution of wealth needed to grow a middle class.

This image made me cringe a bit. The Cast Member parking lot at Epcot is incredibly small now, imagine what would happen by doing this!
parking lots can be moved, and in that pic wasn't reduced in size, simply moved across the street, this area could easily be doubled in size with a 1 or 2 level parking deck.

It's actually ridiculous that Disney won't build any new pavilions without someone else paying for them.
i wouldn't say its ridiculous, theres no reason why disney can't pay for the ride/attraction and restaurant portion of a pavillion while the country pays for the majority of the entertainment/tourism /store merchandising aspects

that way there would be a commitment from the host countries, but also high quality attractions, something WS has lacked.
Build another parking lot? :) Seriously, they own the whole county practically ...
agreed, parking lots are basically just placeholders for the future and are not enough of a reason to not expand on their own.

naked snow run, now that would be quite the crazy entertainment for the antarctica pavillion.

yes africa is a continent, but it was discussed to do "equitorial africa" a grouping of countries.

It is just a fact of succeeding that usually takes place. If one declares themself a seperate entity from the Union, than all of the benefits (including the military that is federally owned) go bye bye. It may not be a violent retaliation but more just a fact. You don't separate yourself and then keep the benefits. Perhaps my wording seemed definite as of course anything could happen, but its not likely to because of those reasons.

As for EPCOT, it would be amazing to see anything of a pavilion scale happen by 2017. I am not holding my breath though.

Epcot is my favorite park & I would love to see countries added. I also love Puerto Rico and think it is beautiful. I do NOT, however want them to have a pavilion in world showcase. They are part of the United States. They are a commonwealth, which is higher than just a territory. I do think they will become our 51st state at some point.... but even as it stands they are US citizens and I don't think having two US pavilions is good. Hawaii has a very different native culture from mainland US but we are not adding a Hawaiian pavilion. It's just my personal opinion but I just think it would add to ignorance. So many people don't even understand that Puerto Rico is a commonwealth.
I'd love to see new countries that would showcase more of the world though. Brazil, Peru (machine pichu), Argentina, New Zealand, Australia (the outback), United Arab Emirates (now they could afford it), Egypt (pyramids), Zimbabwe (victoria falls), Russia (Kremlin), Ireland (castles) .....just to name a few that could be cool to see!

Doesn't Mexico have a $1.927 trillion GDP, good for 10th largest in the world?

I was just trying to draw a similar analogy that the average worker in Puerto Rico's reaction to their government spending millions on a pavilion, to that of the average worker's reaction when Mexico decided to throw money at their pavilion. Over half of the population in Mexico live below a dismal poverty level. GDP doesn't cheer them up much.
